I don't own a press, So I'm using the burn and cut method to remove the old bushings. Looks like I might need to find a local shop to install the new ones. I'll see if my 6" bench vice can handle it before engaging a shop :)
6" bench vice may work. They aren't too hard to get it but aligning them and getting them started is the key and make sure to use some sort of silicone grease to help. For the price of what you may pay a shop, see what your local stores might have for a small press.
Lol well this explains allot.. I removed the inner rubber but not the outer metal sleeve.. no wonder I can't get the new in.

I do have a small press used for bending pipes, I believe to be a 6 tons hydraulic unit, Seen that yours is 30 tons, would you think mine would do the job just fine? I would like to have this clear before I start taking them arms off the vehicle, thanx a lot for the video, super informative.
The 6 ton press should do the job. It depends on the condition of the parts you are using but if they are in ok condition I don't see where you would have a problem. Sorry for the late response. Unfortunately I no longer have that 30 ton press in my garage but I do have one of those "Big Red" 12 ton mini shop press which will have to do . The key is to be careful with any press you are using, especially some of the smaller ones. Make sure parts are square and straight to the press.
Hey mate did you end up fitting these arms back into the car?
When i try to re install arm into the mount on the car it hits a little re-inforcing plate on the inside of the mount. Did you come across this at all? If so how did you rectify?

It's been a while since I put them into the car but I don't recall any issues. is anything bent? Can you send any photos or video to savethevolvos@savethevolvos.com ? I can help you see what the issue is if I can see it.

Same thing happened to me, been driving on it like that for probably about a year now with no issues other than some noise, but thinking about pulling them back off to see of I can grind off anything getting in the way from a proper mounting
I had this same issue. I ended up cutting the plate off. I think the reason for the plate is to not allow the arm to push in farther than it should to make re-installation easier. Regardless of what it's for, I cut it off and lived.
I had the same problem with these bushings, ended up to cut the sides a little bit. Very hard to get in. But then I came across another PU bushings made by powerflex witch are made in a way that they have a "place" for the re-inforcing plate.
I just ordered new trailing arms and bushings from volvo for my 240. Need someone to put the large ones on for me. No one has the tool though

@2:40 what is that grime is that corrosion that you should look out for??
It’s just a red clay that made itself permanent with the undercoating. There is no corrosion on these parts.

Master Thot Slayer thank you for the compliment. Even if a part has surface rust it will be fine to use. It’s when a part is pitted and flaking (delaminating) is it time to worry about a part. This car sat in a field for many years by two previous owners ago. Needless to say I have been unsuccessful in getting rid of the red clay color that impregnated the underbody coating without removing the coating which I don’t want to do. Reach out anytime ! Those trailing arms have seen better days.seems like a waste of $$ to use polyurethane bushings in rusted components
nevri cebaph they are dirty that’s all. We have something called clay where I live and it’s orange like rust . They are coated in undercoating and the clay . Even if they were “rusty” surface rust never hurt anyone. These cars aren’t new cars and it would have been a waste of my time and money to remove the perfectly good undercoating and then paint them to anticipate not having a comment like this on the video 😂. It’s a daily driver and a well used car. You won’t see any superficiality put into this car . It’s served to haul the family around for years. Still holding it’s own.
