From a piracy standpoint. Instead of putting all your pirated games on a large 256gb SD card. Have 5x 16gb sd cards, breakup the games based on alphabetical order across all 5 SD cards. Much easier to insert the game you want to play into the MS and cycle.

From what I understood, þe dumper is necessary if you're not hacking your own switch. And if you've hacked your own switch, you might as well not use þe mig.
There's no reason why there can't be a pc program to create the necessary files from a downloaded NSP or an XCI file. I believe eventually it'll happen.
One big problem for this product is it can only play the game has physical copy, those digital only games are not palyable because they don't have the second file to be verified.
Assuming that is a big mistake imo. Last time I check was on the announcement of the product and no where it was stated that you got both when you bought the card, there were 2 different product and you have to buy them separately. Its just something I saw when I was looking to buy one of theses but they were already sold out.
Carts are individually signed. This will never run homebrew as is. You will need to hack the Switch first, but at that point you won't need a flashcart.
If you have a version 1 switch (Which you probably do) you can easily mod it and dump the game cards straight from the modded switch. You don't even need to install a mod chip in the switch version 1. There are youtube guides explaining everything about how to mod your switch.
The issue with this device is that, people will start backing up their used games and then selling them on EBay, Mercari or any other resell website. Then you will hear Nintendo banning people’s accounts left and right.

I can’t believe there’s not an index screen to load games from. Even if you had what you need out of the box, to have to take it in and out to cycle through games that way is more annoying to me than having all the separate carts. If I want to play game 10 I could just pop in that cart…or pop the might in and out 10 times?! 🤣

I got it towards the end of March and had to make a decision on whether it would be worth to order the dumper and wait another 2-3 months to get it. For a couple reasons, I ended up deciding to sell it and using the money to get my Switch modded. No regrets so far.
I ordered a dumper and a cart from the Mig store months ago and just today got an email that it's being shipped. My order was placed after they changed what they were originally saying about the dumper being included with the cart.
From my understanding, a reseller on reddit said they got the cartridge but not the dumper because the people didnt have enough parts to make the dumpers.

You're correct. Initially it was both together. Then almost right away with popularity it was changed to sold separately. Unfortunate for initial investment, but Even when I was getting modchip for original Xbox. It was dicey with what you might receive from resellers. Mr.modchip served me right for og Xbox & then the Wiid chip years later. I couldn't imagine purchasing nowadays.

Well you got it so it's not a scam 😆, but seriously, i follow the MIG switch development very closely and the decision to sell the mig switch and the dumper seperately was if i remember correctly already a few weeks in. I wanted to preorder one with dumper myself and waited a few weeks to see if any reports came out it was a scam, but as soon as i was somewhat assured it wasn't a scam i ordered both but indeed by that time the were sold seperately or as a bundle with a bit of discount. Also i was kept up to date by my reseller at least once a month, but they could not get the migswitch and dumper either on time, latest time i heard now for the both is somewhere in may (fingers crossed) but the do slowly receive the orders from the mig switch company now.
Once MLP dropped news the dumper wasn’t included, I promptly cancelled my preorder. And seeing how folks still haven’t received this thing, I’m glad I did.

This looks like an interesting way to downsize the amount of space my switch and games take. as soon as I saw the game switch mechanism, I realized how stupid it was
initially they were sold together for $80 total preorder, but costs were higher than expected and they split them because of limited part supply. People should've gotten an email from their reseller and could cancel if they wanted. what they did is reasonable but it is a price increase so you couldve canceled with your reseller. If you chose a bad reseller, you couldve disputed the charge too.
This what i did it still cost me money but i have all the games every release with dlc, so first buy storage cart from nintendo and you need to fill up a form also digtal signature second buy the cart reader that nintendo has third buy a coversion to switch. 1Download gamefile in your pc or laptop 2 run switch converter program 3 insert the cart reader with the empty switch cart 4 just copy, cut or drag and drop the converted file into the cart 5 put the cart inside your switch and it will auto install the game and also dlc will be install just wait for the install to be done and now you can play. Sorry i just edit my comment by the way

Thank you for the review, I haven't heard of the Mig Switch so this was informative. I agree with you, I think in time the Home Brew community can create this experience for much less than the current $130 ($64.99 (Mig Switch) $64.99 (Mig Switch Dumper) ) + SD card. My hope is the mig switch dumper (USB to switch game) and computer software will be easier, ripping the game to SD card and then SD to the converter Switch cartridge for far less than this experience. For now, I will keep swapping my physical cartridges when I need to.
I'm planning on getting one to use with the rips of the games that I already own. still a lot of fair points in your video. it's way more convenient to use the original cart and not have to switch a ton of times.

