I love my Cayenne S. I normally buy a new car every year because I always like driving something different, but the Cayenne will be my car for years to come because it is such a well balanced vehicle combining the things I like about sports cars and SUV's. Also far more reasonable in maintenance than people say, just don't go to the dealer with it.
Michael Schmitt absolutely my friend!!! If you can’t turn a few wrenches stay away. However, if you can do 90% of the maintenance yourself it’s worth it.
I think the flashing lights might have something to do with the camera's frame per second rate versus the LED's circuit frequency to our eyes it seems solid since its flashing so fast, but the camera has a faster shutter speed so it catches the flashing any photographers or physicists have an opinion/correction?
The 911's engine should be moved where the rear seats are so it'll get a more balanced weight distribution like the Cayenne. But then that'll be called the Cayman.
@k20ep3si the 911 has like 115 horse power less. so i don't know. I think the high center of gravity and suspension actually contributes more then wait. Also momentum in corners and the weight swings might contributes to the handling too.
@FanzyHanzy no im referring to the fact that the digital video camera they used to film this makes the LED taillights look like they are flickering when played back. not the stability management that flashes the brake lights under heavy braking to alert drivers behind. watch at 0:26 , the driver is not braking, but the taillights (not the brake lights) are flickering. its because the refresh rate of the LEDs. but i can understand your confusion on my comment.
1.2s in a laptime of 40 seconds is quite more time than you might think.... around silverstone it would be 4 or 5 seconds diference, so just don't get too excited with the 1.2s....
porsche has amazing engineers. don't see the point in the cayenne turbo though, if you want a sports car that seats four passengers a lower to the ground/lighter sedan would make much more sense ... that is unless it looked anything like the panamera
@Ri1seAgainst they're not flashing...if they were, the brakes would have to be applied very intermittently and this would lead to the car shaking a lot
@edward500mp What road noise? Noises on camera and in reality are much different. No matter how silent the noise is, camera will adapt its microphone to it, and it will sound loud. 911 is a very quiet car.
OK, I don't see the Cayenne as pointless anymore. I mean, it's almost as fast as a 911, but it can carry quite a few more people and luggage comfortable, all while being only a tad (relatively) more expensive.
Considering the Cayenne is a good deal heavier, it ought to be a dog in the corners and since it's the centre of gravity is higher than that of the Carrera 4, there really should be no contest. Porsche have produced some SUV alright.
So did the 911 have the carbon brake package? I didn’t see it if it did. The laws of physics still work, the cayenne just has bigger parts that wear faster, ex I bet the tires on the 911 last longer. I wonder which one is more reliable, or needs less servicing in total.
@edward500mp Just a thought but would you be driving that fast for 1400 miles if you did go on that trip? I would buy the 911 exactly for that reason the sound :-) Of coarse the Cayenne is more sensible option but the 911 is for fun
@spencerleeb LEDs and TVs and stuff like that sometimes look like they are flashing when recorded with a digital video camera, they dont flash in person...
@RobaDave i need how it stacks up to the x6/5M it makes less power then the BMW but i have a feeling the dynamics and suspension in the porsche is better. overall i have a feeling its gonna be close...... esp when the cayenne S comes around
@jeepcherokeeKK37 ive seen really convincing vids of the new one off road, and it does have low-range (i think just not in turbo version). and even the turbo was amazing on the section ive seen damn. I'd like to see Panamera 4 vs Targa 4 vs Cayenne S. Cayenne and panamera with optional glass roofs :P
Put it up against a $40K 430hp Corvette that has nearly the same weight as the 4S with far bigger tires and brakes, and you realize it can't measure up to a real properly balanced sports car (centralized weight unlike the Porsche) with gobs of torque.
Not a hard track at all... had it had some tighter corners or some with Vertical + Horizontal G the 911 would smoke it.. This just proves that in City driving the cayenne could keep up with someone boosting a 911. on a proper track, would be a different tale. Impressive none the less for a 4x4 tho. :)
@risto993 Well, I meant not fast for its class or cost. In the US, it costs about $25K more than a Corvette Z06. It weighs about 100lbs more than the Z06, and yet it has smaller wheels tires and brakes, a slightly higher CG, less centralized mass compared to the front mid engine and mid rear transmission Z06, and it is down 120hp and 160ftlbs of torque on the Corvette (with very slight turbo lag compared to instant throttle response of Vette). And it has a 3.7cuft trunk vs Vettes 22.4cuft.
I would like to see a 1988 Merkur xr4ti, go aggainst porsche hot pepper cayenne. Who would win and was the Merkur xr4ti a good vehicle? Dude Vision is my show
@SouthernKudzu Because it sells, The Cayenne is the car/suv that saves Porsche, without it Porsche would be absorb by another car manufacture years ago, they sell more Cayenne then 911's. That gives Porsche money to built fantastic road and race car. Plus this new one doesn't look as ugly anymore. It stop trying to look like a 911.
