    I remember watching this video when I was 12 years old. I also remember seeing the 909 in person when I was 11 years old. And then hearing her crash when I was 16. I miss that plane.

    Nice work, only thing about the interior is the floors aren't quite right. They are plywood panels, in the radio room there is a section in the middle that is actually a door for the camera bay. If you were to do another one, add two aluminum strips that are inline with the door to the bomb bay between the bulkheads. Also in most of the planes the floor where the bombsite is located is bare metal. They removed the plywood later on to save some weight. There is also a plywood catwalk behind the ball turret to the tail wheel housing that had a non skid rubber surface, that was also used in the radio room in some earlier models, and later models the rear fuse floor had no walkway in the middle, but a shelf at each gunners position. Reason being it made it easier to clear the spent casings out when they returned to base. Another item of interest is the cockpit. None of the scale models are correct, they made the cockpit too wide. On the real plane, the cockpit walls angle in from bottom of the window back, and all the oxygen bottles are underneath the cockpit floor in front of Bulkhead 4. The floor is actually very narrow in the cockpit behind the seats, and the 1/72 scale model also lacks the opening on the floor where they enter and exit the cockpit to get to the nose section or use the under belly entrance. It is made of aluminum, not plywood.
    I happen to be working with a team that is restoring a B-17 E model, and have pored over photographs of the military ready planes. A lot of what you see on restored aircraft weren't original to the planes and added to prevent wear. The plywood floors are 3/8" thick and wear quickly, and why they cover them all with a non slip rubber. Aside from those few differences, really nice job, better than I can do that is for sure.

    David. really unbelievable build man. You are gifted. I just started building again after a 40 year layoff and you have taught me a lot. I only build WW2 aircraft (on my 5th build now). Just a question, what tape are you using to hold the model together while the glue dries, it looks like electrical tape. Thanks in advance and I am looking forward to watching more from you. Take it easy man.

    Have you had a chance to compare this kit to the new(er) Airfix B-17G kit? Which would you rate as the better looking kit?

    • @JDJLalor
      @JDJLalor 6 років тому

      I have the Revell G and the Airfix 100 Group Fortress III, and for my money the Airfix kit has the edge on detail, tho' both are pretty decent. The Airfix kit gives you the staggered waist positions, the Revell one models the earlier arrangement.

    Love watching your vids. Why did you choose the revell kit over the monogram? Also, I saw another modeler post the psi, nozzle side and any mix ratios/recipes in the bottom left corner when painting. I think that's a great idea...

    • @idaemonplasmo
      @idaemonplasmo  6 років тому +1

      I do not like this idea because this information is useless. I have three different airbrushes with same 0,2 nozzles, and I must dilute paint differently. Also, it depends what color you are using and how old is. And of course, everyone has a different air compressor, hose diameter, and length. You must also take into account these factors.
