🚨 UPDATE 🚨 I finally received the MIG Switch portion of my order. No word on the dumper. Still have not received a response from the shop owner. The package came from “EDGY CLOTHING CO”. My video still stands. A lack of communication despite requesting a refund is unacceptable business practice, but I’m glad to see some people might start receiving what they have paid for. Thanks everyone for watching!
Aparently what I've noticed is that they try their hardest not to leave any trails of customer interactions and also any trails of sales from where they actually are to be on the safer side. The cart and dumper will show up eventually to whoever ordered early. I heard of someone who has gotten both cart and dumper, just a guy I ran into who happened to play nintendo. So far it's available as far as their direct website and is doing so in the best way possible not to attract too much attention. Their US website for files are currently under fire as of recently and although that's happening they had that website separate for a reason, so that there is no tie to anything else related to their company or products.
I think it is safe to say that the Switch will eventually become fully opened a la DS flashcards. But right now, I honestly just wanted the MIG to come with the dumper so that I could have a full backup of my library, I'm not interested in the piracy aspect of the product, at least not for now. Having said that, I don't think we've seen the final form of the MIG Switch just yet, there will probably be other products or revisions with better quality of life features in the future. Right now though MIG sans dumper is utterly useless to me. Thank you for the video explaining the product, brother. God bless you.
I think you're right! I'm sure this will open the floodgates for evolutions of this existing form-factor. Excited for what's to come! Thanks for watching! 😊
Great video! When I first heard about the mig I went looking for reviews. Several reviewers only speculated what could happen when playing online. You went out and did it! Thanks for putting your hardware, time, (and tastebuds) on the line to answer all the burning questions! For me, I’ll be holding out until cart dumping is more accessible. I’m sure we’ll probably hear more about the long term risks as well. Keep us updated!
I bought a couple of the Mig switches not for me, personally I own all of my games digitally, but with three kiddos who love their switches this makes my life so much easier by being able to allow them to play games on their own devices and not needing to buy three games everytime. Just 1 physical and put it in two migs for my other kiddos.
We dont own digital games we just rent in odd sort of way. California had to make a law forcing gaming companies to tell the truth about purchasing digital games.
Remember that the mass banning doesn't happen until the issue became a common issue so for now you're okay. Nintendo will only mass ban if the situation got out of hands meaning if more people attempt that same situation. Another reason why they hadn't started the banning was cause it's not just the certificate that they look at but the connection location as well so even if you attempt it with the same certificate on different consoles and accounts, you're still using the same proxy connection (internet connection) and to them that means you're just testing a feature which hasn't violate anything illegal yet.
Hmm.. Yeah I guess after some research I couldn't find any definitive answers. If I was Nintendo "testing" dual cart certificates versus maliciously using dual cart certificates wouldn't be something to differentiate "wrong is wrong" if I was Nintendo. Thanks for watching! 😊
This will definitely get you banned if you're using pirated roms. When using your own dumped game on multiple consoles it might be fine, but I wouldn't rely on it. With a small amount of people using the same cartridge it might be fine because after all people might buy some card, dump it and sell it later and if Nintendo issues bans for this, that would screw the new original card owner aswell, who has not done anything wrong.
I think nintendo is unlikely to mass ban people based on key usage because of how many false positives will likely get banned, people who buy legit second hand copies that have already been dumped. As for the product, my biggest concern is the wear on the cartridge slot... The game selection procedure could easily cause you to cycle the slot mechanism dozens or hundreds of times more than you otherwise would have
I just got mine earlier today. I ripped a cartridge using the dumper, tested it on Yuzu, and tested it on the MIG Switch itself. It all works. I'm starting to now backup my collection so I can leave my physical copies at home while I go on trips. 48 games preserved in my library: forever physical, baby!
From what site did you order? I ordered a cartridge and a dumper from the mig switch site and it has been months with no update I'm considering contacting them to cancel my orders and if that doesn't work I will have to take it up with my bank
@frankgarcia9045 From the US MIGSwitch store. It took a while since the Dumper was on wave 1 and the Card itself was already on wave 2, but a few months later and it arrived.
@@Leoncroi so you have already received both the dumper and the cartridge? Well guess I’ll have to keep waiting… I ordered both but probably going to be a long time before I get them I’ll cancel them if another flash cartridge is introduced to the market I guess

