Trip, this was by far the craziest adventure yet! I kept thinking you were going to run up on a gator or rattlesnake. You should do this in January or February.
Christopher: You won't regret it....canceling it. Florida is unmatched in many ways. Some great, some awful. This man is worthy of great praise for sticking with it.
Trip, glad you found it. Last time I was there a buggy made a nice trail for me to follow. I came from the forest road to the West and camped on the island halfway from it. Its a farther trek than the forest road you took. One day I want to follow the outflow down to the Gulf.
@@TripSmith Now if you haven't already, make the trip to the Ocala Natl Forest, go hike to Hidden Pond (several ways to get there for the adventurous) Its clear and cool and swam it many times. Plus the area is a cool place to camp in the midweek when its less busy. Once you are done go paddle the nearby Juniper Creek.
i normally don't comment, but this one seems very adventurous! Plus you just make me giggle. Sketchy???!! that's not even serious!!! Lol! Have fun, be safe!
Maybe it's part spring and part tidepool. The underwater video looked like it was not conducive to plant growth. Maybe it slowly refills with freshwater until a very high tide or weather system pushes in saltwater. Also, that looked like a rough walk.
I’m seriously holding my breath waiting for you to run into a snake or gator. I hate snakes but love gators. 6:58 Sometimes when I feel a little lack luster I take a pinch of Himalayan sea salt. 14:45 If you sweat that much you need more LMNT 😅
I was terrified for you. I'm glad a)you chose not to go in b) you didnt get eaten by something c) you made it out safe and sound and shared this crazy adventure with us.
Got to remember to bring a Sawyer Squeeze on your adventures! I'm interested to learn about the geology of these marsh springs. I've found several on old USGS maps, one practically at the shoreline. I guess they're just such a small magnitude that decaying matter lays on top of them that they can't really boil?
Yea.... I don't know how it would have done with the salt water though as it was a bit salty. I think they would still boil if they had enough flow. One thing that happens is over time, flows underground change and some springs may not flow anymore in general.
I know where you are . Them yellow flies don’t mess around out there .the swamp buggy trails are just tracks from forestry service when there was a big fire out there years ago .
You are just like me. I get on Google maps & search for stuff like this. Bc it could be epic! The bugs are the only thing that can deter me. I wear a little mesh neck/face mask. I’m going to paddle Cypress or Ecofina creek this weekend. Should be cooled off. Do you have any recommendations for campground in those areas (esp near springs) that’s accessible by car/SUV but not gated? We drive in late & get locked out of state parks.
This reminded me of my coastal praire trail hike down in the everglades.. ended up at “clubhouse beach” which turned out to be a muddy slop that smelled of rotten eggs. Would do it all over again😂
Me and abuddy trekked in 2 a desolate lake in North Florida carrying a jon boat over our heads. Took us 2 hrs to get 2 lake. It was pretty and we fished all day and didnt get a bite. I think that was my worst hike ever. Took us 3 hrs to get back to truck!!!
Love the channel Trip! You inspired me to start paddleboarding and I love. I apologize if you'd answered this before but what cameras do you film with?
I grew up in an area like this. You would be wise to ask us natives what we use for bug repellant; Adam's Flea Spray. Yeah, really. Another thing, gators in the wild go to great lengths to avoid people. As long as you don't stumble on to a nest, you’ll rarely see one.
I live in Geneva, AL. My friend and I have airboats. I have a UA-cam channel showing some of the places we have run. Rob Bilbrey is the channel name. I have a question. I run the Choctawhatchee River, Pea River, West Bay, PC, Crooked Island and Murder Creek in Brewton. Plan to run Big Escambia Creek and Blackwater River soon. We are looking for any places that has clear and shallow water to run our airboats. Pretty places. Do you have any recommendations?
Looks like it is near salt creek off of 6th St. & Smutty Hut Rd in the Big Bend WMA. Looks "not so bad" from Google but wow, you really suffered for this video! Bugs, holes, and temperatures. Thankfully no Alligators or poisonous snakes!!! It does look like a turquoise jewel from above! I can see why you wanted to explore.
I agree, most people aren't interested enough to see that to venture out there. Now if it would have been what I was expecting I think it would be different....

Yea, it was the craziest when you look at it from a few angles. Winter would be much better lol
Reminds of my childhood in central Florida
I thought you were a little "off" to make this treck alone...but you let me live vicariously through your adventures.
I don't discount your thinking.... I know I'm a little off if I'm doing stuff like this!
Defiantly on my list of Not On Your Life, No Way, No How ! Your Crazy ! Glad You Survived to share the video.
It definitely looks better on the map than it does when you got there. Thanks for a great adventure.
Yea..... I was expecting something a bit different. Still a great adventure!
I've been planning on doing that for years. Thank you, now i don't have to! Definitely looks better on google.
I've been toying with an idea for an adventure similar to this, but this may have convinced me to shelve it forever.

Another crazy Trip Smith adventure in the bag!
Swamp buggy trails and airboat trails
I'd maybe do that in the winter, not in the middle of the summer. You are one crazy dude! But a cool adventure to see something very few have.

I used to land survey along the Gulf Coast and have had to walk through stuff just like that. There is no way I would do that now. 🐊
