I served in the Navy (1990-1998), and I remember one of the aircraft on display by the front gate of Naval Air Station Oceana, Virginia, was an early AD-1 model of the Skyraider. I am not sure if that airplane is still there, but it would be nice to see it restored. It used the same Curtiss-Wright R-3350 powerplant, which was also used on the famous Boeing B-29 Superfortress four engine bomber used in the south Pacific during World War II and the Korean conflict.

Hi Howard, thank you for your service. This Skyraider is that very plane from Naval Air Station Oceana! We acquired this Skyraider in 2014 from the National Museum of the US Marine Corps in 2014, and have been working ever since to restore it to this condition. If you'd like to learn more, you can check out this video about the restoration process. ua-cam.com/video/EzqSKhRN23E/v-deo.html
