Peavey Delta Blues is truly a MODERN CLASSIC!

- The All tube Peavey Delta Blues 115 holds up to any combo of any era. It sounds and feels like a vintage classic but it's actually designed in the modern era. This unit is from 2003 and it features 4 EL84 Power tubes and a 15 inch Blue Marvel Speaker. We're playing it using a 2017 Gibson Les Paul Custom, a 1969 Fender Strat, a 2011 Gibson SG Standard and two 2020 Fender Telecasters. It's recorded using a Unidyne IV 548 close mic and a Sennheiser MD421U5 room mic.
I bought mine in the mid nineties...my first tube amp. Changed the fuse once. Tubes here and there. Very reliable, great tone and I will never get rid of it. Even thought about getting another one lol. The mid boost is a secret weapon live. Feedback is easy and controllable at higher volumes. This amp is great.
If you listen without prejudice about brands, there are a world full of beautiful guitar tones that won’t ruin you. Brands like Peavey and Laney have made some amazing valve amps that fly a bit under the radar.
Mattias Söderlund definitely, they deserve much more attention and credit imo.
I've had 4 laney products: Cub 8, VC15, VC30-112 and the IRT-X. All outstanding. I still have the IRT-X and use it with my Headrush and it's fantastic and loud enough for club gigs.
Mike Austin yeah I'm very happy with my Cub12 and TI15-112 too ;-)
Spot on! These brands especially produce some of the most affordable tonally vintage correct amps!
Agree, have a 212 Lionheart that not only sounds gorgeous but looks great. Was looking for a mid-gain amp and it's perfect. Having 2 12"s pushing air fills my room.
This Delta Blues has a ton of options. I'm never without a Peavey amp and wish I would have kept all the models I've had over the years.
Hughes & Kettner also did a killer job with their amps.
Nice to have options.
I have the 210.
Its amazing.
Such a bad ass amp!!!
I snagged one of these a few years ago. The 15" speaker sounds big, and the boost sounds awesome. These amps are hidden gems. If you can find one in good shape you should definitely grab it. You won't be sorry.
Twenty years ago I walked into a music store with $600 ready to buy a Fender Blues or Hot Rod series, but played a bunch of amps and walked out with the Peavey DB210. On tone and reliability, never regretted it, all stock parts, and still my main amp. Gives me tonal versatility and a different sound than "everybody else." My only hassle through the years has been explaining it to gear snobs before they hear how it cuts through. Thanks for showing this amp's cred, Johan. 115 or 210, both great.
Thanks Jeremy!
This is my experience exactly, although I bought the PV Classic 50 410 (pretty sure the Delta Blues didn't exist yet). But also walked in with my mind made up to buy a HR Deville and walked out with a Peavey. I had the amp for about 12 years and only replaced it because I was tired of fixing broken control pots, and also explaining to people why I still used a Peavey. Ironically the same people would also ask me for tone tips because I had a great sound. The Classic 50 remains probably the best amp I've ever owned, despite the fact that I now have a 'boutique' Dr Z. All the Peavey Classics are great.
@@mistersooty I still have my classic 50 410 from the 90's and I'll never get rid of it, fantastic sounding amp with the right tubes rolled in. Also, I can't lift it anymore, lol 😂 I have an original silverface Vibrolux and a Jackson Ampworks Newcastle 30 head and box but the Peavey more than holds its own to this day 😁👍🏼
I took the 'Delta Blues' off the front the moment I got it home. I got inquiries every time I played out.
At 64 yrs , I now can't gig with my tube amps (too heavy). I Take a vox valtronix and marshall code (modeler amps light weight) and Mike them. Not the same experience but, much healthier for sure. God bless one and all. Rock n Roll baby!
Owned and used a Delta Blues for years. Very indestructible amp, good bang for the buck, and sounded great. I've since moved on to a lot of others but still miss it sometimes.
Man, what a tone... the first riff Simon plays on the Les Paul is amazing.
Thanks Patrik!
You mean amazing for a guy that designed Volvos!😀😀😀
Man that thing sounds UNREAL!
Thanks, glad to hear that!
Funny seeing you here haha. I love the channel!!
One of my favorite modern amps in general. It's one of the only that has an attitude or vibe like picking up a vintage tweed or something with a story to tell. And of course sounds just phenomenal. Great for blues obviously but really nails a Skynyrd tone too
I love mine, from tango to punkrock, everything sounds great!
