Yeah, even Splashdown used to be good in Salmon Run.
Specials are really a mixed bag in salmon run. Ever Booya bombs aren’t really safe to use sometimes, I feel like specials need to be reworked in that mode.
the fact that the brella shield can do that when it itself is also broken is just sad

I can't help but adore how this reefslider montage also sometimes doubles as a montage of splatoon being a 'functional' online game.
Yeah 1/3 of the clips was showing the special is best then the rest were showing how bad the lag is
I remember the instant the Kracken was announced to return there was a greyed image of the reefslider posted on the twitter thread, and I genuinely understood it.
The ideal scenario for reef slider is for opponents to be trapped in a spot where it can guarantee a free kill. The fact that the explosion is so unreliable even in those situations makes it so bad
This was the issue with Splatoon 1, nothing could counter a special as they were too overpowering and In Splatoon 2 where you can be easily overwhelmed if it isnt a team effort. Splatoon 3 makes Specials vulnerable while still giving a person the upper hand.

yea, the amount of times in this video where (imo atleast) the people were OBVIOUSLY in the explosion radius and didnt die is ridiculous
imo the invincibility frames was pretty lazy way to buff this thing. they could have just given it less endlag or just made it travel faster or just a flat out larger lethal radius smh. with kraken coming out you might as well give jt all 3 of those things at this point LOL
Or just made you straight up invincible while on the reef slider- they did the same thing with Kraken and just imagine the less problems there will be (or at least make the shield stronger so they can’t splat you as easily LOL

Rework idea: Keep the main functionality the same, fix the buggy hotboxes, and add a new functionality. When the Reef Slider explodes, it'll kick up this "ink dust" cloud which boosts the run speed of teammates and clouds the vision of enemies. It won't have a toxic mist effect for anyone wondering. This is something purely meant for cover and mobility. The invincibility frames when the special ends will also be increased, probably to the point where you'd still be invincible for a second after you take control back. This idea was inspired by two things. Firstly, it is inspired by how motorbikes in media do cool stuff while drifting which usually involves kicking up a cloud of dust. The second thing is to give more credence to the whole spy and stealth idea Nintendo is trying to go for, especially with the Undercover Brella.
Cool idea. Speaking of clouding the vision of enemies, I find it funny that Point Sensors right in front of me (in some cases) harass my vision better than Toxic Mist. Also, while I love the idea of Undercover Brella getting some love, I don’t think the same spy aesthetic would work for something like Tetra Dualies, simply because Tetra Dualies usually are right in your face. Also also, what Undercover Brella REALLY needs is a broken kit, like, I don’t know, give it a Crab Tank and a lethal bomb or something. But as said, really cool idea.
This special makes ultra stamp look consistent wow

As someone who uses weapons with stamp and reef (splatana and tetra) , i can confirm that ultra stamp is more consistant than the god forsaken reef
When stamp works, its unbelievably satisfying and so fun to use
When reef works, it’s a single explosion
The brella interaction is hilarious, but to be fair, you could make a similar montage of it looking really good.
I didn't even know there was a glitch where the reefslider would not hit people in it's (usual) lethal radius.
That is just absolutely ridiculous.

Unfortunately, it seems Reefslider is cursed with the same fate as Splashdown. The way I see it, Reefslider is carrying its users to a swift death, and Splashdown’s legacy afloat till the bittersweet end. Hopefully Kraken can pick up some slack.

Kraken being announced next season makes me really wish they delayed making dapple dualies nouveau’s kit so it could have a chance of getting kraken, though the fact that they only gave it reefslider because it’s a callback to clear dapples, it probably still would’ve gotten reefslider anyways.
There should be an option to jump off the reef slider and let it explode by itself akin to villager's Lloid rocket in super smash bros.

