So much fun to watch your in depth reviews of GI Joe. They were such a huge part of my childhood. In fact, I started collecting my old carded figures I owned and new in box vehicles. Hope you dont run out of items to review any time soon! :)

great review. I remember Zoids by Tomy. That explains the similar mechanisms.

I can understand the retail price- these are complex pieces with several parts and a motor so they're going to cost extra. But you also pointed out why they didn't sell too well. They're an interesting novelty item but too complex and too expensive.
Standing the figures is also a problem because you're tacking a tremendous weight onto their back, throwing off the center of gravity. This also presents a huge problem if these characters were actually wearing these packs- they would not be able to move with them on. Standing would probably be between difficult and next to impossible. They might even snap someone's spine like a toothpick. I believe Ghostbusters proton packs were said to be around 25-30 pounds(at least in the story), those were carried by men not exactly in top shape. A trained soldier could handle that fine. Carrying someone on your back, that's heavier, a soldier can still do it, but will eventually strain them depending on the weight of the person. These, given their size relative to a figure and what they are, are probably 300+ pounds if they were actual machines.
I know GI Joe has a lot of leeway in the fantasy and sci-fi area, I won't pretend it's totally realistic but I think even these strain allowances for disbelief a bit. The same was true for the talking figures that had the large backpacks, I could see Overkill holding one but the humans might have issues.
That said, the idea behind them is neat as far as action figure accessories go. Maybe if they had come packed with a figure they would have sold better.

    Hi Kevin,
Amazing review as always. but this one had a special taste, somehow you gave it a very cute and nostalgic childhood feeling, congratulations and hope you do it also some other times. Maybe it was the musics? The toys themselves? Who knows? Probably you do... :)
In the other hand, once I saw you replied to a viewer advising him about re-pro stickers. I am considering to buy a big amount of them and you mentioned the quality difference between cobrastilkers and rattlerepros. Please, could you
specify where did you find this difference and what is the outcome of both once they are placed?
    Thank you.
