How can i get routine speach to play on all speakers at once. Like telling me how much time there is before i should leave for work. Also is there a way to specify which routines play on which speakers?
Just tried the time scheduling ability out. It also works in the Philippines and is not US only. Was able to finally unify SmartThings and Yeelight devices. Great video!
This was great. Thanks, Brett. I've been using google home products for a couple years but until now had no idea I could automate my routines based on day/time. This saves a lot of time managing multiple apps for various smart plugs, lights, etc.
Thank you for your videos. Is it possible to creat one routine that will function as a timer for your lights. For example turn on outdoor lights at sundown then shut off after 5 hours? Or must you create two routines that have on off functions? We would like this function when we are not home.
Now I thought I'd share one of my automated lighting tips that I learned. Sometimes, there's pairs of Lights, or trios of Lights, or more that you want to act in unison and other times where you want them to act independently. I find that if I have two end tables with lights on on either end of a sofa that sometimes I want them to both to dim at the same light or change color the same and then other times I may want them to act independently, I named one sofa one and the other sofa two. The same with bedroom night tables I named one bed one and the other bed two. When I want them to act together I just say dim the bed lights, or dim the sofa lights, or change the sofa lights to Warm White. When I want them to act independently I meant I call them out as sofa 1 or sofa 2. This would also work if you had a room with, say 4 ceiling lights that sometimes you want to act independently another times altogether.
Is there a way of turning on an effect with Google Assistant & LifX lights? I have worked out how to create a scene with multiple lights that have different colors, but I want to include the color cycle effect.
Thank you so much for this video! I literally went to purchase the google mini and c by ge light bulbs and have set routines! this is great! I can't wait to have a completely smart home!
Do you have any recommendations if a trigger misses turning on/off a light? I have 28 exterior soffit lights and find that a few get missed during the routine. I have also tried adding duplicate routines to catch this but still have the issue. Thinking about moving the lights to switches so I only have to trigger 4 switches vs 28 lights. Thoughts?
Hello Brett I have a question and hope you can help :-) When I am turning on/off my wifi switch using the voice command, google is saying everytime for ex. "OK the Christmas tree light is turning off/on". It's quite annoying. Is it possible to set it such way that google doesn't say anything but just do what I ask to do, or just a short answer OK or audio signal would be fine. Merry Christmas and Happy New Year.
Btw, since you already have all your Christmas lights in a room called Christmas, you can also make a custom command where you write," turn on Christmas" This method is better, then the same routine is valid if you add more Christmas lights later on. It saves you the hassle of changing the routine.

Hi! I own a Google Nest and just bought a (Google compatible) smart light. I can turn it on or off from both its own app (Smart Life) or Google Home, but imagined I'd be able to more than that. For instance, I would like it to go on as a night light in my kids' room, but then gradually go light bright around 7 am to help them wake up. And I want them to be able to manually turn it on or off during the day and use it as a regular neutral white light. I'm assuming all of this can be achieved, but don't know where to start. Help please.
Yes you can use both the Google and Smart Life app to control. Everything should work but it depends on the devices. If it is a light bulb, and the kids turn off the actual light switch, it won't turn on in the morning unless the switch is on. There are automations you can make to gradually bright the light one step at a time.
I wonder if you can help me where I could turn my light red for 1 minute white for 1 minute and then blue for 1 minute then repeat back to the first One red white and blue. I would appreciate your help thank great video by the way 😊

Does anyone know how to share routines as I also have one so when I say "make it Christmas" all the lights come on yet it doesn't work when my wife or son says it :(
Hey Brett! I really enjoy your videos, thank you very much. One question I have about routines that is always stumped me. I have five smart lights in my living room and at 5 p.m.I want the sofa lights to come on at 50%, the table light to come on at 30% and the floor light to come on at 40%.as far as I can see, there's no way to do routine that can change the brightness of individual bulbs. I hope I'm wrong here Again, thank you very much.
That is a great question. I wish the brightness option was in there by default but this is how I would do it. 1. Set the routine to turn on all 3 lights like you have already done. 2. Add a custom command and type in, "set the Sofa Lights to 50% brightness" 3. Then create another custom command for the table light and one for the floor light. And that's it! Let me know if that works for you.
Hey bro! Work like a charm, thanks! Theoretically you could use the same thing to change color as well as brightness. Thank you again very much!... John