It’s unfortunate because I main the Dapple Dualie Nauveau’s (which people are already calling downgraded Tetra’s) but the reason I like them so much is because of Torpedo, as well as their fast dodge time, same reason I mained the Clear Dapples in Splatoon 2 (I still mained the Neo Splash in both Splatoon game, and I was ecstatic when I saw it coming back, but currently the only Splash has crab tank and- tbh I don’t LOVE crab tank no matter how popular the meta says it is) and they DEFINITELY need to buff reef slider more, seriously just making the person invulnerable from the moment the special is activated to the end lag- even that might not even do much but it would still help- they should also probably increase the radius of damage, (or how far out the damage can go) because, as you saw, you might explode right next to someone and nothing will happen… it’s becoming a kind of useless special but it’s also new so there are goin to be issues, let’s just hope Nintendo fixes those issues in some way

This idea might sound scary but if Reef Slider has no start up (or better off have invincibility right when R is pressed) and no End lag then the special would feel like fitting somewhere. The added invincibility at the end doesn't do much and doesn't destroy bomb either.
I feel like added invincibility frame at the end is just a lazy edit to nerf buff the special. Maybe the user could get like a full Ink armour buff like how S2 did so you can still get shot but at least you can try get off or get pushed off the edge if stopped near the edge, giving counterplay to them still for predictibility but survivability for user too
if it had no startup I think that'd be a little bit too overpowered as a panic button, but the no endlag thing would definitely work.
A part of me doesn’t mind no start up / frame one invincibility. In the direction Splatoon 3’s meta is going, who cares if Reefslider becomes an actually good panic button. Chaos! Chaos!
I think the issue is that if you aren’t on the exact same level as the reef slider user, you won’t take any damage. This means that if you jump, or the thing explodes in the air, you can just avoid it.
The issue with the special is the way it inflicts damage. I think that circle that is created before doing the splash shows where i tdoes damage, but you maybe end up in a place 2 cm away from where you should be, which sometimes can make a bug, making it useless. The way it inflicts damage must be like the splashdown: A spherical splash. Also, the hitbox with this special and the radius must change, making it a little bigger.
I feel like Reefslider definitely needs some buffs, I would personally reduce the endlag, make it so that the explosion destroys bombs, increase the indirect damage from 60 to 70 so it combos better, and then maybe it'll be good.
If that's not enough, then give it the Splashdown treatment and make it like 20 points cheaper on all weapons that have it, so it fills the role of this games cheap attavking special. Weak, but quickly charged.
Remember at the very beginning of the tesfire when noone knew how to counter it so everyone thought it would be broken?

I recently came across your videos and I love them. They are really well made and incredibly helpfull. I also have the biggest respect for you, because you managed to make it to pro level using duallies. I tried to use them as well but had to come to the conclusion, that I lack the nececarry skills to do so (I suck at this game in general). So I am now looking for a new weapon that I am at least descent at.

They gave it the wrong adjustment, we needed end lag reduction not I-Frames

Honestly with the special being so high commitment, with it going so far into enemy ranks, Reefslider should have a bigger explosion. The elevation messes with this thing in the majority of the clips: if the explosion point is higher or lower than the enemy, they just don’t get splatted. Having a bigger hitbox could make it stronger, as it’s already super high commitment and punishable for sure.
Great video! Reefslider is in fact, completely useless. BTW tho, I have a question. In the start of the video, you had two clips of your Octoling using Reefslider. But the clips were shot from a different perspective and I was wondering how you did that, Chase.
I had hope for reefslider until they revealed kraken, which is basically better reefslider. And it’s not even a joke, anything you can say reefslider is good at, Kraken is too and does more. I am so sorry both of your main weapons ended up with the 2 worst specials in the whole game

Has anyone noticed how when someone uses a reefslider at the beginning, it’s hard to splat someone in it unless they just got the toy shark out, but when you use it, just as you’re about to move, you got splatted. It’s honestly just pure bs. The fact that UNDERCOVER has it is already a problem.
At least getting double kills with the reefslider is satisfying
I can’t tell you how many Times, the invincibility almost actived and I got killed before that (I’m taking the trail was done and was about to start moving)

Playing Undercover in Splatoon 3 really makes you want to... Stop and Explode.
i just hope that the tetras get a better kit in fresh season, it is such an underrated weapon and putting reef on it was a bit underwhelming as that special is practically buggier than stamp (somehow)
The worst part about terrible specials like Reefslider and Ultra Stamp is that (unfortunately) some kits have to suffer the consequences. I sure do hate Dapple Dualies Nouveau, but they have to put Reefslider on SOMETHING. On the other hand, by that logic, Inkjet should have been on more weapons by now. Either way, Reefslider is not a special, but a risky movement option. What a shame.