@MrJsquared91... Thank you for your Rant. While I happen to agree with you about crappy yanky cars; you should know Porsche is a German company and a German brand. Their cars may be built all over the world but this would not affect their resale value. The only thing that baffles me is why anyone would want to take pride in a car designed by Hitler and associated with Sept 11th ?!.. I'll take the Cayenne thanks.
@Puzlionac some people care more about performance than luxury, some like comfort and handling, and some only care about luxury and the badge, some like the whole package. u can't just say why u need a turbo S or an amg. do you think someone who is a multi-millionaire will care about mpg ? yes even though driving 50 or 30 or 20 having a top of the line performance car is something special.
No disrespect to the guy that is driving, but I think it's time we hand the keys over to our tame racing driver. Some say that his finger tips are identical to Megan Fox's nipples, and that if you shook him as a baby that he would kick you. We call him The Stig!
one niggle (and i haven't seen any other reviews by this group...) but are speeds of the two cars identical when the start the clock???????? very important little detail! I think it would've been better to start from a standstill
hang on. on his times lap in the SUV there ares shots from right in front of him but when they zoom out at say 3:36 magically theres no camera car in front of him...
@toasterhead91... Your weird mate. Nova? I'd prefer an Austin Princess Vanden Plas 1300 Automatic (with original carpets), if im spending Nova money... More leg room in the back too.
I love my Cayenne S. I normally buy a new car every year because I always like driving something different, but the Cayenne will be my car for years to come because it is such a well balanced vehicle combining the things I like about sports cars and SUV's. Basically it's a successor to the 959 Dakar.
1 sec is a lot on a track thats less than a minute long. The Cayenne looks pretty good aswell, especially in the black.
I think the flashing lights might have something to do with the camera's frame per second rate versus the LED's circuit frequency
to our eyes it seems solid since its flashing so fast, but the camera has a faster shutter speed so it catches the flashing
any photographers or physicists have an opinion/correction?
This truck makes little sense yet it is so awesome at the same time.
That is one badass SUV. If you've got the money and the family get it!
The 911's engine should be moved where the rear seats are so it'll get a more balanced weight distribution like the Cayenne. But then that'll be called the Cayman.
Thankfully, this Cayenne looks better than prior iterations too.
i always loved the cayenne!
man thats awesome! the new cayenne rocks!!
@k20ep3si the 911 has like 115 horse power less. so i don't know. I think the high center of gravity and suspension actually contributes more then wait. Also momentum in corners and the weight swings might contributes to the handling too.
Small remark: the Cayenne turbo also had the optional carbon ceramic brakes which were not present on the C4S, narrowing the gap.
Just got one of these bad boys this past Saturday!
That shit looks like a dinosaur in the front... Still would rather buy a used 06 bentley cont GT for that price.
@spencerleeb
perhaps by video
as well as the wheels look like in slow motion
in the new Porsches, the brake lights flash only when is a full brake
Just calculated their specs side by side. Carrera 4S = 8.675 lbs/1hp; Cayenne Turbo = 10.382/1hp. Pretty impressive.
Excellent video, excellent comparison, excellent cars. I'll have a Jag XKR thanks.
i'm sold on the cayenne now. thanks autocar
Best SUV at the moment, hands down. PERIOD.
1.2s in a laptime of 40 seconds is quite more time than you might think.... around silverstone it would be 4 or 5 seconds diference, so just don't get too excited with the 1.2s....
I like the part where his brain implodes when he sees the time! Excellent video.
porsche has amazing engineers. don't see the point in the cayenne turbo though, if you want a sports car that seats four passengers a lower to the ground/lighter sedan would make much more sense ... that is unless it looked anything like the panamera
@Ri1seAgainst they're not flashing...if they were, the brakes would have to be applied very intermittently and this would lead to the car shaking a lot
this new cayenne is awesome
@MrUpgraydde now thats what i call some awesome reasoning, also, the sound of a hemi v8 can't really be beaten
Damn right it is! and will be. Its a Porsche, it obligates it to be :).
Whoa..I had to look closer to make sure its a Cayenne. That previous models were simply ugly. Now this is looks like an exotic car.
@edward500mp What road noise? Noises on camera and in reality are much different. No matter how silent the noise is, camera will adapt its microphone to it, and it will sound loud. 911 is a very quiet car.

Porsche have produced some SUV alright.
@fp5carbon1 it can also mean, why the hyundai tucson looks like an expensive porsche in the back!
thats a much better improvement from the firt models of Cayenne
1.2 seconds is a lot slower over a lap, esp considering it's only a 43 second track. Very impressive however for a SUV
I love our Cayenne. Just remember, it holds 5 persons and has 6 airbags.
So did the 911 have the carbon brake package? I didn’t see it if it did. The laws of physics still work, the cayenne just has bigger parts that wear faster, ex I bet the tires on the 911 last longer. I wonder which one is more reliable, or needs less servicing in total.