You should probably consolidate brands, but if you’re controlling them via a Google Home routine it wouldn’t matter whether they were the same brand, as long as they all ‘Work with Google Assistant’
Try this: Create a Custom Routine Make sure your mobile device or tablet is connected to the same Wi-Fi as your Google Nest or Google Home speaker or display. Tap Settings, Scroll down to "Google Assistant services," then tap More Settings. Select Assistant, then tap Routines, Add a routine.
I'm very tech savvy and even I have struggled differentiating between Google Assistant Routines and what you can setup in SmartThings. Brett, how would you differentiate the two in your own words? I have both, but feel I am not utilizing either as much as I could. Thanks for the awesome video!
The difficult part is the setup can be completely different for each person. I think of it this way. SmartThings is there to add devices that require a hub into my home. Google Home is then my controller and automation center for all my devices. I know some who like of it differently where then just use the Google Home to control their SmartThings devices by voice and they use SmartThings to automate everything. There are some benefits to this because SmartThings can turn on/off devices based on sunset without me ever having to go and change the time. Making this video it took me 10 minutes to find my SmartThings automations so I would choose one location and stick to that.
SmartThings (or any Home Automation Hub) is going to provide you with a much wider range of automation control over a voice assistant (Google or Alexa). The voice assistants are great for people who just want to manually control devices by their voice or app and maybe even setup some basic automations, but if you want to do anything more outside of simple on off tasks you'll need to be looking at some form of hub to have that ability. If you are looking to get into setting up a lot of automation I would strongly encourage you to check out webCoRE. It's free and makes SmartThings actually useful outside of just a connection point for different devices for Google to use.
This is very frustrating. I don't have a smart things icon. I just got a power strip and put two lights on it. I can turn them on and off. That took me hours to figure out. I now know that google home and google nest are the same thing. That took a half hour. I am ready to throw it out the window. I don't have a manage routines. I'm in Canada. Okay, now I found the + icon. You go so fast I have to keep starting and stopping and rewinding to catch what you are doing. I think I have my window light on a routine now. I don't know how to check if it will work. Maybe you could start a seniors channel to explain the obvious and go slow?
By adding other products to your Home and I think your Google Assistant isn't fully activated. Try opening the Google Assistant app and see if that works.
So I have a bought a teckin smart bulb and teckin light strip. I have them listed in the same room. One called light. The other called light strip. When in the room. And I say hey Google light on. It turns all the lights in the bedroom on. Not just the bulb called light. Why is that?
Each Google Home will turn on and off the light linked in the same room if you just say turn on the light. This makes it so if you have multiple rooms with lights, it only turns on the one room. To fix this you could change the light strip name to just "colored strip" (removing light from the name) and see if that fixes it. If it doesn't, you would need to move the light strip to a different room within the Google Home app and that will work too.
I appreciate the fast response. Explaining deeper.... Why on GHM in a single room does it automatically group all lights together. On Alexa don't you have to make lighting groups? In my case the main light is the bedroom over head light. If different bedrooms have smart overhead lights. Each room can't just call that bulb "light or bedroom light" or by saying that it would turn on all rooms with bulbs named "light"? *I have mostly Alexa's and one GHM. But this is my first attempt to set up smart accessories. Lights are always first I assume. Whether by smart plug or bulb. Sorry there are a lot of questions here.
Yeah the difference between Google home and Alexa are quite different here. So the best thing to do is name your lights based on room ie: bedroom light or family room light and put them in their corresponding room name. Then when you say turn off the light with Google, only the lights in the same room as the Google home will actually turn off. So instead of using groups like Alexa, you're going to be using rooms. If you want all lights to turn off you can you can say, "Turn off all lights" or if you just want it to turn of all lamps say, "turn off lamp" and then it will turn off all lights with Lamp in the name.
So here is what I tried. The bedroom light is called "light". The light strip was called "test strip ". But when they are in the same "room" GHM won't let two lights work in the same room (on my app). When I say turn off test strip. It's says sorry I don't understand. And in the app it says not responding. But if I move the test strip to a new "room" it will now work. Doesn't seem right.
That is odd. Sometimes it is best to change the name in the app you set up the lights and then ask Google to, "sync my devices" and it will refresh the accounts connected and update the app.
Since this video they have updated the Routines option in the Google Home app so you no longer need to select a speaker and can create time based Routines that can run your devices.
As usual, not available in Belgium like a lot of other features and languages. Like it is a country that is not discovered yet. Why isn't this function available to everyone. It's a god damn function, how can this be different from country to country?? 🙄

Okay, now I found the + icon. You go so fast I have to keep starting and stopping and rewinding to catch what you are doing. I think I have my window light on a routine now. I don't know how to check if it will work. Maybe you could start a seniors channel to explain the obvious and go slow?
My home app only has media and settings options. How do o get the rest of these?
How about with Google assistant
Looks like guy from queens of the Stone Age lol
On my geeni app it had a rainbow scene I want my routine to change it to my rainbow scene but I just want that but nobody has that as a video
The smart things app is completely broke now what do you suggest now to yous
How do you do this with only wifi and a phone running Google Home app? I'm not putting ugly speakers in my house
Since this video they have updated the Routines option in the Google Home app so you no longer need to select a speaker and can create time based Routines that can run your devices.
Thanks
can i turn smart light remotely when i am not home?
Routine: Close Sesame :-)
May the forever be with you! Haha.
Which phone is this person using?
will this work with smart plugs
Yep!
How do you do this without google home speakers?
No chance to work with sunset or sunrise?
Subbed...cheers
As usual, not available in Belgium like a lot of other features and languages. Like it is a country that is not discovered yet. Why isn't this function available to everyone. It's a god damn function, how can this be different from country to country?? 🙄
My light bulbs are not recognized by Google home app.
I am still waiting for Google to turn off my lights after 30 min at my entryway....
Who else came here couse of the new home alone movie
Hiii
I don’t understand
First
Curious, are you able to do this from the app even without a Google Home speaker?
@@TechWithBrett yes. It would use your phone instead of a home speaker.