It happened to me (or at least it's what it seems like), i bought a used Link's Awakening hd from CEX and after playing the game for the first time, i updated the fw to 18.0, played again and a day later it gave me the error 2181-4008 "The use of online services on this console is currently restricted by Nintendo." So yeah, people now have to be very careful from who and where they get used copies from. The funny thing is... This is good for Nintendo since people might buy more new games from retail stores insted of the used market because of fear of getting banned
@koriegrant3827 in that scenario I do think it’s highly unlikely since there’s nothing happening to “phone home” so that scenario should be fine - but there’s always a risk since there’s a lot of unknowns even after my testing. Those were my results as of now. But what happens when there are 10,000 MIG Switches in the world and everyone is doing this?
@@ScatteredBrain so hear me out then 😂 users may aswell hack there switch, put android on it, use yuzu emu and then they don’t have to worry about being banned ect
The error issue is due to identical certificates. Also, it's mathematically impossible to fake keys. You could self-sign, but that has its own set of issues and would likely still need a hacked switch. As for ban chance; there are a couple of reasons why Nintendo would not want to ban people in cases like this: 1. First and foremost, there is the first sale doctrine in the US. This states that you are free to use a physical product your purchase however you please after purchase. Technically, Nintendo could ban you from their servers, but it gets really deep into grey water, as if you personally are using two instances of the same copy, that doesn't actually violate any DMCA laws, at least to my knowledge. You are allowed one archival copy. To say nothing of the possibility of both switches utilizing the same copy simultaneously. 2. Legitimate users are not Nintendo's target. They want to ban pirated copies, pirates, and people who are likely to be abusive on their servers. Banning people who just use dumped carts doesn't really help them much, even if they don't want dump carts to be used. It just vilifies them and lends credibility to the people they're going after. At the end of the day, Nintendo needs good will among their users. 3. There is no way for Nintendo to distinguish the legitimate copies from the illegitimate, which can open up legal trouble if they ban someone for doing something they were not. This could even go so far as to cause punitive damages should the victim or victims feel so aggrieved as to push their luck. 4. Frankly, the most important reason, is that it's just not worth their time. There are people mass downloading files from their servers they don't have legal access to, and people changing their avatars to inappropriate photos. They've, for lack of other terms, got bigger fish to fry.
I’d only consider this if they fix the game cycling. Having to reinsert the cartridge each time you want to change games is too inconvenient and concerning for the longevity of the cartridge slot mechanism. If it at least had a button at the top of the cartridge to cycle through so it doesn’t need to be ejected constantly it would be more appealing.
Isn't that true with literally every other game format medium? I really don't think this is a problem we're able to avoid, digital-only consoles are the closest we have to solving it, but then we run into the issue of "Will I still own my games if the online service shuts down in the future?"
Yea I think the game cycling is unfortunately not very feasible if you planned to backup and carry around more than 10 or 15 games on the flash cart Thanks for watching! 😊
I think they sell a 3rd party accessory which connects to the back of the switch and lets you insert multiple cartridges. Additionally, with the push of a button, the accessory cycles through whatever carts you have inserted. So if you combine the Mig switch with this accessory, you'll be able to cycle through the games inside that one cart without having to physically pop out the cart each time.
@@PrimeTFNo, with "normal" physical media you only have to swap once for every time you want to play a game. With this one if you have 10 games on it for example, and are done playing game nr2 on the cart, and want to play game nr1, you have to cycle through the other 8 games on the cart by ejecting and re inserting it every time, so could be 8 "insertions" for 1 game selection