It's useless to me. I want something that can turn your digital purchases into a physical holding the sd card. So no need to format or re-download if using on a different switch. That means jailbreaking or a mod chip is now the only solution it seems

Is that a nintendo console you're working with? Then.. you are.. what you're afraid to admit. Anyway, I think part of the reason the community doesn't care is because it doesn't allow for running custom programs because it's not breaking the switch' encryption at all. It just repeats the exact bytes that are stored on an actual switch cartridge. This is purely a backup/piracy/both device. Nothing more nothing less. And that doesn't really get the community devs excited. There are a few reasons why xbox one and newer microsoft consoles haven't been jailbroken. But one of the most important ones imho, is that Microsoft gave the community devs what they wanted by adding Developer mode. Sure, it doesn't allow for piracy, but that's not the point for a lot of the community devs either.
I am not even joking I just received My Dumper yet no Mig switch card yet or shipping notification, so I have the dumper but no Mig switch to use it with. Ordered both at the same time from their store
at 05:15 it clearly states that you need a hacked Switch in order to use the NXdumptool, it also says LITERALLY in step 1 to launch it from Homebrew menu. If you already have homebrew, then what on earth do you need this for?? You are taking your SD card out of its normal slot, and putting it into a gamecard instead to achieve the EXACT same thing. Pointless.
I can see value on this for people who have 2+ Switches, if your kid has one and you have another one and you're both trying to play TotK on launch, which, honestly, should be the default instead of having to buy the same game twice.
This is one feature that Xbox does that I wish Nintendo did. I buy a game on my account with Xbox and then I can play it on any one I'm logged into, then the one I have set as my "home" console anyone on that Xbox can play it as well, even both online in co-op. such a great move for families with kiddo's.

It’s a feature as it is on Xbox, and the Nintendo support website explains how to set it up. I share my digital copies of Switch games with my son. His Switch is setup as my Primary Switch, and he can play my games with his own account, and I can play the same game simultaneously on my Switch with my own account. It even works for multiplayer games like Splatoon 3. The only requirement is that my Switch has to be connected to the Internet in order for me to be able to launch the game, so Nintendo can check I own the license to play the game on a Switch that’s not setup as my Primary Switch. But once the game is launched I can disconnect from the Internet if I have to (to play outside, for example). His Switch doesn’t need an Internet connection to launch my game, though. The MIG Switch can’t do that for physical games because the license file format is different for physical and digital copies of the games. If you do that with a physical copy of the game using the MIG Switch, you get banned. As much as I dislike the all-digital future, that’s why I only but digital copies of Switch and Xbox games. So I can share them (and play multiplayer) with my son without having to buy 2 copies of the same game. You can’t do that with physical games. Not even with a MIG Switch. So all-digital for me. 🤷♂️

I've said this since they started showing off the product, but the Mig Switch feels like a prototype at best. The biggest issue is the lack of a simple button to switch games, having to remove and reinsert the cart over and over again will wear out your cart slot. Combine this with the fact that the dumper wasn't ready for launch, and it just feels like this thing should have been delayed 6 months to build a better version with a button (which by the way, someone modded a Mig Switch and added a button themselves and it was apparently easy to do), and then of course the dumper would have been ready as well.
review as a paper weight: Terrible also. Light weight and small. Wind from window or fan blows the paper away it is sitting on due to weight. After it's blown away, hard to find due to size.

