I have a question. Iike locking in the stitches by going forward and backward. Most times I start a quarter inch forward do three stitches back and then go forward. Another way is I put my stitch length to zero and do three stitches in place. Gives me a tidy knot. Would this knot hold with nylon thread? Also on my bernina bobbin on the arm there is a hole. I thread my bobbin thread through that hole before I put the bobbin in the machine. Sew normal. This pulls the top thread down and uses less bobbin thread. This way I never have a problem seeing the bobbin thread on top.

Thank you very much for watching my video and being interested in my technique!
I believe that in the video I indicate that I start forward and then back up several stitches to lock them in place and this is necessary to lock the nylon thread. You could start at a smaller stitch if you would like but I find the back stitch to be quicker and I really do hundreds of these, so it is just my preference.
I do have a Bernina, as well and do thread thru the bobbin to pull downward on the tension. I mention this in my classes but not on the video as there is only so much you can review. On the new Bernina’s with the large bobbin cases you cannot do this but I find on my new model there is not a need to deal with the tension as much.
      Hope this helps, enjoy!!

Does the nylon thread resist ironing or the dryer? Ah sorry you say around 10 mins. It’s ok

Wouldn't the nylon thread age faster than traditional threads and start breaking later and then ruining the piecing?

I have been doing it this way with high quality YLI nylon thread and washed some of them that are bed quilts (some are display only) with never an issue at all. I have used this method for well over 15 years now on many quilts.

Once you have sewn all the way around a hexagon, you simply pull them out. Yes, they can get a little bit of needle/thread on the edges, but they will give way once you pull on them. If its not working for you try poking it with your seam ripper to get an edge started. You should be able to reuse them at least a few times. Hope this helps.

Use Closed Captioning, and turn your volume Down, and
READ what they are saying. No noise! I use CC all of the time when I can't sleep, or when others are in the room just trying to read, or even watch TV, their own videos, etc
