What a neat idea. Thanks.
Glad you liked it!
Would like a close up of the actual sewing and what the stitches look like afterwards. 😊
We have been thinking of reshooting this video for a number of reasons, not the least is the background noise. thanks for your feedback!
Lovely...thanks ❤
Thank you for demonstrating this.
Glad you enjoyed it
I’m getting ready to make my very first hexi quilt and I’m so glad I found this video! Question: I looked for the ILY nylon thread on your website and I only see the “ invisible” clear thread. Is that the thread you’re referring to as the top thread? Thank you!!
Are you still in business? I tried to by the printed or digital technique sheet but it is not working?
I'm sorry if the digital download is not working for you. I've checked it out and don't find anything wrong. Contact the store and we can either mail you one or email it to you. 805-371-3042
Type “ENGLISH PAPER PIECING” in their search box and you’ll find it.
Happy Sunday Afternoon from Florida🫶
Very cool demo...thank you!
I just found your channel...I sure wish I could have been a part of this mystery. It looks really fun!
It was a lot of fun. We had about 75 participants. We plan on doing another in the Spring. Go to our home page and send me your information on the Contact Us page and I'll add you to our newsletter list so you can keep informed.
What is all the background noise most annoying sorry
Marilyn's a star! (see what I did there?) Great intro to the shop!
I really enjoy kits! Looking forward to making the three kits I purchased today at this quilt run. Thank you for this wonderful video tour. I may have to return for a second round of shopping.
Thanks so much for coming by!
Hard to watch most of the camera didn’t show what you were doing. Felt seasick with the constant camera movement
Love to have your cat be part of your process. We have one too, and I think it is a natural symbiosis.
I have a question. Iike locking in the stitches by going forward and backward. Most times I start a quarter inch forward do three stitches back and then go forward. Another way is I put my stitch length to zero and do three stitches in place. Gives me a tidy knot. Would this knot hold with nylon thread? Also on my bernina bobbin on the arm there is a hole. I thread my bobbin thread through that hole before I put the bobbin in the machine. Sew normal. This pulls the top thread down and uses less bobbin thread. This way I never have a problem seeing the bobbin thread on top.
Thank you very much for watching my video and being interested in my technique! I believe that in the video I indicate that I start forward and then back up several stitches to lock them in place and this is necessary to lock the nylon thread. You could start at a smaller stitch if you would like but I find the back stitch to be quicker and I really do hundreds of these, so it is just my preference. I do have a Bernina, as well and do thread thru the bobbin to pull downward on the tension. I mention this in my classes but not on the video as there is only so much you can review. On the new Bernina’s with the large bobbin cases you cannot do this but I find on my new model there is not a need to deal with the tension as much. Hope this helps, enjoy!!
Sorry meant quilt BOM for American Pie.
We may be able to cut a kit for you if we have enough leftover fabric. Please call the shop at 805-371-3042 and leave your name and number.
I am having a heck of a time trying to find a quilt. I even checked your website store. If I just buy the pattern, can I still follow your free videos?
We don't have it our our website anymore because we aren't sure we have enough fabric to cut it, but of course you are welcome to follow our videos. Just know that we altered the cutting instructions to allow you to use Deb Tucker rulers. Links to the alternate cutting instructions are on our website where we have UA-cam links for this BOM. Or contact us and I'll send them to you.
Thank you. I’ll call in the am
Machine EPP? Is that even allowed? 😊 Hugs! Thank you for opening up a whole new option!
Hope you love it!
Good morning
It would make great blanket to give To Veterans
How do you get the pattern for this?
Contact our store. We have kits and patterns available. Call us tomorrow. 805-371-3042
Is every step the same price as the first one?
Your flying geese should measure 4½" x 8½"...not 5½
Med dark #3 is also 3/4?
No. Fabric #3, which is the medium dark is 1-3/4 yard. Fabric #2 is the medium and is only 3/4 yard.
Would love to have watched it but to much background noise for my ears.
Use Closed Captioning, and turn your volume Down, and READ what they are saying. No noise! I use CC all of the time when I can't sleep, or when others are in the room just trying to read, or even watch TV, their own videos, etc
Thanks.
I purchased the laser appliqué kit with my Color Collage BOM, but did not receive a full-size paper pattern like the one in your video. Am I stuck with “free-styling” the placement of the appliqué pieces?
You should have the paper layout for the border as part of your pattern. If for some reason it didn't come with it you should either contact who provided it or just use the pictures and do your best for laying it out. Nobody will know if it doesn't match the original exactly.
Thank you for a very informative tutorial. Your demo clears up a couple of my questions. Lovely voice and presentation.
I appreciate the dowel and ties for organization. Ty
I prefer the Fabric Tube Maker myself.
Love this method!
How do you take the paper out???
Once you have sewn all the way around a hexagon, you simply pull them out. Yes, they can get a little bit of needle/thread on the edges, but they will give way once you pull on them. If its not working for you try poking it with your seam ripper to get an edge started. You should be able to reuse them at least a few times. Hope this helps.
Sitting down to cut is not a great idea. I see your ruler moving. Otherwise ..thanks
SS
Brenda from Mount Scrapmore sent me to your channel, and what a wonderful thing to find it really was you, friend of my friend, Fran Regos. I was in your shop with her the week before she went into a coma, and we had a great time. I'm so pleased to see you are still in business, and still making beautiful quilts!
Who are you, there are no links anywhere on here to where to find you.
Good question and I should be adding those to the notes. These videos are primarily for our customers participating in our Saturday Sampler program but all are welcome to take advantage of them. Our store is called Cotton & Chocolate Quilt Company and we are located in Thousand Oaks California. Our website is www.cottonandchocolate.com/ We'd love to have you be a part of our shop.
Great job, Marilyn! Miss you!!!😊
Hi, where do we get the kits at?
This is now a closed group and we do not have any kits available. You are welcome to use these videos if you can get a kit from somewhere else. If you are in interested in our program next year, please go to our website and use the contact us page to sign-up for our newsletter. We'll be taking sign-ups in the December timeframe.
Isn’t 5 3/8” the middle size and 5 3/4” the largest size?
Possibly. I'm out of town until Tuesday but can check then.
Beatiful quilt
Great tutorial! It was fun getting to visit you and your fun shop yesterday!
Nice! Just came across your channel.
Thanks for this video. This is awesome!!!
Glad you liked it.
Marilyn and Jerry, thank you fun video.
I had the opportunity to visit your shop last December (on a very rainy day). It is a beautiful shop! Love this tour!
Thank you great video
Wouldn't the nylon thread age faster than traditional threads and start breaking later and then ruining the piecing?
I have been doing it this way with high quality YLI nylon thread and washed some of them that are bed quilts (some are display only) with never an issue at all. I have used this method for well over 15 years now on many quilts.
Great Job Marilyn! The shop looks fabulous. So many new ideas and fun choices. If any of you have not been to Cotton and Chocolate, it definitely worth a visit. So many good ideas and lots of variety. Great classes and also group gathering options. If you want to learn to quilt, advance your skills or if you just need to get out of the house and meet some new people while gathering inspiration, its a fun spot.
Very clear instructions, thank you
Thank you for posting this. I purchased this kit from a quilt shop and then my job relocated me. The shop continues to send each month instructions to me, but it is great to work along with you. Sometimes I need the visual. I do have the Tucker rulers so I'll be able to use them along with you as well. Again, thank you so much.
