So great, this developer, Mathijs, is my neighbor and a very nice guy. He equipped my studio with lots of great gear :) and this plugin is definitely worth it.
@@kiosko33hz Yes I think so, I can ask him if you want. They have a special lab for maintenance and they make hardware gear on demand. For my studio, he made a custom made volume controller for my 9.1 Speaker set-up to control all 10 speakers at the same time and to calibrate each speaker individually in order to make auro3D and dolby atmos mixes and to switch easily to stereo-setup for regular stereo mixes.
@@artlucas2546 man that sounds insanely awesome!!! Do you have any music online you can link me to? Would love to hear it.The only thing I've ever seen that comes anywhere close to what you described is the KNAS Quad mixer, but that's just a quadrophonic mixer with cv controlable VCAs and a joystick controller.
@@davegraham716 it is not a mixer but a volume control unit I meant, comparable with Focusrite RedNet R1, just to control all 10 speakers at the same time and calibrate them separately. For the mixing, I use PT Ultimate with Auro-3D plugins to position the sounds. Nuendo from Steinberg is also very suitable as DAW and they have their own 3D plugins. I do not have music on line yet, but I can send you a private link with a track in 5.1.4 format.
This was an eyes opener on me. because Iwas having years trying to understand how people like Zedd, Diplo, Justin Beiber and Tainy get his record so loud and Big in the stereo Field. I hear it and I recognize the sound inmidiatly. Thanks for this gem!
When you flip the phase on the focus ... man that sounds so good! The wide out of place sides you created just flip back behind the original sides as a negative impression on the sound, giving that V shaped depth to the stereo field! As opposed to just a wide layer at the front. That's really smart of Mr. Lane to add that feature, and a really neat trick for stereo widening!
Man I’ve gotten so much knowledge from you, I’m forever grateful. I literally wouldn’t be the engineer I am today if it weren’t for you and your channel. So many of my favorite plugins and techniques were learned directly and only from you. David thank you so much
Lol I bought this yesterday, off your recommendation and used your code. I’d just finished a master but decided to revise with this added in the chain. Client texted me back in amazement “Listening in the car. It feels like I’m surrounded. It’s so soothing! What did you do?”
Just started using DrMS for Vocals and i have to say the results are much better than anything i used before... So much more natural sounding than Doubler or similar stuff. I fucking love it 😁
Great tip and great plugin! Just downloaded the demo and even tho I love BX plugins it blew their stereo width out of the water. It also won over my favourite Ozone Imager Wow this is a secret weapon!!!
OMG! 1 minute into the demo and I'm like WTF?! Where has this thing been all my life and how come everyone on the planet is not talking about it?! Thank you brother. I owe you one. ✌🏼❤️
@ 23:46 "Summertime" - on cambridge multitracks! HAHA Ive heard this one many times as students often get this as a project to mix! Love the in depth look at DR MS Ive used it for a few years now its a wonderful piece of software!
Oh man, i've been waiting a few years for you to do a deep dive with this plugin. I know i say this a lot but i think THIS is now my favourite video you've done. I've owned this plugin for years but sort of forgot about it to be honest! But you enthusiasm for it is so infectious, i'm definitely gonna put this thing through its paces again. Again, really appreciate the deeper/advanced videos like these. Not many channels do it. Peace
I don't know what that zoom knob actually does but in headphones, just a few % is mind blowing. It's something I don't think I've heard before. Not from a single plugin let alone a single knob
Pretty sold on this one! Thanks for sharing the sauce. I always struggle with imaging plugins introducing phasey degradation to the signal. This one really sounds natural.
Man, this is the first time I've seen one of your vids. You really have a gift for explaining these fairly complex concepts. I honestly know very little of manipulating the strereo fiield but I still followed along and understood pretty much everything you covered. Well done! Subscriber!
Ha, I'm always playing "catch-up" on your videos and life in general. I love, love, love your reviews and can't believe I missed this plug! Hope life with Bella Kelly is fantastic!! Best Wishes for you both!!
Finally tried this thing out just now, and OH MY GOD... I'm still too much of a noob to pretend that I know what I'm doing with it, but your demos here don't even come close to doing this thing justice -- probably my new favorite plugin EVER.