This amp is like a perfect blend of an early Marshall Plexi, Vox AC, and a Fender Tweed (bigger than a Champ, but smaller than a Bassman)
DimiLeventis while your of course right with your great tone description, probably almost every other amp also lies between a Fender Champ and a Bassman size wise.
I mean the champ is the smallest and the Bassman is the absolutely biggest of the tweed range.
It takes the BEST of all the other legendary amp sound footprints!
I love mine. It also gives some great clean sounds and switch channels and right into gritty blues sounds then turn the gain up and instantly rockin.
I feel like Keith would approve of the tones in this video.
Thanks Robert! :-)
I love that you unearth all these sonic gems, disregarding labels. Great channel! The only gear channel I subscribe to. 🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘
Thanks Mikel, that’s great to hear!
Nice video I just bought back Peavey classic 20 i just the best
And for me i have an appartement the wall are tine like paper so IT have headphone out ,the sound is si good ,!
Nice vidéo Johan every nuances of the tone that can be done by this Peavey with a good
Guitar players
Great demonstrations, well done! I bought a 2001 Peavey Classic 30, brand spanking new, and still love that 4-EL84 sound....with Telecaster, Stratocaster, and Les Paul. Have never had the opportunity to actually try a Delta Blues, so this is a fine education.
Oh my god!!! I LOVE THE PEAVEY SOUND!!! I've got a Peavey Classic 20 combo and I love it! ❤️❤️❤️❤️
Thanks Johan! 👏👏👏👍👍👍👍❤️❤️❤️
Just bought one of these. You're getting spectacular tones from it. Looking forward to spending time with mine. Great demo.👍
What a great video ! Listen to the guitar playing and be able to look out your window at the same time . Love it !
At one of the local blues bars I used to frequent on open mic night, they had this as the house amp. Always enjoyed plugging my R9 in to it. Great sounding amp- thanks Johan!
Thank you!
ALL the rad tones are in that thing and you boys dragged ’em all out of there in this video. Thank you 🙏🏼
The Les Paul sounds fantastic. Thanks!
Thanks Pete!
Haven't made me run straight to Reverb lately, but this amp is awesome! Thanks Johan! Glad to make it to a premier again!
Glad to have you here Andy, Cheers!
Love me some Peavey Classic series amps! Had the 2x10 model of this amp, loved it!
Peavey amps are so under rated. This video is just yet another classic example of that. 4 classic guitars all sound amazing. Great demo guys :-)
Thanks man, glad you like it!
The best combo amp.....Ty Bro
I wanted to update my comment here in that I found a pristine PVDB here locally and traded for it and man I'm glad I did. None of that hum or fizz and its got all of that juicy tone. The amp is definitely a monster and it sounds great! Diming the master and turning up the preamp gain to about 11 oclock is just a killer blues tone and smokes!
Beautiful sounds! Great tone and playing! Nice amp. Cheers!
Wonderfull tones matches perfect with your playing, both of you.
Thanks, great to hear that!
One of the best amps ever made!
sounds good I like this Peavey Delta Blues Modern classic
This tone is freaking epic. I just pulled the trigger on one. Mine is 2014 with the Blue Marvel, I heard the specs are nearly identical. Hoping the tone gets in the ballpark of this brilliance.
Had one of these and played the heck out of it until it dies, Great all-around grab n' go amp like the smaller Classic 30.
Great video. I can't fault any of the tones from all the guitars here. I am lucky enough to have a Peavey Delta Blues (15 inch) and I knew it was a special amp when I plugged a guitar into it. I love that it works with an SG as that's my focus atm. Alot of demos use FX etc and you can't really hear what's going on. This is "guitar into amp" - awesome.
Well done Johan and Simon! Thanks for including the Tele!
Great Amp! Be Well All!
Thanks Steven! Cheers!
Just ordered one of these. Thanks for the inspiration to spend money. :)
Have a 2005 Peavey DB 115 that I bought used at a Guitar Center in 2007. Replaced the Blue Marvel with an Eminence Legend and never looked back. Never stopped playing it. Great plug n' play amp!
Gotta love that 15 inch speaker, fat and sassy! Great amp, Fender scooped tone, with Vox chime, good combo.
Finally!! I was going to write to you and tell you to do a video on the delta blues. I have been using this amp (2x10) for ten years. A few years ago I couldnt even sell it for $280. I wouldnt even get rid of it for $600 if someone offered it to me.