I was under the impression once you loaded your physical games on it, it would be easy access to them so i wouldn’t have to switch cartridges. Sounds like more work

Thank you for the review, I haven't heard of the Mig Switch so this was informative. I agree with you, I think in time the Home Brew community can create this experience for much less than the current $130 ($64.99 (Mig Switch) $64.99 (Mig Switch Dumper) ) + SD card. My hope is the mig switch dumper (USB to switch game) and computer software will be easier, ripping the game to SD card and then SD to the converter Switch cartridge for far less than this experience. For now, I will keep swapping my physical cartridges when I need to.
I'm planning on getting one to use with the rips of the games that I already own. still a lot of fair points in your video. it's way more convenient to use the original cart and not have to switch a ton of times.
What would be really cool is if you could get a home brew app for it to play movies and TV shows on you're Switch

it wont happen, software on the mig switch must be signed by Nintendo
It's useless to me. I want something that can turn your digital purchases into a physical holding the sd card. So no need to format or re-download if using on a different switch. That means jailbreaking or a mod chip is now the only solution it seems

Anyway, I think part of the reason the community doesn't care is because it doesn't allow for running custom programs because it's not breaking the switch' encryption at all. It just repeats the exact bytes that are stored on an actual switch cartridge.
This is purely a backup/piracy/both device. Nothing more nothing less. And that doesn't really get the community devs excited.
There are a few reasons why xbox one and newer microsoft consoles haven't been jailbroken. But one of the most important ones imho, is that Microsoft gave the community devs what they wanted by adding Developer mode. Sure, it doesn't allow for piracy, but that's not the point for a lot of the community devs either.
@RGT 85 You can dump games with a modded switch 😅 and they put them on the sd card in the mig switch to use on a un modded switch

Yes. So it's not advisable to put too many games on one SD card, but instead to use multiple smaller ones.

you don't need a dumper. if you have a hacked switch you can use that as a dumper.

at 05:15 it clearly states that you need a hacked Switch in order to use the NXdumptool, it also says LITERALLY in step 1 to launch it from Homebrew menu. If you already have homebrew, then what on earth do you need this for?? You are taking your SD card out of its normal slot, and putting it into a gamecard instead to achieve the EXACT same thing. Pointless.
I can see value on this for people who have 2+ Switches, if your kid has one and you have another one and you're both trying to play TotK on launch, which, honestly, should be the default instead of having to buy the same game twice.
This is one feature that Xbox does that I wish Nintendo did. I buy a game on my account with Xbox and then I can play it on any one I'm logged into, then the one I have set as my "home" console anyone on that Xbox can play it as well, even both online in co-op. such a great move for families with kiddo's.
@@ThePlthompsonThis can already be done on Switch. It works exactly the same as it does on Xbox and PlayStation. And it’s not a trick or a hack. It’s a feature as it is on Xbox, and the Nintendo support website explains how to set it up.
I share my digital copies of Switch games with my son. His Switch is setup as my Primary Switch, and he can play my games with his own account, and I can play the same game simultaneously on my Switch with my own account. It even works for multiplayer games like Splatoon 3.
The only requirement is that my Switch has to be connected to the Internet in order for me to be able to launch the game, so Nintendo can check I own the license to play the game on a Switch that’s not setup as my Primary Switch. But once the game is launched I can disconnect from the Internet if I have to (to play outside, for example). His Switch doesn’t need an Internet connection to launch my game, though.
The MIG Switch can’t do that for physical games because the license file format is different for physical and digital copies of the games. If you do that with a physical copy of the game using the MIG Switch, you get banned.
As much as I dislike the all-digital future, that’s why I only but digital copies of Switch and Xbox games. So I can share them (and play multiplayer) with my son without having to buy 2 copies of the same game.
You can’t do that with physical games. Not even with a MIG Switch. So all-digital for me. 🤷♂️
@@ThePlthompsonAs a matter of fact, you can change your Primary Switch from Nintendo eShop as many times as you’d like, unless you do it from a computer. In which case you can only do it twice a year.
With Xbox you can only change your “home” console 5 times a year.

I've said this since they started showing off the product, but the Mig Switch feels like a prototype at best. The biggest issue is the lack of a simple button to switch games, having to remove and reinsert the cart over and over again will wear out your cart slot. Combine this with the fact that the dumper wasn't ready for launch, and it just feels like this thing should have been delayed 6 months to build a better version with a button (which by the way, someone modded a Mig Switch and added a button themselves and it was apparently easy to do), and then of course the dumper would have been ready as well.
they needed capital to fund manufacturing, its not as simple waiting 6 months

review as a paper weight: Terrible also. Light weight and small. Wind from window or fan blows the paper away it is sitting on due to weight. After it's blown away, hard to find due to size.
I just received my migswitch and i ordered it january 4th.
I ordered a combo too RGT, I figure the demand was too high for the devs to meet hence the long wait. Haven't even gotten my email saying it's been shipped yet.