Yep! There will always be a risk. I am guessing the Switch will live on for quite some time, even after Nintendo's next generation is released - but one day when those servers inevitably go offline, there'll be a little to no risk! Thanks for watching! 😊
Modded Hardware never sent me an email about the dumper not being included, despite preordering (Jan 3rd) before Scattered Brain (Jan 10th) and still haven’t received any sort of contact aside from the initial order confirmation.
Got the cart and the dumper the other day. It didn't come in the same packaging as yours. The cart and the dumper just came in bubble wrap packaging. Loving it though. Tears of the Kingdom at 60 FPS with FSR is lovely. Looking forward to dumping my whole library and enjoying the games at a higher quality.
Those that use these to copy thier games and sell them is a double edge sword. That being you can also bann yourself when you load the same game. So it's in thei own interest not to do this as well.
I think its more tragic for some innocent person who doesn't even know what a flash cart is - but yea you're right. I mean there's also a chance someone doing this isn't even thinking about repercussions! Thanks for watching! 😊
Probably not a good idea to ban, this forces the user to turn to piracy even more, you’re riding on the user wanting online multiplayer so bad they would buy new system but they would most likely just turn to online roms
Excellent video! My only concern is if Nintendo logs the reader speed of cartdrige, that with microSD is different from the original ones. It is the only verification that they can run (always talking about playing with your own games).
Without knowing for certain, my guess is that a cartridge speed couldn't be a reliable indicator for "legitimate" or "pirated" cartridges. Cartridge speeds probably have a variable read speeds especially depending on the state of the cartridge. If the cartridge contacts are degraded I'm sure that would take a bit longer. But even still there are probably other forms of verification Nintendo can check for legitimate cartridges. Thanks for watching! 😊
4:57 technically you can use a certificate from any game and it will work... BUT the certificate is tied to the game and though Nintendo doesnt ban for this mismatch yet, they could easily ban for it later
The worst part about the whole "reinsert over and over to cycle games" part is that we already have official support for multiple games to boot off the same cart without doing this. Idk how popular it was, but I never hear from people about how unique it was for Pikmin 1+2, a first party title, to have both games be launched off the same cart. Why couldn't MIG do the same?
Fun fact: a Hasbro game collection did this before Pikmin, containing septate apps for Monopoly, Trivial Persuit, and Risk. I am just speaking from experience, there might be even more that came before that
Trying to connect online from the same WiFi network for some reason does not allow you to play online even with authentic copies of the game from my personal experience with smash brothers ultimate
Hey scattered, I ordered this catridge from modded hardware as well on the day he launched it, i was order 86 and he only got 50-60 dumpers on the first wave, and i JUST got mine monday from him. he doesnt scam but muich rather he just sucks as communication as i tried reaching out to him several times.
He saw my video and emailed me. I tried to get some clarification and asked some follow up questions, it’s been 2 weeks and no response. There’s something fishy going on here, but I’m glad you got what you ordered. Thanks for watching!
I think you should buy physical whenever possible. if nintendo bans your switch and account, you're only out the cost of a switch, but if you're banned with all digital, you've wasted thousands of dollars potentially. you can keep your game cases in a bin in the basement. also if you don't like a game, you can sell it, meaning you can recoup costs, and you don't have to download every game to your SD card, which can get expensive if you have a large collection of games. nintendo digital downloads also tend to be more expensive than a used physical game.
Also smart idea to keep them inside their cases with the original manuals if they have them. Complete copies sell for way higher later. I’m learning this the hard way and resellers are emptying my wallet and laughing at me. I’m sorry I didn’t treat you well dog chewed copy of Pokemon Soul Silver.