The thing’s hitbox is so bad that it can’t even hit the rainmaker shield when it’s on a pedestal 💀
Though i believe that reefslider needs more buffs. i think it needs a bigger blast and paint radius to make it harder to escape and make the pathing less visible to opponents would be a good start to buffing the special. i also have gotten some good clips with using reefslider but also has had some disappointing affects so im 50/50 on what would make it work
I’d be the last person to argue that Reefslider is good, but from the montage, it seems like the problems are mostly bugs/glitches and NSO or latency issues. Granted, the design of the special isn’t exactly great - it would probably require either minimal/no end lag or no startup to be good, but neither is really healthy design-wise. There are some things that could change though. The blast destroying bombs could really help the special, and the way it has to hit the ground to activate when used in the air could be changed. You could also add the option to slightly curve the path on startup.
But overall, I feel like the special just needs to be fixed on a basic level. The special probably isn’t great to begin with, but it’s really hard to judge when you’re just not hitting people or clipping underneath the stage when you use it.
Latency or not, that's still an issue with the special. It happens super often with it (as you can see with the clips) where as no other special really gets affected by latency like this. But also, the lethal radius is just bad to begin with
@@Chase247 again, I think that’s a bug with the way the explosion is coded. The lethal radius is roughly comparable to what Splashdown was. It just doesn’t work because apparently Nintendo is too lazy to modify their usual explosion code.
@Xraenon yeah you're right. But my point is, that's still Reefslider sucking. Also, I've made tests on this, the lethal radius is significantly worse than Splashdown, even with no latency

Would it be cool if reefslider can zig zag instead of going in a straight line? We got the kraken with full control, why can't reefslider get this at least?
I had a match on brinewater where I meant to reefslide into the zone cause I saw 2 people, I was on the side alleys and when I popped it, I was right on a ledge and fell down and slid straight into the wall. But the craziest thing is the ink explosion still landed on the zone killing both of them when I wasn’t anywhere near them
I have no idea why reefslider has any endlag at all, like you'd think a special designed for pushing in safely would allow you to, you know, push in safely. I have no idea why they wanted this special to be so easy to punish, like, splashdown was the worst special in splatoon 2 precisely for that reason, and this is essentially just splashdown 2, so there's absolutely no way that this would be game breaking in the first place, so idk why they had to play it so safe. What makes it really frustrating though is how they gave crab, a special which is supposed to be weak at close ranges, no endlag, while the special that's supposed to be strong up close has like a full second of endlag. Who thought this was a good idea. I'm honestly ok with the startup time so it doesn't become a panic button special, and the bomb thing is stupid but at least a bit hard for enemies to pull off, but I just can't forgive the endlag, makes using this special so unfun, and fighting it way too easy

Once you get used to the game, it gets easier and easier to avoid.
At the start, people could get kills with it. People would die to it. But i can’t remember the last time one killed me. I’ve killed plenty of them though.
I remember in the splatfest premiere i died so many times to it.
But we’ve all learned how to avoid it. Unless you can’t at all, there’s no way for it to kill you.
It’s sad, because it is a fun special.

When I just activate the reef slider it always lets the enemy splat me.
I tend to primarily use reefslider as a tool for positioning and displacement, and it works kind of well, but also I'm not high rank at all.
And also if used right you can just detonate on the tower in tower control and use that as both a pretty good explosion and some invincibility frames.
It's still bad, but do you think an undercover brella main actually cares about that? I'll take anything I can get

2:41 This useful glitch is still in the game, and it's very easy to pull off. It's strange to say it but if they fix the derailing issue with rainmaker shield then that can be considered a nerf!
I hope tetras get a new kit, I love this weapon so much and it's so disappointing for it to be held back by a special

…honestly, it’s a gamble of if you’re gonna get 8 year olds or people who are atleast 12 in your or the enemy team. And tbh, I’m surprised I actually don’t see them use reefslider like a panic button as much as I expected… but then again I don’t think I’d notice either with the startup lag and with so much stuff going on around me.
I mean reefslider seems designed to be bad, like splashdown. I'm honestly OK with reefslider being a low impact special. But what annoys me about it is that the points for special on it are not lower than other weapons with high impact specials. Tetras pays the same points for special for reefslider that splash pays for crab - it's like why?