i own an infiniti fx35 but once i tr the cayenne , i must say nothing in the market comes near the Cayenne in terms of build quality.
@spencerleeb Your eyes dont notice it, but the camera captures it. they always flash like that, just really fast
Put it up against a $40K 430hp Corvette that has nearly the same weight as the 4S with far bigger tires and brakes, and you realize it can't measure up to a real properly balanced sports car (centralized weight unlike the Porsche) with gobs of torque.

this Cayenne would make a good getaway car after robbing a bunch of loot
Look at him SWEATING at 4:17 LOL
@risto993 Well, I meant not fast for its class or cost.

Lmao such a weapon........good review!
@MldnightCIub I second that. They really don'y know how to appreciate something like these cars.
i luv how the camera can never capture a stationary shot of the LED lights ... haha
this time next year I"m driving one of these bad bois! yeah yeah!
I would like to see a 1988 Merkur xr4ti, go aggainst porsche hot pepper cayenne. Who would win and was the Merkur xr4ti a good vehicle? Dude Vision is my show
I also spotted the SUV with yellow calipers meaning Ceramic brakes... another thing that the 4S didn't have?
What about a Cayenne Turbo S? 550 horsepower? I want that one!
But I'd rather have the Carrera 4S.
it would have been faster if the damn camera car wasn't in it way!
amazing piece of kit...
@MrSimkeNS are you referring to the G Class?
@SouthernKudzu Because it sells, The Cayenne is the car/suv that saves Porsche, without it Porsche would be absorb by another car manufacture years ago, they sell more Cayenne then 911's. That gives Porsche money to built fantastic road and race car. Plus this new one doesn't look as ugly anymore. It stop trying to look like a 911.
What Turbo S will do, smash the record.
Superb!!!!
Wait if he is driving the 911 and someone is filming in the back. what car are they using to film.
I bet if he took the Cayenne around the track a couple more times, he might he even do better than the 4s.
The comparison is not fair: How can you compare a Cayenne with 911?
it would be fair if you compare Cayenne Vs BMW X6 M ... 911 Vs Audi R8
that is really impressive..
0:22 It weighs 82,000 lbs? Sounds about right.
Cayenne is the sportiest SUV EVER
BUT BUT BUT............Don't forget Cayenne has MUCH BETTER weight distribution than the 911.
best offroad car HUMMER H2, best SUV Cayenne
why do the rear lights flash?
Ok I can't afffordddd it...Can we get back to a hot Ford Freestyle LTD AWD now...
got a feeling the x5m is faster..
i think the turbo S will compete with the M
I would hate to know that an SUV is faster than my car lmao
What a beast....nice
@MrJsquared91... Thank you for your Rant.
While I happen to agree with you about crappy yanky cars; you should know Porsche is a German company and a German brand. Their cars may be built all over the world but this would not affect their resale value.
The only thing that baffles me is why anyone would want to take pride in a car designed by Hitler and associated with Sept 11th ?!.. I'll take the Cayenne thanks.
thumbs up for Porsche.
@GREZZ its slower because its a 4 door suv with a weight of 3 tons...
turbo V8 vs n/a flat 6?
hahha yeah it will... Thats a Porsche. The Cherokee is just raw power nothing else. This has everything.
@ksaloverksa Of Course the comparison is not fair, it's not a comparison in the first place, it's a demonstration of how fast Cayenne is.
Just got the new Cayenne GTS ;)
@TheNineveh slow, maybe, but they look great
No disrespect to the guy that is driving, but I think it's time we hand the keys over to our tame racing driver. Some say that his finger tips are identical to Megan Fox's nipples, and that if you shook him as a baby that he would kick you. We call him The Stig!
nice....... i also just got it for my daughter.
x5m and x6m for me the x6m is faster than the prosche cayenne turbo and the x5m is the same 0-60 as the porsche cayenne turbo
Impressive.
why do the LEDs flash like that?
one niggle (and i haven't seen any other reviews by this group...) but are speeds of the two cars identical when the start the clock???????? very important little detail!
I think it would've been better to start from a standstill
@Turbulence654321 lol....he's talking about british pound sterling....its their currency.
@RobaDave apart from the X5M and X6M that is
look more like the new Kia why can´t they make it look like a FX Q5 or X6
hang on. on his times lap in the SUV there ares shots from right in front of him but when they zoom out at say 3:36 magically theres no camera car in front of him...
@Baruka88 Its the ESP (PSM on Porsches).. why bother to try to sound like you know something when you obviously don't....
i get a porsche carrera anytime!
So what did we learn class? The Carrera 4S is slow as crap and costs too much. :D
@toasterhead91... Your weird mate. Nova? I'd prefer an Austin Princess Vanden Plas 1300 Automatic (with original carpets), if im spending Nova money... More leg room in the back too.
@TtimWh is it ugly, or is it just different from the rest?
x6m vs cayenne turbo!
how much is this car worth it
@MrUpgraydde pretty sure round a track the cayenne would kill the srt8 though
