I used this same technique back a few decades ago right there in Ellensburg on the Yakima river. Even bought my flies and maggots at Bi-Mart. I used speedometer cable as my weight as it is super slinky and rarely snags. The first year I went out it was cold, icy and I caught about a dozen whitefish quite easily. Next year, similar conditions, same spot on the river and caught nothing but trout, about 8 of them all released but nary a whitefish. It was interesting and a lot of fun but I've not done it again since then. My thoughts are starting to turn to Lake Whitefish instead. Enjoyed your video, better luck next time for the whitefish.
Great information! Just moved to Missoula for school this fall and am learning how to fish these mountain rivers. Want to catch some whitefish so I’ll definitely be giving this tactic a shot!
Quick question. Is it legal to fish stimulator nymph above your other nymph? And if it's legal to use two flies on same line, would it be effective to use egg pattern with a nymph
Thank you for the tips! I’ve only ever gotten one whitefish to bite on a wire worm with a bobber. Will definitely give your method a try!
Good tips! I’m from Yakima, this will be my first winter trying.
I use this method on the Fraser and Thompson rivers in BC , a fly under a small float Barbless of course
Awesome video man! Great to see more info on whitefish!
Thanks man! I plan on doing a part 2 here soon
