PVDB 1x15 is a workhorse amp and loud as balls. Once you change the tubes it sounds great. Got a couple of local musicians in my area that gig them regularly and have been using them for years.
I tried out one of these, and it sounds like yours. I declined to buy it, because it's just mediocre. Nothing great about it. I've got other amps that do better than it, in every mode. If I owned it, I'd only own it long enough to resell it, maybe for a small profit.
It's great for the price. I'm going to order a used one.

It’s become my main gigging amp while my 1973 fender twin reverb and Marshall jtm 45 collect dust😢
I much prefer the 1x15 compared to 2x10 version.
It’s sonically quite weird as you’ve mentioned compared to 1x and 2x 12
