    I think never being online is a trade off a lot of people are ok with in exchange for free games.

      People are being spoilt with online gaming. Just stop playing online. Easy

    I have a modded switch, and I purchased a mig switch. Personally having a hardware implementation of a cart ripper that will allow me to play switch games on emulators far in to the future, regardless of whether or not I have a working switch, is enough reason for me to have purchased the dumper. I got the bundle that comes with two carts as well, mostly because having carts alongside the dumper can only be handy, and I don't hate the idea of leaving all of my original carts in one spot to prevent losing them. These are just tools, and since they're the first they come at a premium, and if you're interested in preservation I think you'll find that having tools like these is the best way to guarantee longterm access to your library.

    • @rolux4853
      @rolux4853 Місяць тому

      Why do you need to rip carts when your switch is modded?
      Why do you need real cartridges at all if you have a modded switch?

    I have a regular and a modded switch and a huge physical switch library. I have been using my mig switch for rotating between 5 games (jrpg + mario kart + smash + metroid, etc. ) . I live in japan and travel alot and bring my switch to work, so I like having the mig switch instead of cartridges.
    I only use my modded switch to run a modded smash bros for practicing.
    The only issue I have is that I have been having a weird error on my switch requiring me to restart the whole system while using it. It has only happened twice so far, but I think it has something to do with the switch getting to a low battery power and the cartridge using more power than a regular cartridge uses..
    I also think there is a lot of value for the dumper for running switch games on an emulator or having my backups on my computer for transfer to any modded switch.
    I think there is a use case for the mig switch that doesn't match most people's lifestyle or intended use, that meets my needs. If I keep receiving the error I may stop using it altogether

    Lol Nintendo "online"... Their garbage servers and moderation make me think that something which deters me from connecting is actually a feature, not a bug

      Feel the same way about the Nintendo ds it is so easy to mod and get an Sd card instead of buying an r4 card even though I still get that people dont want to mod it. It is still gonna take a really long time something like mug switch is gonna be worth it modding a switch is also really hard if you don’t have an old one

      @@raedmakhmalji7953 the V2 switch is pretty easy to mod. It's when you start trying to mod an OLED is when you should really start shitting bricks. The lite is kinda difficult only because the flex cables they sell with the chips are ass. That said, I'm just gonna say F' it and stick to emulation. I get better framerates and better visual quality that way anyway.

      😂😂😂. I bought the original Mig Switch. Got tired of waiting and sent my Switch to this like guy who did some stuff to it. I received my version 2 a couple days ago. Haven’t even touched it.

  • @L0tsen
    @L0tsen 2 місяці тому +4

    Edit:I missed that you talked about the new version
    Around 3:25 they made a new version of the cartridge with a button to switch games so no more swapping in and out.
    Edit end.
    But I fully understand the rest of your criticism. I think devices like the MIG switch will be more needed in the future for preserving switch games. Atleast for the patched consoles.

    Ok, hear me out. They are looking at mass used identification keys. So the keys of pirated copies would ping in 100's of consoles. It's safe to say they can identify that key because of it's mass usage. They also probably have moles that monitor the keys being posted online to these communities. There is basically only a couple spots to get the dumps from and they are well aware of them. Whether it's worth it? I 512GB card full of your go to games all in one place without card swapping is definitely worth it, especially if you jump around from game to game a lot. Another route is to get dumps from a game rental service. This way they probably flag those games as rental copies and they aren't spread across the internet.

    The switch on top is nice it should have been like that from the beginning that being said you can also use a multi cartridge dock with a button to switch games and you wouldn't have to physically remove cartridges anymore

    This is what I’m doing.
    My dumper just arrived.
    I’m buying pre-owned switch games from GameStop, dumping them, and then returning them for a refund to use in emulators only: NOT actually online with the flash cart.
    I’m saving money, not using the games on Nintendo’s services, and backing them up.

    As far as I've seen, where I live modding my Switch with a modchip would cost $120 and I'd have to ship it through four or five countries to some Etsy seller in Luxembourg. But I'm just gonna hold off on flashcarts still since there will be cheap Mig Switch knockoffs coming out at some point. Or, better yet, I'll gain the skills to install the modchip myself, which is definitely possible. Modding the console is much preferable to some flashcart. For now I'll just make do with my modded Wii U and 3DS.

    When you mod a switch is there something simple to grab the games from like FBI on 3ds or homebrew? So you can download games from an app rather than searching amd skowering shady sites verociously...?

    Good video. As to whether anyone has previously raised the points you've covered, well, they definitely have. SpawnWave, RGT85, Good Vibes Gaming, and Modern Vintage Gamer have definitely raised all these concerns, to name a few. It's the reason I'll no longer entertain buying Switch games used. Still, good to get the information out there.

    Tbh...in spite of the headache they gave me, I technically got them for free.99, cause they tried to scam me & i caught them in real time 😂 (the retailer, not the manufacture).
    They didn't send the combo (which was promised) included the dumper, which supposedly was the cause for the 'delay' on the order...but ultimately wasn't legitimately fullfilled, it's inoperability was their downfall.
    I got plans for them tho heh, it's good to network 😉.

    If you only play offline then the MIG Switch is 100x better and more simple than any modchip.
    You can buy a brand new switch oled and pirate games you play offline and still play online with games you buy.

    Might make for a nice collectors item
    And when push comes to shove, you can have your librsry backed up with certs even.
    (Since it requires a hacked switch, its silly tbh)
    Good for preservation.
    Bad for piracy, as it screws honest customers
    The v2 is nice(r)
    The v1 a joke

    this video actually convinced me to buy one lol
    my reasoning
    i have a launch switch that's modded, but i never play it, because i want to be able to go online and use cloud saves to switch between my switch lite and switch oled (both unmodded)
    i own a lot of games but don't want to carry them around
    so a mig switch with the 10 games I regularly play with friends seems ideal.
    will probably get the dumper as well, even though i have a modded switch already it just seems quicker

    • @TheModSmith
      @TheModSmith  2 місяці тому

      This is a fair use case to be fair, although if you have a modded switch already I’d definitely save yourself £70 and use your console for dumping games, it’s not much slower.

    Get a Steam Deck instead and run the games better or just mod it. If you find the right "tool". The issue with modding is finding someone who will take your switch and not run off with it...what would you do then? Nothing and you know why you wouldn't report it lol. It's a trust thing. A potentially expensive trust thing.
