I was born in Argentina. I came here in 1973, and it was here I heard the word diet for the first time. In Argentina the word diet was used when someone had surgery and when they came home they were on some special diet... but never diet to lose weight. I grew up eating French bread and pastries, red meat and Italian food. the key to stay thin? WE WALKED EVERYWHERE. I think I walked 5 miles a day. Going to school, work, have fun downtown... we danced a lot... and I played tennis. My parents were not overweight either.
I think the principles of this diet is what the whole world should adopt. It's balanced. Mindful. And enjoyable. And portion control is truly the key to not overeat. It's easy to remember too which seems to be a key factor why people give up habits in the first place because there are too many steps involved. That gets in the way of daily life.
I’ve been struggling with anorexia for a few years, and I guess I can imagine myself living this way eventually, eating when I’m hungry and stopping when I’m full, not thinking about food throughout the day… it sounds too good to be true
Hello. I'm sorry to hear that you suffer from anorexia. It must be very hard to live with. I have patients who suffer from anorexia too and our main focus is first and foremost to try to find solutions so that they can eat enough nutrients to regain their energy and their health. It's the most important. Take care
Today for lunch I had the best most beautiful omelette I made. It was a keto recipe. I put everything down, pulled up to the table, sat correctly. And I ate like a lady with a fork and knife, very classy. Put them down between bites. It was enjoyable and so delicious
Just please be careful. I'm starting to see fast food restaurants popping up all over Europe, at least in the Netherlands, and more obesity. Before this happened in the Middle East, obesity, diabetes, and heart problems were virtually unknown. I have begun to control my portions and cut way back on the sugar. Though right now my body is tired and a little shaky from less sugar, I believe it will pay off in the long run. I'm 60 and am almost prediabetic now. Diabetes runs high in my family, and my mother did absolutely nothing to control hers. I can't tell you how many times we've had to take her to the doctor and the hospital (not cheap in the US) because of this.
This makes so much sense. I do think here in the USA we are inclined to snack too much. At least I do. I’m going to focus more on not doing that. Thank you for the content in this video and please keep making videos on how the French eat for health and pleasure.
Hello, thanks for watching! I'm working on a video about this topic. What to do to stop eating all the time. I have some ideas to share about this. Because it's not actually so much a question of willpower (or at least not only) it's also a question of macros, balancing blood sugar, etc. Have a nice day!
Thank you so much for these videos! I'm an American and can attest to overeating and poor quality cheap food leading to our obesity problems. Of course our infrastructure is not friendly for walking either. I've gained weight from moving back to the States from Germany and COVID lockdown, and I'm trying to reprogram my brain. I have a tendency to fear food because I fear weight gain, self worth, etc. It's really a rollercoaster. I've done strict keto, but I want to enjoy food not just eat. Your videos are so helpful. Thank you!
Thank you. I love your channel. We in America really need help. We lack a lot of culture given our history. Our parents and grandparents just went with the trends. Moved a lot, fell victim to marketing and convenience, etc.
Growing up in the US, and as an adult I have done so much research on this subject in cultures around the world and it didn’t take me very long to realize how horribly unhealthy our society is. Americans are some of the most ridiculous people on the planet. Born here and raised here, but sometimes I just want to sell everything I have and buy a one way ticket to France, or Spain, or Italy just so I can enjoy the better quality of life.
Hello. I think Italian people eat more in a traditional way. Whereas in France a lot of people tend to eat a lot of processed and crappy food very sugary. However adult people rarely snack and we generally stick to 3 meals a day. Have a nice day
As a French (celtic too) American, I naturally eat this way, and I've never been overweight. There are so few French people in America, about 3% that I really think our DNA and hormones are a bit different than others, and is maybe inspiring to stay healthy. I also choose to live in a part of the country that has Farmer's markets and fresh foods more easily available. Plus I walk for fun....
I don't think it's a question of dna, it is more a question of lifestyle, eating traditions, money, shopping and sports facilities, education at home and at school, metabolism, health in general, microbiom, even climate, etc. Some people are just lucky to live on the sunny side of life, others have to struggle a lot, often with depression and bad health as well. The problem is not unknown to the French. In 2024 almost half of the population in France is overweight. Ultra-processed food has entered the French lifestyle as well. Especially the younger generation doesn't know how to cook a proper meal and fast food is quite popular. If you're interested in the subject you can ask youtube to show you videos on "obésité en France" or on "perte de poids". The result of what you can watch is quite stunning.
