One of my favorite scenes in a sports movie, "we're gonna be awesome for you right now" and really one of Kevin Costner's most underrated performances.
This scene always gets me Chapel (Costner) says he doesn't know if he has anything left in his arm the catcher (Gus) tries to get into Billy Chapel's head by tell don't worry if arm is tired we're the best team right now because of him so matter what happens we'll back him up so just throw alright ⚾️.
John C. Reilly is DEFINITELY one of the best actors of this generation... the simple fact that he can go from "For the Love of the Game" to movies like "Talladega Nights" n "Step Brothers" is simply amazing!!! Agreed??? He can go from a gripping drama to the most silly a comedy is the sign of pure talent!!!
John C. Reilly is one of the best actors of this generation... in spite of the fact that he can go from "For the Love of the Game" to garbage movies like "Talladega Nights" and "Step Brothers".
This was such a good movie. Very underrated baseball movie. Sure, it was more of a love story, but still one of the best I've watched. Kostner killed it here.
What makes this scene even MORE powerful is remembering that right befor the game the Manager was going to start another catcher. Billy calmly tells ths skipper : Gus catches or I DON'T PITCH. Me amd Gus. Nobody else. This is why.
This is one of the most powerful scenes in the movie. John C. Rielly has been in so many movies. I wonder if he had to audition because THIS scene is what really shows the connection between these two. Just watched it again yesterday. Great movie & awesome music
There have only been a couple of movies which made me weep and this is one of them. I've been a competitive ballplayer most of my life and won numerous championships. Love to compete, but there will come a day when my body just won't be able to do it anymore. The day I hang up my cleats and put away my bat I'll have to call someone to babysit me because I guarantee you, I'm gonna get knee-walking tight that night. The fact that he had such a tremendous achievement and Jane was gone really did me in. His greatest professional accomplishment and he was alone.
Your damn right he was. This speech gives me chills every time, nothing like a strong team that sticks together no matter what ... for love of the game.
its a very mystic thing. you trust your catcher completly.i would have gone through hell and earth for mine. he knew me and i knew him. and when the 2 of us was in sync,no batter could touch us.man i love this game .
Funny thing...I was better at football than baseball, and I like pretty much all sports to some degree...but baseball...there's something otherworldly about it. It's the best game anyone ever made.
Finally got to see this in full, damn what a picture It is amazing when the catcher and pitcher are in sinc you can see it during the game, it is why some pitchers will only use one catcher
When Cole Hammels threw his no hitter yesterday for the Phillies it reminded me of this scene. Looked all over to find it. Thanks for the upload! One of my favorite scenes from the movie! :)
When you have a catcher who's been there through thick and thin, this is what it's like. You trust the guy completely, you two are a team and mainly the catcher reminds you to calm down and just play catch
If this isn't the last hoorah movie I don't know what is. The last time before you're officially over that line. I have been drinking but you know what I mean. Very happy but very sad at the same time. It will eventually happen to everyone whether you think it will or not. Great movie!
Happens to all of us. Damn good movie and 100% agree with you about the last hoorah!
Such a good scene! Just about my favorite. That trust someone has your back. I took it for granted in my Life in Sports n Military. I,ve not had it for many years. Miss it!
I own the DVD, but haven't seen it in years. Had to give this a "like" - sometimes we view stuff in aftermath with a critical eye, but moments like this remind us of what captivated us the first time.
A lot of years ago one of the Red's pitchers said that the catcher (Johnny Bench, of course) was the brains his job was NOT to think just THROW, do exactly what he got told to do, and the TEAM would back him up! When you had the Red's teams back then it was certainly true!
i'm a real estate agent. Title sales rep just told me this story here in my real estate office, as we discussed UCLA's epic comeback against Washington State last Saturday 092119. "We don't suck right now" likely said on the Bruins sideline. (me and title rep are Bruins). I never had heard of this move. Just Field of Dreams.
Isn't it great that Kevin Cosner is a jock? When he plays roles like this he is totally believable, unlike other actors who think an athletic supporter is a person who makes cash contributions to their alma mater. Remember Tim Robbins in Bull Durham? Great actor, but it was pretty obvious he'd never thrown a baseball before that movie was made.
Was watching this earlier. Wife comes in and I said that the listing gives it two stars but I love it anyway. So we're watching for a while and the wife rolls over and says, "I can see why this is two stars, babe." Pisses me off when the wife doesn't get why these films are so great. I kinda take it personally.
A poignant scene. While being drama, it does show how a catcher can make a pitcher continue on, believing he can get the job done. For that, it makes it a great scene, because it very well could reflect reality.
Fantastic life long emotional movie that has a storyline for everybody. It get you really excited, especially for baseball lovers of everyone but the dreaded Yankees..lol
Wait a minute are you going to write a song about this later, cuz I'm not having this conversation if your going to turn it into a song. There they were The best team of friends Who looked out for each other...
Hearing Vince Scully's voice is like hearing your Grandfathers voice that you loved.
Great film and Vince's voice enhanced the movie.
One of my favorite scenes in a sports movie, "we're gonna be awesome for you right now" and really one of Kevin Costner's most underrated performances.
Agreed :)
One of my favorite scenes from one of my favorite movies of all time.
We don't stink right now!
Absolutely!!!
When he says "we're gonna be awesome for you right now..." I get fkn chills. I love this speech.

