Great review! I recently discovered another 6 action packs in addition to the original 8. The Cobra Machine Gun Nest, Cobra Twin Missile Radar, Dreadnok Battle Axe, Action Force Double Machine Gun, Action Force Mine Sweeper, and Action Force Mortar Launcher. I found a packaging card at a toy fair.
I think the reason these didn't sell very ell, was cuz they cost the same as a Joe if i remember. And for me getting a new fig was way cooler than getting one of these.
Having walked many miles as a soldier with a heavy pack, I can sympathize with that leaning forward posture. When we needed to have a vertical posture we would take a knee. Have you tried positioning the figures on on knee?
Feels like the Cobra set is more fun from a kids play perspective. that drill and a technoviper make a ton of sense. their gimmicks aren't terrible as toys.
Great review! I had forgotten about these. I can see a potential problem with the sling, its articulation points, look like they can potentially split. What price do they fetch pn the aftermarket?
You're right, the slings on both GI Joe and Cobra packs are easily split. The 1987 Action Packs are about $20 sealed on card and $5 loose each. The 1988 series are $25 carded and $7 loose (I think they're harder to find because the first series didn't sell well).

Thanks for reminding me! Those are the 1988 "series II" Action Packs. I will cover those (and the 5 Vehicle Packs) early next year.

Great review! I'm thinking the pom-pom would make for a laser-viper squad leader, very similar.
the earth bor looks like a r2d2
I had the most fun with the pom-pom gun oftern pretending it was like a flight pod using it as an antigravity pack

The cobra packs look way better then the joe packs
Gawd, I always cringed at these when I was a kid. Heh. Awesome find!
Great follow up!
I can't remember. Did these all come in one pack or singles?
They were sold individually.
Finally Cobra can beat those stupid Joes by drilling evil holes into the ground mohahaha!
Am think that Hasbro should make special figures for these back pack too or reincarnate some cobra troopers too because they don't have back packs ...
