Just listen to the huge difference when both played Earthquake in the first round.
Even if we cant come to a conclusion on who won, can we all agree that this is the Grambling that we all missed in the SWAC!!!! But in the end JSU for the W for me..

Both bands sound great. Both have their flaws; however, still great entertainment. JSU and SU are my top bands. Either way I love HBCU bands. One gripe I have with GSU is, Please stop saying "GSU" before every song. We know who you are, just play!

Great battle, but JSU was ahead every round, but made their dominance clear at 18:00. JSU is superior to GSU. GSU has sound and good arrangements. GSUs tubas are pretty weak if you ask me. They have tuba players who are more concerned with going up octaves, which takes away from the section. If the section was solid all around, the few who take it up an octave wouldn’t be an issue, but since they are not that solid, it hurts more than helps. Additionally, seem to fail at playing to the end of the note; they seem gassed, and fail at giving notes their full value. If they could tie up their lose ends, they would be more impressive than JSU, as JSU has size, which is a contributing factor to their sound. But undeniably, JSU is probably the best sounding SWAC band, Southern is the only SWAC band that gives them a run for their money.

No weak Ness was a great arrangement they were good last year they just added to it it's mid season gsu can't do anything but get better theyre one or the top three drilling swac bands

This was a really good battle! JSU takes the W, but not by a lot. I give credit when it’s due. GSU has come a long way. Arrangements are still iffy. That Please me was 🗑. Keep working. JSU’s song selection is 🤔?? at times. But you have to contend with JSU’s tubas🔥🔥. My God those Tubas are on another level. Sweet Love was too fast. Overall the Boom has better arrangements. Grambling definitely took the win. What I will say is that is was close. But for y’all saying Grambling is back, Grambling never left. We’ve always been world game and always will be.

Grambling came to battle and looks like they did their homework and went back to some of the past battles where they took Ls and studied a little bit for this battle. Examples include Pretty Brown Eyes - SCSU hit them with that in 2009 Meac/Swac - ua-cam.com/video/ffEjP6yMFUw/v-deo.html and the Maneater fanfare the JSU always play. That was clever of GSU and it would have nice if JSU had hit them back with it. Keep it up GSU, but let's not kid ourselves though, the difference is still clear, JSU got the W.
Kudos to gram for the major improvement within a week I'm feeling this new direction and open minded adjustments..the future is looking potentially great for this young band..keep improving and grinding in the band room..get that lung stamina up too lol but overall sounded good...sonic boom big doggin as usual..this was a enjoyable battle as well looking forward to more good battles from these two this season

This was a really good battle! JSU takes the W, but not by a lot. I give credit when it’s due. GSU has come a long way. Arrangements are still iffy. That Please me was 🗑. Keep working. JSU’s song selection is 🤔?? at times. But you have to contend with JSU’s tubas🔥🔥. My God those Tubas are on another level. Sweet Love was too fast. Overall the Boom has better arrangements. I look forward to seeing what GSU does this season. Great Battle.

Shout out to Grambling for sounding like an actual college band this year. Some of the songs are full and some are not. Hope you guys keep improving. Y’all actually made this battle interesting. I have GSU the 1st song over JAU. JSU with the W OVERALL.

Really good battle! I liked how they battled playing the same artists! This what 5ths are supposed to be about. Match song for song. Or match the intensity of one song to the other. Good battle. Glad to see GSU step their game up finally.
Good battle both sides. Gsu need to work on being a little more clean even tho they cleaned up a lot it’s hard to say u clean when u playing again bands like JSU and su who usually are very clean. But I can tell gsu came to prove a point.
Y'all better stop playin' with J State! Okay so Grambling has improved a bit but they are still a little sloppy and jumbled on some songs but I will say that Jackson is not to be underestimated by any means this season
Grambling definitely took the win. What I will say is that is was close. But for y’all saying Grambling is back, Grambling never left. We’ve always been world game and always will be.

Grambling came to battle and looks like they did their homework and went back to some of the past battles where they took Ls and studied a little bit for this battle. Examples include Pretty Brown Eyes - SCSU hit them with that in 2009 Meac/Swac - ua-cam.com/video/ffEjP6yMFUw/v-deo.html and the Maneater fanfare the JSU always play. That was clever of GSU and it would have nice if JSU had hit them back with it. Keep it up GSU, but let's not kid ourselves though, the difference is still clear, JSU got the W.

Kudos to gram for the major improvement within a week I'm feeling this new direction and open minded adjustments..the future is looking potentially great for this young band..keep improving and grinding in the band room..get that lung stamina up too lol but overall sounded good...sonic boom big doggin as usual..this was a enjoyable battle as well looking forward to more good battles from these two

I think the consensus from most band heads is the Grambling has definitely improved, best sound I've heard from them in 30+ years but they are not quite there yet. I took my time and scored this battle with a 12 being the max score. GSU-5 JSU-8 Jackson state with the W