He can go from a gripping drama to the most silly a comedy is the sign of pure talent!!!
Dont forget the perfect storm as Murphy who is stuck working with the dude that banged his wife
John C. Reilly is one of the best actors of this generation... in spite of the fact that he can go from "For the Love of the Game" to garbage movies like "Talladega Nights" and "Step Brothers".
Don't forget "Boogie Nights" !!! Despite the topic, also a great movie that he was great in!
Also his musical number in “Chicago”
“I’m bad, and that’s good. I’ll never be good, and that’s not bad. There is no one I’d rather be….than me!” - Wreck-It Ralph
This is such an overlooked baseball movie - but it is as realistic as any of the other great ones. This is my favorite baseball movie.
Love that the Catcher and his friend is there for him. Do no care how good the movie was. Great message
My all time favorite movie of Kevin Costner. He was real and love story as the back drop made him vulnerable.
Take's me back to my youth ! ⚾
I love this game .
This was such a good movie. Very underrated baseball movie. Sure, it was more of a love story, but still one of the best I've watched. Kostner killed it here.
This is probably my favorite scene of the movie. Thank you John C. Reilly.
What makes this scene even MORE powerful is remembering that right befor the game the Manager was going to start another catcher. Billy calmly tells ths skipper : Gus catches or I DON'T PITCH. Me amd Gus. Nobody else. This is why.
I forgot about that! Yes!
Reminds me of Carlton and McCarver.
This is one of the most powerful scenes in the movie. John C. Rielly has been in so many movies. I wonder if he had to audition because THIS scene is what really shows the connection between these two. Just watched it again yesterday. Great movie & awesome music
This is one of his best movies and it’s tragically underrated…
best baseball movie ever
I Love Baseball, and Baseball movies....This was one of my favorites. Thought Costner was very underrated in this role as was the movie.
There have only been a couple of movies which made me weep and this is one of them.

John C. Reilly Was Awesome In This Scene
I'm a big John C. Reilly fan. Top-notch actor.
best JCR perfomance all time?
Incredibly talented idiot that has made some, amazingly, horrible choices.
@MANCHESTER UNITED Soccer is one of the greatest measures of mediocrity on this planet. It is the perfect sport for socialists and communists.
Your damn right he was. This speech gives me chills every time, nothing like a strong team that sticks together no matter what ... for love of the game.

Funny thing...I was better at football than baseball, and I like pretty much all sports to some degree...but baseball...there's something otherworldly about it. It's the best game anyone ever made.
Kenneth Hall , same here. My best sport by far growing up was hockey. But baseball will forever be my true love.
Finally got to see this in full, damn what a picture
It is amazing when the catcher and pitcher are in sinc you can see it during the game, it is why some pitchers will only use one catcher
We don’t stink right now. We’re the best team in baseball, because of you.
When Cole Hammels threw his no hitter yesterday for the Phillies it reminded me of this scene. Looked all over to find it. Thanks for the upload! One of my favorite scenes from the movie! :)
the boys are here for you ,,,.. just throw.."
Underrated movie! Should get more love as one of the best sports flicks...
When you have a catcher who's been there through thick and thin, this is what it's like. You trust the guy completely, you two are a team and mainly the catcher reminds you to calm down and just play catch

Damn good movie and 100% agree with you about the last hoorah!
We don't stink right now!
All baseball movies are great..... I wish there were more of them.....
Agreed. When they are done right they are the best
We should all be so blessed to have a moment like this in our lives.
Such a good scene! Just about my favorite. That trust someone has your back. I took it for granted in my Life in Sports n Military. I,ve not had it for many years. Miss it!
This scene gives me goosebumps
I own the DVD, but haven't seen it in years. Had to give this a "like" - sometimes we view stuff in aftermath with a critical eye, but moments like this remind us of what captivated us the first time.
Nobody talks about a perfect game until it's over.
I'll miss you the most Scarecrow...
I love that moment. He's in the midst of his greatest moment, but also knows it's all coming to an end at the same time.
I was an extra in this movie it was freezing in Yankee stadium the food was good though
A lot of years ago one of the Red's pitchers said that the catcher (Johnny Bench, of course) was the brains his job was NOT to think just THROW, do exactly what he got told to do, and the TEAM would back him up! When you had the Red's teams back then it was certainly true!

"We don't stink right now!"
For the love of the game.

Damn it every time I watch that scene I get teary eyed! lol
Costner was born to play Cowboys and Baseball players.
Awesome scene!!!Thank you!!!
Reminds me of when the Tigers were good. Hope to get back to those days soon. 🐯
Say what you want about Costner, he does do great baseball movies....
And that is why the pitch clock was introduced.
Just throw I would say that and be like ace I got u we can do this
This scene makes me miss the old Yankee stadium even more
Very good movie.
Every time this movie focuses on the baseball game, it’s awesome. The love story? Not so much . . .
"...but dont, like throw, you know?"
underrated movie
I love this
This could be Von Miller talking to Peyton Manning when they beat the Panthers in the Super Bowl. 🤣🤣

Was watching this earlier. Wife comes in and I said that the listing gives it two stars but I love it anyway. So we're watching for a while and the wife rolls over and says, "I can see why this is two stars, babe."
Pisses me off when the wife doesn't get why these films are so great. I kinda take it personally.
Your wife obviously doesn't really understand baseball. If she did she would see the synergy here. Not her fault. Baseball isn't for everyone.
Mom Dad, can we build bunk beds?
A poignant scene. While being drama, it does show how a catcher can make a pitcher continue on, believing he can get the job done. For that, it makes it a great scene, because it very well could reflect reality.
I guess I’d better watch this movie now that I’ve seen the trailer 🙂
Just...throw.