The food quality is poor in the USA. And also in some places a car is required to get to places. America is really big with a lack of transportation in and between cities
Thank you for your videos- very informative! I try to eat well and take care of my micro biome, I would love to see meal ideas for children as my son is a very fussy eater and often eats differently from me. Merci! ❤
Do you have tips for those who cannot eat dairy products, and do not consume land animals (dairy-free pescatarian)? I only snack when I am hungry, usually on fruit, as I cannot wait as long to eat dinner as the french do.
Hello. If you eat fruit alone, it's not satiating. Plus you create a spike in blood sugar which, among other things, makes you hungry shortly afterwards. To keep You full longer you have to eat proteins with these fruits. Have a nice day!
Obesity is up especially around the young as they don’t eat the traditional way. It’s not just France but all countries. Italy is the lowest of the European Countries & their intake of fruit & veg is the highest!
I lived in Paris for 10 years and believe me...french people do get fat, the women stay at home mostly when they get overweight!.. or only venture outside after dark!..the men are different; they don't mind being overweight so much!
Yes, of course there is also obesity in France. I've heard 15% of the population. This concerns mostly people who have moved away from the traditional way of eating and consume processed products full of sugar, processed oils and crappy carbs. Unfortunately this concerns more and more people and many children. Thanks for watching!
Hello. Some Parisians yes and I see this regularly in my practice as a dietician. but this is not the case for all French people. moreover it should be noted as I say in the video that we also have public health problems linked to excess weight which is increasing like everywhere else. Thanks for watching.
Bullshit tier un peu. J'ai rarement vu une cuisine aussi grasse que la cuisine française, combien de tonnes de crème fraîche utilisés chaque année ? Un peu délirant
They eat .. or use to eat healthy fats... typically, fats were more olive oils, butter... along with cold oils like walnut, sweet almond ect... creme fraiche is a health fat, similar to sour cream ... these dairy's are protein's, help with stabilising glucose & feeling of satiety. My nan was norman french lived to her 90's died due to complication's of having her leg amputated caused by smoking.. my aunt also live into ripe old age, no complications... & just to add my husbands Australian mother lived to almost 100... She had a fairly similar lifestyle, Home cooked foods, gardening, walking & slow lifestyle.. small portions, protein's... not denying one's self of pleasure's ... small desserts, occasional treats such as a small piece of cake ect.. Eating healthy fats & good protein's ... we need more protein's as we age. Best source of protein's are of animal sources. No seed oils ... Animal fats/meat (this includes fish), butter, cream, seasonal eating, controlled portions, seeing beauty, healthy oils... enjoying life, .. its wholistic way of thinking. So in other words you don't really know. Well i do. Its because your eating higher in fat and moderate protein less carbs. Its called a ketogenic diet. You are also intermittent fasting like skipping breakfast.
You don't know either. You're just parroting what you want to be true. Typical french bf would be a piece of baguette with jam. Other Europeans eat real butter and drink full fat milk too, still the french are less obese. It's real sesonal food, walking, portion control AND social pressure (in the case of women).
There is breakfast, lunch, and dinner in all of these videos. All meals have significantly more carbs in them than a ketogenic would allow also. The key is not eating all of the processed seed oils.
The French are only second behind Germany on the European continent for their bread consumption. They eat bread every day, normally with most meals- they also enjoy a sweeter breakfast, they have a proper lunch, at least an hour - sat down properly to eat- and then an evening meal which is normally at least 2 courses. They normally have water/ tea/coffee or wine for drinks. There’s definitely no fasting or Keto going on! Oh and the portions aren’t gargantuan!
The same in Spain. Real food, lots of walking and always eating seated and enjoying the food, never feeling guilty about what you eat.
Yes, indeed it's the same in Spain. Thanks for watching, have a nice evening!

Thanks. I'm curious how many times do French people usually have meals a day?( traditionally ) 2 times is more? Or 3 times is more ?
Hello. We have 3 meals a day. Breakfast at 7-8, lunch at 12 or 1PM and dinner at 7-8 PM. Besides, Children have a snack at 4PM. Thanks for watching!

If you go outside of Paris in France, you will see a lot of overweight women.... lol
😊
Blame the ubiquitous American fast-food joints and culture on the young, sadly... back-to-front baseball caps etc.😖
The French eat and drink far less sugar.
In fact unfortunately French people eat more and more sugar. I've noticed this in my dietitian practice. Have a nice day
Cause they are always on diet