We need Duelies with Kraken, mostly i am not good with Duelies. I am not touching Reefslider ever again, it's a worst special in Splatoon History.
I think splashdown was a bit worse. Reefslider is without a doubt bad, but at least you die after the explosion goes off, rather than before.

Yeah I keep telling my friends how bad reefslider is and it makes me sad as a dapple duelie main. I keep telling them I prefer the splashdown over this tbh. The end lag is what pisses me off… but most of all the exploding radius, it’s horrible. Many times, like in the clips, I’ve popped the slider next to someone who is cornered or is out of ink stranded in the open and they somehow don’t take damage & live and I get splatted literally after! I really hope they fix the reefslider up by just removing the end lag all around like splash down. Cus even if they exploding radius of the reefslider is bigger you can still get splatted by a backliner like E-liter or Hydra.

i accidently went into the water with reefslider while being the last person alive in salmon run. my teammates prolly thinked i was trash, im not good at game but still i felt so bad after that...
I think a really good way to balance it is to remove the starting vulnerability. Weaker specials should have less counterplay
I only have the issue of dying instantly upon using it.
I also think they stripped reefslider of the one tactical thing splash down could do which was expand its splash area. Maybe it should be bigger the longer the distance. And also the ability to clear the area before you land a super jump was taken.
Then there’s me who got hit through a ceiling by the explosion
Or what would be nice, is if it was given a jump-back like Inkjet and Zipcaster (and would also give more reason to use Drop Roller too)
Ehh, I like actually going to where it ends, it pulling you back really does not work for it.
However, it honestly SHOULD be compatible with drop roller at the end, just that change alone would be a massive buff to reefslider and make it work way better

I'm glad none of my mains have this special... yet. I do have to deal with stamp moments all the time so I don't know if that's any better...
I don't really have any bad Reefslider clips because my experience with Reefslider is in Salmon Run (which I think its okay in SR and I definitely have a ton of nice Reefslider clips there). I do have a clip of me sniping a Reefslider before the rails finished with Reef-Lux, that was pretty fun. Rip weapons with Reefslider instead of the cooler Kraken tho.
Whoa hold on, I think there needs to be more respect for A ranks. They definitely can dodge Reefslider, but not Ultra Stamp.
THE SALMON RUN CLIPS ARE SO PAINFUL. I've lost over 50 games because of someone's panic-buttoned reef slider to revive everyone and a cohock knocks them off the map IN THE ANIMATION????
Now that we are on Splatoon 3 I really feel guilty for how I used to critique Splashdown, withou knowing it will desapear. Honestly thought, Splashdown has its cons but against Reefslider, it’s superior (at least for me)

I love reef slider. That is, I love when my opponents use reef slider and I easily get out of the way and then kill them.
Honestly I wonder if it’d be balanced if they gave it invincibility throughout the whole duration includong startup + endlag

The fact that many times in the montage did players just straight up not die when the reefslider was a foot away is unacceptable.
It makes me think that something changed to the reefslider in between the testfire and the main game, because I swear that the reefslider was way better then, than now.
I agree that special does need some more buffs, in my opinion tri zooka needs a buff as I do not like the delay before I can fire my weapon and after I fire my weapon.
Remove reef slider lag, allow you to drift with it, and make the lethal radius bigger, and make the explosion kill any special include kraken
I kinda feel like the game has too many specials lol. Kraken might have the same endlag issue based on the small footage we have but i don’t think weapons with reef now would complain if they got kraken instead. Or replace tenta with super chump but that’s a topic for another day

Reefslider is such a flaming pile of garbage, everything about this thing is a disappointment, no flexibility, no room for creative play nothing, you just go in a straight line and bump a pebble and explode early and it kills no one and you get murdered right after.
Like seriously, how do you make something play that lame? It's a frickin bottle rocket-powered shark that you ride like a bike, imagine if you could launch off ramps or something, now that'd be cool! No, instead you get a damn inflatable pool toy _that sinks in water._
