Aircraft of the Month: F11F Tiger

- The Grumman F11F Tiger was a supersonic carrier based fighter developed in the 1950s. Only 201 of these aircrafts were built between 1954 and 1958 and they were flown from Intrepid in 1959 and 1960. Though the Tiger's lifespan as a fighter was brief, they were eventually were used in the Navy's flight demonstration team, AKA the Blue Angels. I'm here because I was curious abour Grumman's history. In my head I was confusing the F11F Tiger with Northrop's F5 Tiger and wondered what the differences were.

And its always only for the U.S. aircraft. Its almost like U.S. players like to research stuff more then others.
Jakob C. Then again, there is usually more information available to the majority of War Thunder players for U.S. Aircraft, which are much more declassified, then many of the other nation’s aircraft. The same thing tends to happen with tanks and helicopters too.

The upgraded F11F-1F which was rejected, used the GE J-79 in place of the Wright J-65 and exceeded Mach 2 well before the F-4 and F-8 did.

Had the leisure of flying the F-11 in the last phase of my flight training in Kingsville, TX. Great plane to fly. Ingested a bird in the right engine intake during touch and go landings. Lost partial power but was able to bring it around for landing whereupon the engine flamed out during rollout. Got my wings 4 flights later when completing flight training. Ahh, the good old days!!!

One interesting feature of the Blue Angels F-11s was their ability to discharge red & blue colored water out of their wingtip fuel dump vents. Not sure where the water was stored, though. Had to have been in one of the fuselage tanks, as the wings were dry.

@@ryanweintraub9448 Still, that just means it will likely end up at 9.3/9.7 RB, so will only really be topped by the Lightning in terms of speed in the sub-top-tier BR bracket (which cant face 10.3s), so its going to perform well. The 20mms are already in-game on the F3H-2 Demon, and perform quite well.

Was this the gate guard at Lakehurst? That disappeared a few years ago and was replaced by a very dull grey F/A 18.
I visited the museum back in the mid 80's. While it is an impressive museum, my biggest concern is having all those planes on the flight deck. The NYC weather is going to slowly dissolve them.