I had to dispute the charge for Mod My Hardware as well. My other issue is wear and tear on the cartridge slot, reinserting the Mig Switch multiple times to select a game is dubious
I was planning on getting this to play some modded games but it's starting to look like the only real way for me to do this is a hacked switch and my switch is to mew to hack without a hard to install mod chip
The reason why i haven't bought one is exactly two reasons..... Swapping games in the mig switch requires you to eject the game then reinsert to play the desired game and if you have a big library like i do over 30 games, you have to do that very consistently.....if i have to do that i might as well just get the physical copy and insert that instead of wearing down my switch card slot just to get to game 15 in my library....its not feasible....an easy solution is to make a small button on the mig cartridge and press it to cycle through the games, or just create a small menu and you pick and choose the title you wish to play..... The last one is i don't have a hacked switch, so the dumper is an absolute necessity for me and if it's impossible for me to get then its not worth getting since i dont plan on hacking any of my switches any time soon just to be able to extract the roms and certificates i need, i have to have a hacked switch and like i said before i dont plan on hacking my switches any time soon.... This will sadly be a pass for me....
SAME! But it's really not so bad. The cartridge slot is definitely built to be super sturdy and survive hundreds of thousands of cart swaps. But still, can be a pain if you've got a massive Switch library on the MIG Switch! Thanks for watching! 😊
I received my MiG Switch v2 and the dumper. I ordered March of 2023. Took a long time. But anyways, I was able to put 3 physical Games in the mig switch v2, cycle through by pushing the button. And the games plays fine. So I left the MiG switch V2 in my Switch while on the dock. The next day when I turned woke the Switch from sleep, there was a notification that a Game just had an Update… one of the games on the MiG Switch was not detected on the Switch. It was the last game I played “Mario Kart 8”. I checked the SD card on the PC, the games is still on there. I tested my original Mario Kart 8 on the Switch, it just works. But when I put the MiG Switch V2 back in, it detected Mario Kart 8 but also said that the game “May Need an Update before playing”.. after I saw that I put the original physical Mario Kart 8 in my Switch, the message didn’t show.. I tried the MiG Switch V2 again this time offline, the Switch wanted to connect online to update Mario Kart 8 before it could load the game.
What I am most interested in is dumping a japanese cart that has a fan translation, modding that dump and playing the translated game, without needing to mod my system. Can anyone report having success with this?
I have the dumper but no MigSwitch…..honestly I got tired of waiting and modded my OLED and lite. The dumper is cool, you run games directly off it in yuzu for PC or steamdeck
hey some quick things that i think you may have covered but i may have missed, can you get downloaded games, also can you get update files, and can you get DLC files,
Popping the cartridge in and out is a terrible drawback, one reason people want to store all their games in one place is to not wear out the contacts on their carts or the cart reader. This seems like it will cause excessive wear and tear, I would rather dump all my games to the internal MicroSD and just boot them from there
I’m sure there’s workarounds, but given that there’s rumor and discussing about being banned even with legitimate dumps, is it worth the risk? If you’re planning on using your switch 100% offline permanently, then sure I’m sure there’s a way to! Thanks for watching! 😊
Up to you! I put in a 1tb (linked in video description) because I knew I’d want to backup all of my physical carts on there which is about 15 games but I wanted to make sure I leave room for more games in the future. Games are going to be 16gb or less each so you can probably figure out how many games you’d want to store based on that. Thanks for watching!
Hi! So, if I play only offline (p.e Hogwarts Legacy) and someone is also using the game (the same game with the original cartridge), the chances of getting banned (me or the other person) are almost to zero?