Love this plugin so much! Sometimes a bit tricky to set up but how it can affect your mix, it is amazing! There is no other plugin that has such amazing controls of your mix or track! Thanks so the in depth.
This is fantastic! I like the fact that you can create a stereo track from a mono track by bringing the center energy to the sides! I can see how easy it is to mess up a mix with this tool if you do not perfectly master its usage... Definitely a lot of experience is needed! Thanks for this awesome presentation! 💯🙏
You're so right ... I destroyed so many of my mixes with additional widening in mastering phase ... I mix outside computer (the spartan way:), only mastering on comp.) on Korg Kronos 2 which has milidelay and many other tools you can put on your whole mix ... But this is a must, if you're mixing on a computer DAW. People don't understand that this effect can also ruin your "density" of the mix, so you have to know which song needs it; milidelay excluded - it is a must on almost every mix. Great videos by the way.
🤯 this plugin is sick! I went through many stereo processors and I have my favourites, but this one it's another level 😍 Thank you - absolutely amazing ❤️

Hi David. What`s the difference between this plugin vs standard stereo wideners? As we all know typical stereo wideners are introducing phase issues especially used in mastering. It`s a big no for sure. Does this plugin behave differently? Does it not create any phase issues while mastering? I mean generally speaking using stereo processors in mastering is not a good idea? Is this plugin different? Thank you.
All the time, when you were showing the parameters, I was wondering: "what would happend if you put it on a mono track, like a bass guitar for example, that could be really cool..." And at the end, I wasn't disappointed 😄 I like the developers that are actually trying to invent something, not just make a 100th emulation of a ssl bus compressor...
Never played around with DrMS since I have a bunch of other stereo field editor tools (e.g. Fielder Audio Stage, Nugen Audio Stereoizer, Melda MStereoGenerator, MStereoProcessor, etc)...but this was a great review and makes me feel like it wouldn't be redundant to have in the toolbox. The Field section in particular and the level in control in the Focus section are both really cool. Could be useful in parallel as well for subtle enhancement. Great work. I hear Matthew Lane's SPACECRAFT hardware m/s processor is amazing.
There's so many examples of "Woody Brown" type demos (.. that's with, that's without 🤣) this was definitely not one of those! I listen on decent speakers and the difference was a bit of a revelation even with the stripped back Stereo Delta plugin! I'm downloading the demos as I type. Thanks for the heads-up! 🙏👏🎵 🎶
Ok so question. When using DrMS on a full mix context, what are you listening for when you're cycling through the different delay times in the Focus section? For the transients to be as clean as possible? For there to be as less artefacts as possible? For a certain EQ shape? I find that when i cycle through the different delay times that to my ear it just sounds "different" rather than better or worse. How can i be more certain/decisive with this? What do i specifically listen/aim for? Thanks!!
All of the above 😄 and more. Meaning those are all things you listen to, but the main thing is the stereo fiele, you want wide (or not, depending on what the track needs) but balanced (L/R) no weird things happening to the mid channel, no transients smearing (altho to some extent it's gonna happen at certain settings) but let me be clear on this: I don't use it on a full mix. Mastering? Yes (not my mixes) but this - for me - it is not to be used on a full mix. Groups, single tracks sure.
This great... Btw the levisyll again audio you worked on sounds so great.. dope artiste.. huge fan already... I can't find his songs anywhere online tho.. is the song out
Just coming back, after your second video I watched I subbed, just blown away by your level of attention to teaching and sharing knowledge. Then of course I had to become a member. I’m finally grasping Mixing and hopefully I can pick up on a little mastering too. Thank you so much and I look forward to future videos!
Wow, that's truly amazing. I know it's possible to achieve the same results with other methods, but it just seems like it's trivial with this plugin. Thanks!
Instead of using this on the masters, I use JST Side Widener subtley throughout my mixdowns to get this same effect (no phase issues, mono compatibility stays completely intact). Cool to know theres a tool I can use on my "master only" clients to get a similar effect!
This plugin is the greatest stereo repair tool that exists on this planet!! Love!!! :)