Its not the most versatile amp in the world but what it does it does the best and Its one of the biggest bangs for the buck for around $350 used. Thanks!
I bought one used at guitar center in Houston for $275 3 years ago, sounds amazing
That Gibson SG is fiiiiiiiiiiine... 🤤
Also, unreal playing all around! 🙌
Thanks Sean, I’m glad to hear that!
Great amp, had mine for well over 10 years now! I swap between the 15in and a 1950s 12in Jensen.
Very cool I have a PV classic 4/10 cab that is great
Love the tones you and Simon got out of this underrated amp. Great cleans and crunch, with a lot of gain on tap too. I've had a 210 version for years that's a really versatile all-around amp (hope you can demo one someday), but I might have to check out the 115 too based on this video.
Thanks Marcel!
I had one of these for a while then sold it and got an EHX Mig 50. I got it used for real cheap and it sounded pretty good. I should have kept it and still got the Mig 50. Lesson learned. Can’t have too many amps.
DAMN thats an amazing tone. That junior in the background just teasing us D: wish you played it!
wow I thought you'd be over a million subs by now!! you rock
Something about a guitar through a 15 always hooks me. Great sounds. (My primary cab is a Supro Black Magic 15, btw).
I got a Traynor 2x15 cab with a Traynor head, and play a Baritone through it. Anyone who plays heavy music with dropped tuned guitars NEEDS to try an amp with a 15" speaker. Straight up will change your life
FINALLY...Johan raves about an amp I already have, so I don't have to worry about the prices going up overnight and not being able to find one! :)
;-) Cheers my friend
Peavey! Who knew?! 😉 Great demo and sweet Ace riffs!
Thanks Scott, glad to hear that!
I'd imagine you could get it to sound even better with the right speaker swap. My personal favorite 15" is the Emi Big Ben. I have two - one in my '67 Gemini II and one in my Traynor YBA-4. Two drastically different amps (aside from both being 1x15 combos) and it sounds fantastic in both of them.
Also, just wanted to mention Simon's playing again. He absolutely scorched on this demo!
Thanks, he did indeed! Cheers!
Another great video! That can be had from the used market at around $300 bucks ! I think I’ll dig up one for myself now 🤗
Great demo, as usual you two manage to show a wide spectrum of tones and sounds. I own one of these and must say it’s always almost irritating how good it sounds. Especially compared to some of my more expensive vintage amps. I think it’s combination of large headroom and big speaker that makes it feel and sound so clear yet powerful.
I experimented with ABY splitting the signal into two amps: clean Delta Blues and overdriven 80’s Fender Super Champ. Even with the 18W Super Champ on full overdrive it’s 10” Celestion Alnico Gold barely cut through the Peavey’s clean channel set to 3. Size matters...
Thanks David!
Thanks, guys. Great little amp with a big tone for months. Wonder how it sounds with the Fullback. Simon really kills it this time, especially in the second half IMO.
Those amps are amazing. I used one as my primary amp for a few years (and before that a PV Classic 50). Very underrated amps. And they stay clean pretty loud on the clean channel. The reverb is so-so and I never used the dirty channel, but as a cheap, excellent gigging amp, they're everything you need. The woman I sold it to has used it as her #1 for her entire decade+ long career as a local hero singer/songwriter/loud rock rhythm guitar player.
Y'all are getting a lot out of it! I used it mostly for clean Strat sounds or dirty sounds with pedals.
Josh Feierman Classic 50 is a great amp!
@@nathanmuniz3495 I like the DB even better, but they're both great.
That first tone was spot on with Black Sabbath tone.
Thanks, great to hear that!
I just discovered Peavey’s Delta and Classic amps, and they are amazing. Great clean and dirty with an excellent reverb circuit (by far, the best solid state reverb I’ve heard). I picked up a used made in USA Classic 30 for $300 and love it. I could buy 6 of them for the cost of a used Dr. Z Maz18!
Classic has a solid state reverb? Because I have a Delta Blues 115, and it's got a spring reverb onboard.