Probably. But who knows. Next time you sign onto WiFi and connect, will it start sharing information about your currently inserted cartridge? What about game downloads. Hypothetically sure but this is new territory. Nothing is guaranteed! Thanks for watching! 😊
Doesnt matter about the game being online or not. If your switch goes online it will upload your data. People frequently got banned with modded consoles from this. Your switch contains metadata about games played / serial numbers that it uploads regularly when online.
problem is if lot of people use the same cart certification to go online, i think nintendo will mark that cert down to deal with it later ! like a mass ban wave or something, just ban random people is a waste of time !
If you want to legally back up your games, you’ll require the dumper. If you obtain the switch games for the MIG Switch in official ways it’s nearly a guarantee ban
great info. Do you think you could do a video on Switchlit? I have questions about that one; one of my questions is if it's (Switchlit) very truly and completely legal and will not be banned by Nintendo?
I guess that was the point. The dumper is pretty much a requirement to easily using the MIG Switch and without it it’s an incomplete solution. Thanks for watching! 😊
I don’t think they’ll be able to ban people who’ve played on the same certificate as another. Cause of used game sales and also certain local libraries that rent out switch games. To perma ban anyone who takes out a game from a library or buy a used game could lead to lawsuits. But who knows, Nintendo isn’t new to terrible business practices
Nintendo would probably push out a firmware that monitors the order and frequency of how often a user inserts cartridges into their switch and use that plus the duplicate signatures as a way to identify mig switch owners.
I think Nintendo already has all of the capabilities to catch people abusing the MIG Switch because of those unique cartridge certificates - it’s just a matter of time until they truly act on it! Thanks for watching! 😊
You can use one certificate from a game you own and have that on every piriated Switch game you download. Put that certificate, and it will play like normal. I have 53 games that have the same certificate and they all play online. Nintendo servers cant tell what game it is
personally i would destroy any cartridges i dumped to this to ensure they don't get duped and blacklisted. it sucks that I'd hav to do that for my own safety, but gotta do what u gotta do
DESTORY!? Nah don’t need to go that far! Just don’t sell your games or let a friend borrow a game that you’re currently playing if it’s got lots of online play elements. Thanks for watching! 😊
Modded Hardware isn’t a scam. I had the same experience as you. I ordered in January. Never got communication. I finally got my order today May 19. I also thought I got scammed lol
They’re all the same product. I can’t speak about any specific stores. I got mine off AliExpress and it shipped SUPER fast. There’s no OFFICIAL mig switch store though. So make sure you use a reputable store
The MIG Switch can only run signed cartridge games. If you’re looking for emulators check out modding the switch with a mod chip, using the emulators from your NSO subscription, or I prefer dedicated emulation handhelds! Thanks for watching!
I ordered mine back in April/may maybe before that I’ve went through e-mail hell with them and I have asked at one point for my money back only to be promised to finally get which I did I didn’t get a fancy little box for it I haven’t tried it out since I need the rest of the stuff to download
You can but they don't mention it otherwise Nintendo would be all over it. However, other R4 carts for other systems would also be in trouble. The trick is to have Nintendo not support the console anymore and then it's party time.
It’s not the number of switch devices you own. It’s the risk of losing access to your Nintendo account which is not necessarily tied to the device. It’s the account that’s tied to your digital purchases or digital redemptions
@@ScatteredBrain I hope anyone that reads this just has the brilliant idea of a burner account, I’ve bought many games more than once before, this would be no different
Definitely would be a huge UX improvement! But I’m guessing that’s another layer that requires software that would make things a bit more difficult since then we’re no longer looking at an exact 1:1 image of the cartridge image Thanks for watching! 😊

