I still remember that draft. Giannis really did deserve to be where he was drafted since he was just raw potential at that point. I did believe he was going to become something eventually, but I had a very unpopular (or at least, uncared for) opinion. His first years spent outside of the spotlight did wonders for him to develop that raw talent in who he istoday.
Ah yes, the draft of role players, specialists, and Giannis. Say what you want about the lack of superstar names here, but most of the players in this draft became key depth pieces in their primes. Some like Olynyk, Gobert, McCollum, and KCP are still finding gainful employment to this day.

As much as we make fun of Bennett's career, I think he's not the biggest bust in NBA history. This draft class is just weak (weakest in my opinion); no clear #1 pick and you can get a role player at best with the exception of Jauniss and 2023 World Cup MVP Schrodër.

Gobert's latest contract k*ll*d his career tbh.. a lot of people hated it(or just got jealous). the trade to Minnesota also was criticized because of that contract. if he got a modest contract probably he wouldn't be criticized today.. but he is definitely one of the best European players in the NBA right now.

It always amazes me that more teams don't trade their top 5 pick for a more proven veterans. The draft is such a gamble. Even when a player is good he still may not be a good fit for your team.
Because the teams who are on the draft are often bottom tier teams, why would they trade for veterans who won't get them to the players for young players that could get get them to the playoffs in the future

Please stop comflating NBA salaries to that of an average person. Yes, 40 million or something that an NBA journeyman would accrue in his career is a big number for the average guy, but comparing that bag to other players drafted in the same spot it ain't much. Saying that Anthony Bennett earned more than the average Joe is a moot point if other number 1 overall picks get hundreds of millions.
