By far the 2 best bands at this event. With that being said SU definitely have the most powerful band. Buuuuuuttttt I need them to clean some of those arrangements up well most of them. SU really only played about 3 clean arrangements. I really don't think the legendary "Doctor Isaac Greggs" would approve of this from SU. JSU played very mature and clean arrangements. They were pretty consistent most of the time through out the battle. SU have the power no doubt but I need better tempo and cleaner approach moving forward. I have to give this battle to JSU they earned it.
I’m a die hard SU fan, came all the way from Miami to hear them in person. Honestly JSU had my attention especially when they played “Versace on the floor”. JSU and DEGA are my favorites.

JSUs musicality is what wins . Music is pure and soulful consistently. SU focuses on trying to be loud. They sound great don get me wrong but folks remember what moves them and JSU hit those nerves with song selection, arrangements, originality, and there dancers made you feel the songs. They are a cohesive unit full of traditions and entertaining. I graduated from Morris Brown College and played in the band there so I’m not being biased. Just my opinion. Oh and if all SU fans can point out is a lack of a trumpets...that ain enough.

JSU has the advantage when it comes to the l8wer brass section (cant recall a time when they had a sorry lower brass section). Where as SU has an advantage when it comes to upper brass, I mean they're based out of Louisiana for goodness sake.

Both bands are evenly match!!! Both of them has power!! You have to go with !!! Who has Quality sound!! But I’m a JSU Graduate!!! The southern Doll to me seen to be a little bit classier. With their dancing style
While watching this video, it seems like SU was battling inside their own band. The baritones are trying to play over the trombones. The trumpets tryna play over the mellos. The tubas tryna play over everybody. And honestly, I don't even know why they have woodwinds. One more thing, SU got like six or seven cymbal players and you can't hear any of them, that's a problem.
While JSU came with the more balanced sound, I do think they need to figure out how to balance the mellos and the trumpets. Also the tubas come off way too overpowering during love galore, but I never really liked that arrangement anyway. It does sound better than it did when they first played it though. SU's only standout song to me was The Weekend, other than that, they were just playing songs that they could play very loudly. While JSU had some lulls in song selection to me, they definitely had more standout pieces. So, I give JSU the W on this one.
Soundwise, I gotta go with SU. Even though they had 2 long boring songs I had to fast fwd. They were clean, crisp, and very powerful. Song selection made it seem closer than it was for me I give JSU the edge on song selection. That Sade joint was fiyah! The problem I have with them is the french horns are killing everybody. The sound is too unbalanced, they really need to calm down to let the trumpets be heard. Like they fighting for attention. Besides that, love the battle mentality
B FRESH To be honest this was that one moment JSU got to shine. Because SU’s arrangements couldn’t save their mistakes. But if you go and watch the actual JSU vs SU Game, you’ll see that JSU was blown out by Southern. Zero and Fifth Quarter. To be honest these are the best two bands in the SWAC and only they can stoop up to each others level.
Folks complained back when Jackson had 50+ Trumpets and said that all they heard. Now they have less and a balanced sound and all sections stick out when needed to. Y’all still complain....by y’all I mean SU haters. SU won how? Being louder? They got about 8 to 12 people trying to scream on trumpet to JSU 3 or 4 and might I say they can definitely be heard through audio and in person. Y’all just try to find anything to complain about to make SU seem superior because they are louder. One section in SU that has never failed me since I’ve been following....is the BTones. JSU is the right size decent, I can hear the beautiful upper winds nice and balanced; you don't need 300 members to have a strong 💪 brass section. I said strong not loud. SU is loud but Jackson is stronger they running out of breath and your eyes 👀 popping out your head the middle is where your power is sounds like you playing from your chest technique no matter what style I think we can jam and still be musician, what do you think?

But certain SU sections came out of pocket one too many times. Couple that with the tempo issue on the first selection. JSU with the W. JSU, good job on song selection. Y'all played within your means and played it safe. I do think SU will be better prepared next meeting and will make a statement. But I'm glad to see YOU get this W because the matchup has been getting stale over the past few seasons. Much more exciting now.

I am a Jukebox fan that grew up in Jsu's Backyard.Sonic Boom gets the Duke on this one,they were the most consistent every step of the way.Juke got better as the show went on,but i would rank them as Boom,Jukebox,Corn,and Dega in that area.Unlike last year,the Boom never let SU take Crankfest from them.I expect SU to issue a nice receipt of payback next weekend though.

Are you Serious? Size mean nothing honestly. All these bands have size but what they lack is true technical skill. Meac bands will eat these bands up when it comes at actually skills. Just look at the difference in their concert bands.

I can’t speak for these other bands but SU has done more than prove they have technique...all these other bands do is crank urban radio songs while SU dose it all themes songs,tech songs,rap songs,old school,90s throwback marches you name it SU have done it all in 2017 band year MEAC schools are very lackluster when it comes to football games and band battles concert season is not marching band season and yes SU has a very beautiful concert band sound so I don’t know what you mean by your comment honestly