Yea I think the game cycling is unfortunately not very feasible if you planned to backup and carry around more than 10 or 15 games on the flash cart
Thanks for watching! 😊
At that point having to cycle through games like that is barely more convenient than just using a game card case

I would wait until Nintendo moves on to the next console and they stop supporting software updates for the Switch. Safer that way.
Yep! There will always be a risk. I am guessing the Switch will live on for quite some time, even after Nintendo's next generation is released - but one day when those servers inevitably go offline, there'll be a little to no risk!

The sad part on migswitch are the scratches overtime
Hey bro where can you buy that Lamp that says 7400? @ 2:19

Hey have you managed to use the MIG switch yet? How do you like it?
4:57 technically you can use a certificate from any game and it will work... BUT the certificate is tied to the game and though Nintendo doesnt ban for this mismatch yet, they could easily ban for it later
But who are they gona ban? The one with the copy or the other with the actual cartridge? I dont think they can tell who to ban..

I am just speaking from experience, there might be even more that came before that
Btw version 2 has a button to cycle games
I wonder if NS2 will make it harder for this sort of thing
Don't use this you will get banned from online services on your Switch meaning you can no longer transfer your pokemon between games.
Trying to connect online from the same WiFi network for some reason does not allow you to play online even with authentic copies of the game from my personal experience with smash brothers ultimate

@@ScatteredBrain I got my switch banned bro lol
It’s definitely a risk. Not sure what you did, but if you used game certificates that aren’t yours, yea that’ll be the risk
@@ScatteredBrain I was the first one in the world to get one and review it and I tested everything and anything on it so no surprise right lol
What if I don't create an account on my switch?
That would also mean you don’t have access to any online functionality so hypothetically it should be fine!
Is it possible to have a game like the original Sonic Generations with a mod included run on a switch without having to jailbreak the console?
This will sadly be a pass for me....
so you cant download a rom of the internet load it to sd card and play it on the mig?
no
Yes look for mig switch torrent 4tb games
keep popping out cards to change game? i wish there a better way.
SAME! But it's really not so bad. The cartridge slot is definitely built to be super sturdy and survive hundreds of thousands of cart swaps. But still, can be a pain if you've got a massive Switch library on the MIG Switch!
Thanks for watching! 😊
The dumper is sweet. I've been playing my games on the Steamdeck and PC. Mods and higher framerates feel great.
Just got my cards and dumper, I'm the use case that i just don't want to have to carry a bunch of cards with me, thanks for the video
I ordered mine when they first opened pre orders and still have yet to see any mig switch 🙃
Does the switch needs to be hacked or will this mig cartridge work on a standard switch?
No hacks - works on any Nintendo Switch, no modifications
IF the Nintendo is Banned... Cant u play AT all anymore, or just not Online?

hey some quick things that i think you may have covered but i may have missed, can you get downloaded games, also can you get update files, and can you get DLC files,
Why not have an update for the mig switch that prevents the switch from phoning home whilst using the mig switch.
The cartridge unfortunately isn’t able to do anything except be a cartridge. It’s bound by the same rules as real cartridges
Thanks! You answered to all my questions about this thing.
Thanks for watching! 😊
Popping the cartridge in and out is a terrible drawback, one reason people want to store all their games in one place is to not wear out the contacts on their carts or the cart reader. This seems like it will cause excessive wear and tear, I would rather dump all my games to the internal MicroSD and just boot them from there
Can you play games "without" the dumper? As in pirating? Without a hacked Switch.
I’m sure there’s workarounds, but given that there’s rumor and discussing about being banned even with legitimate dumps, is it worth the risk? If you’re planning on using your switch 100% offline permanently, then sure I’m sure there’s a way to!

What size micro sd would you recommend to use with the MS 😊
Up to you! I put in a 1tb (linked in video description) because I knew I’d want to backup all of my physical carts on there which is about 15 games but I wanted to make sure I leave room for more games in the future. Games are going to be 16gb or less each so you can probably figure out how many games you’d want to store based on that.

@@ScatteredBrain Thanks! :)
Do i require the dumper at all? For my never hacked switch ?
If you want to legally back up your games, you’ll require the dumper. If you obtain the switch games for the MIG Switch in official ways it’s nearly a guarantee ban
any update on being BANNED yet? @ScatteredBrian
great info. Do you think you could do a video on Switchlit? I have questions about that one; one of my questions is if it's (Switchlit) very truly and completely legal and will not be banned by Nintendo?
Seems stupid why would i need this if it requires a modded switch i could just put the games on my device with a modded switch without this stupidity
I guess that was the point. The dumper is pretty much a requirement to easily using the MIG Switch and without it it’s an incomplete solution.

Can it play rom hacks or mods for games?
As of now, it cannot.
It's almost worthless if there's no site to download encrypted Switch games from.
What you need is a second copy of Mario cart so you can see if the cart certs are actually different.
They are. I had several copies of Animal Crossing physical to confirm!

Bans usually happen in waves, could be weeks before a flag turns into a ban.
Mine hasn’t arrived! 😢

It’s not the number of switch devices you own. It’s the risk of losing access to your Nintendo account which is not necessarily tied to the device. It’s the account that’s tied to your digital purchases or digital redemptions
