I don't think either of your theories on the extra skill tree lead anywhere.
All the icons are the same, it seems like just a placeholder tree should they want to envelop it in the future. And the Grit and Rush bar is just the extended blur from that part.

I think the blur on grit and edge is just because they blurred the last skill tree, but made the bar cover the entire screen horizontally

You can see they didn't just blur the entire bottom of the screen, and both the tree and the buffs are blurred out separately.
The scroll bar isn't blurred, and the left side of grit and rush are also not blurred.
I doubt they'll change much about the buffs other than the values, but they are definitely blurred on purpose here.

I wish this free update will not too intimidating for solo players like me... It looks promising since I play Payday 2 too and I enjoyed to beat all heists solo in Payday 2.

i dont like the new skill tree
so it looks like we need to pick up that first skill - that will make us lose rush every time we throw a bag - if we want the 2 bag carrying skill
now to me that seems like running the bagger skill will be next to useless combined with this skill tree
before with bagger you could bag a bunch of stuff while u had rush
but with this after the first bag the rush will be gone
the 2 bag carrying is so powerful it will practically need to be included in every build
but with this rush losing it will be such a big hindrance for for example a stealth build that wants to maintain rush at all times

What they could do is make it so if you Equip the last perk in the tree it unlocks the middle, kinda like how pd2 had 2 paths you could take if you wanted to get a higher up perk