@@familiarpurrson8744 The drive and recovery circuits might be solid state and not tube-driven, there are alot of older solid state amps with spring reverb too
Even though I had my marshall at home , when I'd get off the bus in high school , I'd always ended up at the nearby mall (square one in mississauga ontario) and played the classic 30 and this delay blues brother ... always had problem preferring one to the other .... the 15 inch sound is something else
The PVDB is a sensational amp along with the C302x12 and the C20HD! (Which I own! ) It's a seriously GOOD sounding amp! Only thing that lets it down is the emulated outs and the reverb! Apart from that, its got everything you could want on a modern, vintage voiced amp! 2 ch, high headroom clean, + OD, fx loop with ch switching and loop on/off or clean mid boost, just great for solos on either channel!
THIS will ROCK! \m/
Cheers DMS!
@@JohanSegeborn Rock on! \m/
Wait... I just realized that he doesn't have more than 100k subscribers! Been watching this channel for a long time because the variety of amps and killers tones. Just assumed he was was way higher.
Regardless, this amp has tons to offer and I'm a huge fan of Peavey and have always had at least one in the room.
But nothing sounds better than his Laney Supergroup through the Hiwatt, that is now my dream rig. The tone with single coils is so amazing.
Hi, Johan!
Nice amp - all the effects are great. Very strong sound. The best were LP and Telecaster! C.U.
Z.
Thanks man, see you!
Great video as always! I'd love to see what settings you guys use on these amp videos. You have a good ear for dialing these in.
Thanks Joe! Here We mostly used the clean channel dimed with the bass rolled off to about 2-3
I have the same amp 2003 US made.. never gonna let it go.
Everyone wants one!
I've heard one of these before. It's a great sounding amp. You guys once again showed off what it can do. Sounding great as usual. God bless and rock on!
Thanks brother!
had one 20 years ago as a test.. it sounded great.. very loud very very loud
I first listen to the studio recording of "cold gin" from the first album and then "Alive" version, where we know Eddie Cramer dubbed the guitars. After listening to Alive" "studio dubbing", I want to compliment you, Johan and Simon too on the tone.
I will also make sense that a tweed kind of combo was available to Ace at that time in 1975 at Record Plant.
God weekend Johan
Cheers Steffen, Trevlig helg!
Strat sounds awesome through that.
Thanks Thom!
Some decent keef tones in that thing too.
these are decent amps, I have a mid 90s tweed Classic 30, which is almost the same amp but has a 12" Blue Marvel speaker. My amp sounds good when the mid boost button is off. Can hear that "Cold Gin" tone! The 15" gives it a great sound, I like how the reverb sounds on this one too. Great playing by you and Simon. Always great content! Stay safe, Johan!
Thanks Mark! Glad you like it!
If I could get mine to sound that good.
Maybe I need to isolate it for a while. I run it along with a Peavey Classic 4x10. My neighbors seem to like it.......
The Grant Henry Stemage tone. Metroid Metal :) For those who are interested the Delta Blues has enough gain to yield a very unique sounding high gain metal tone without a the assistance of a Tube Screamer/Overdrive boosting it or even high output pickups.
Now my head is melted. Looking at one of these amps or a blues junior . This looks to be exceptional value and a little more watts
Good ear on the Cold Gin comparison. I read that on the first Kiss album, Ace used a cranked tweed amp. At the time Plexis and other Marshalls were basically trying to be giant tweed amps, so this was probably a more manageable way to get the sound in the studio.
J.C. that’s fantastic tone
Thanks!
Damm Johan what a tone monster I’m glad you have been touched by peavey you should do the JSX head or combo keep the videos coming.
Thanks Ricky, I’m gonna do the JSX first chance I get!
Peavey Bravo's from the early 1990 and peavey valve king 50-100 Watts ( I got both) and those are great freaking amplifiers !
I just ordered one of these, and I'll be experimenting with the Electro Voice SRO 15. Wish me luck!
Any thoughts on the SRO?
Delta Blues sales are going to see a spike this month! I had a Peavey Classic 30 and loved it.
:-)
That LPC tho! Kaaaaa Runch!
All of the guitars sounded really good - each one's unique tone characteristics came out nicely. I wonder how the amp would sound in a band situation.
That reminds me - some day you and Simon should do some simultaneous playing - would be great to see you guys each pick out a favorite guitar and amp and jam.
How great my Peavey Delta Blues sounds you asked....well.....it sounds so good that I sold my Fender Hot Rod Deluxe IV and my Blackstar HT Club 50.
Hey Johan,
Love your videos man !
Would you recommend this amp as a clean pedal platform that has headroom to contrast a Marshall JCM800 in recordings ?
