Here after learning Don Newkirk passed away....the first R&B artist signed to Def Jam Records. Just thinking about the road he paved for so many artists. For those who weren't yet born or were too young for this era in Hip Hop and R&B, this was some formative years and helped usher in the genre becoming more mainstream. Being a group that included white and black artists was groundbreaking. They also should be applauded for calling out Vanilla Ice and his sampling of other music production without any acknowledgement or approval. Had they been on a label and not had The Beastie Boys, Vanilla Ice, and "M.C. Household Tool", I believe their success would have been much greater. You gotta pay homage though, an incredible video!

@@ronnrogers9459 I mean, he was part of a fairly popular hip hop group at one time, and is known for discovering one of the greatest rappers of all time. It's not like he's a nobody desperate for attention. This would definitely not be his "only" claim to fame.

@@ronnrogers9459 I dunno man - on the one hand Serch definitely stretches the truth and/or lies about some things (like the radio interview where Pete actually argued with Hammer more than Serch did), but Hammer also had a reputation for this kind of thing. I think there's probably _some_ truth to it; maybe Hammer put out a "hit" but just to scare him.

I don't think he was poor....there are middle class neighborhoods in Brooklyn...like Flatbush, my cousin lived there...some parts of Bed Stuy are actually townhouses....not housing projects and this is going back to the 80's!

I was 12 when this came out. A friend of mine used to get tapes sent over from America and this was one of them!! One of the main reasons I fell in love with hiphop!! I'd kill to be that excited about music again!!
