It's pretty slick, but it caused a myriad of problems feeding the engine enough air to stay lit beyond a certain altitude and speed. They definitely learned from it and built the phantom, another beautiful aircraft.
Honestly I'm surprised this wasn't added before the f4 phantom was but then again there are things that should have also been added before the phantom for all nations in the game
@@steakinbacon8593 oh absolutely. _Looks at B-26 Marauder_ Seriously there were only like 500 F3H build. Meanwhile there were over 5000 B-26 Marauders build between 1941 to 1945. The US air tree realy needs it. Since the US only has slow bombers(with the exception of the B-34) they extremely suffer when it comes to bombers. Having bombers in your team alone is already reguarded as resulting in defeat. The B-26 marauder would be capable of easly outrunning most german fighters just like the ME 264 and JU 288 do right now.
@@jakobc.2558 - This just goes to show that video games aren't always realistic. The B-26, while fast, could not outrun German fighter aircraft in the real world. The B-26A, the fastest of the Marauders, was limited to about 300 MPH. A Bf 109E was at least 50 MPH faster.
As a 'Plane Captain", USAF called us Crew Chiefs, I was in VF-193 from 1958 through 1960. We made two Pacific deployments aboard the Bon Homme Richard. First deployment of 9 months, home for 4 months and another deployment in the Fall of 1959 that lasted 6 months. Lots of stories about the 'Bonnie Dick' and our Demons.
Another victim of the POS Westinghouse J-40. Douglas engineer Ed Heinemann was wise enough when designing the F4D-1 to allow alternate powerplants including the J-57. Had the Demon airframe been able to accept that engine, it could have been a winner.
My understanding is that the Demon was actually despised by it's pilots due to the extreme lack of thrust from the J71. Both politicians and pilots alike referred to it as a "pilot killer", especially on CAT launches. Please let me know if this is a wrong assessment. In any case, I love how the Demon looks though and it's too bad it was not re-engined and with a more powerful turbo jet.
I read that one was tested with a J-79 very late in its career, and that the speed almost doubled, but it turned out to be one of those "too little, too late" kind of things.
The pilots said they wished it had a bit more thrust, that is not the same as "despising" it. Politicians will call anything a "Pilot Killer" or "Widowmaker" if there is the slightest excuse for it, since it sounds snappy and gets publicity and lets them posture as the savior of citizens and brave pilots. Much like they attacked the F-104. It gets them votes, and history usually takes their cues from the politicians, not the regular people.
@@justforever96 The f104 had some serious issues though, and the favored competitor s were allegedly pushed out by the lockheed bribery scandals in germany and japan.
You mean like it says right in the video? Wow, how did you figure that out?! It's built by the same company and is considered a direct predecessor, duh. Although the only real similarity between them is the raised tail with the exhaust right underneath.
Give the video editor and cinematographer a raise!
Love the inlet design on this plane

Finally I've been looking for a history video about the f3h demon thanks!
Thanks, Leonard Maltin
Any one get this because of war thunder??
Thanks for this 👍✈️
I like the looks of the Demon. The F-11 Tiger was the sleekest Navy plane of the '50s

I was a PC on the F. 3h. in VF41 in1959 out AMH school as a AMH An my AC was 100

You mean the F4 is an enlarged demon
I always wondered why the front landing gear was so long.
I think it is bc the hook can easyly catch the line on the carrier
Higher rate of descent for carrier landings
It increase the angle of attack for the wing, providing more lift to counter short flight decks or underpowered engines.
This reminded me of the schimitar
Is that Shaun Connery's favourite aircraft