Have you played the peavey delta blues 210? Thoughts? Love the guitar playing and the tones on this channel, easily one of the best channels to hear and learn about great amps
Great review of an underrated amp! Please check out the many videos of Darrel Higham playing his Peavey Delta Blues 1x15". He gets amazing tone while playing rockabilly with big hollow body guitars.
I had one once upon a time... and... it also... can give You beautifull CLEAN tones :) but You guys are Mostly digging his dirt here :)
If you ever get a chance to do the Classic 30 again but with different cabs that would be cool. Top class stuff as always cheers.
Thanks Peter! We’re actually gonna do a Classic 50 head through a vintage Marshall cab next week. We loved that tone when we tried it. Cheers
Johan Segeborn Sweet. My wife will kill me if I get a 412 cab but maybe the video will help to convince her.
Sounds like New Orleans on a balmy hurricane fueled night.
I had one I bought used from Guitar center but had this intense fizz when the volume was up even after changing tubes. It sounded great but I didn’t want to drop the money to fix it as it was probably something wrong on the board. It did sound amazing though and I might get another one day.
Badass
I used to have one of these. I tested it out against the classic 30, and bought the delta blues. Very cool sounding amp. Why did I ever get rid of it? I want it back.
Now imagine how good this would sound on the newer Delta blues 1x15 that has the epic Celestion. Got mine. It's a keeper.
I've swapped out Blue Marvels (for Celestion, Weber, EV, etc.) many times, but end up putting the Blue Marvel back in. I've read that Eminence makes them and they are matched just for the Peavey amp they're used in.
@@songboy765 the Celestion Fullback is the best guitar speaker on the market since the early 70's celestion speakers which could never be replicated because the Celestion factory with the original blueprints burned down. Just ask the legendary Johan Sageborn.
I think I will buy one of these in the morning. I’m on the road working and I have a good guitar for my days off. Unfortunately I’m plugging into into a Katanna 50. I mean I think I might hate it. So I have a chance to get one of these for a good price. I think I’ll get it.
Such a great playing guys! Is the classic 30 the same to the delta blues that you demo in another video?? (apart from the speaker and the tremolo). Do you know if the circuit is identical? I find that my delta blues lacks saturation in the crunch channel compared to the classic 30. Is delta blues supposed to be lower gain on the crunch channel or is there something wrong with my amp? Thanks!
Deep and open sound. I think the 115 is a specially great amp choise for someone who is in a band with two guitarists, when you want a contrasting sound that does not clash with the other guitarist with a 1 or 2x12" combo.. the 115 will stay tonally on top and bottom, while the 12" will be in the middle. Discuss?
Thanks Jesse, yeah it would mix well with a 12 inch rig
Requesting a demo of an Epiphone Blues Custom 30...
This was a wonderful demo of a great modern classic... I believe there was
also a 2x 10" version and some of them go back to being dedicated accordion amps
Cheers mates
Thanks Jonny, we’ll do the Blues Custom first chance we get! Cheers!
@@JohanSegeborn Thanx Johan... I'd could dig your take on it plus I love the treatment you do with amps... It's like you're reading my mind... "What do the tubes look like , Oh what does the back with the speaker showin- oh yeah ...I wonder what the circuit looks li- oh yeah" yeah mang, you're amazing
There's one in the pawn shop down the road here... $200.
I started listening to the demo with low expectations, but quickly became floored and impressed. That amp sounds great, it's a shame that the company itself has a bad image and reputation. Great demo.
Thanks, I’m a Peavey fan though! Cheers!
Hartley Peavey never cared about “mojo” and emulating vintage stuff. He was worried about well-engineered gear that would work. I still see tons of these combos on gigs everywhere - they cut through, sound great, and seem to really hold up to gigging for years and years.
Hi Johan, you're are right, the Peavey is a modern classic, as much as you and Simon are 😀. And it was cheap until now. See ya tomorrow. Cheers.
Thanks my friend, Cheers!
@@MrMoneyHelper i paid $400 for my used Delta Blues like 7 or 8 years ago. brand new they are $800. i would call that pretty damn cheap in a world where flagship fenders go for over $1k and flagship marshalls go for over $2k
Must be a good amp to preserve the character of the different guitars so well
Yeah, it brings out their characters well
Good amps. Essentially a Classic 30 with the bigger speaker. My Brother owned one for many years. That 15" yanks out some of the middy/compressed nature you get with the 12, and makes it sound a bit more Marshally.
