Sensational video Norman. You deserve a medal and an honorary PhD from an Ivy League university for your brilliant teaching style. If only others whose job it is to teach people were even half as good as you, the world would be a much smarter place. TOP MARKS MATE! WELL DONE! :-)
I agree 100% It's not just the knowledge, it's his ability to make it so easy to comprehend for me. I'm a Carpenter of over 30 years. I can build almost anything out of wood. I've stayed away from electrical my whole life. After watching this video I'm ready to go rewire my 1973 Wheel Horse. I may need to watch a section again as I'm going but it's mostly understood after first watch. Fantastic teaching ability. His starter rebuild was just as easy to understand.
get a copy of wiring diagram off of the net for your mower study it its very simple to under stand it is common you would be supprised at the # of mowers that are wired just alike they all have a switch apto a brake pedal aseat each item i listed has wires to it for a reason u sualy the tbl is in a switch thats moves the most the wires just hang there key and pto switch are common ther two different key switches that i know i key has 3 notches the kea has two but they wire alike
Gotta give another shout out as I just rewired an old JD 112 using this video as my wiring diagram. Like one comment says, best wiring video I've seen on the net. Keep the good work up brother, if I was living in the US I would have definitely support your business.
Fantastic video! Norman explains each circuit simply and clearly so that anyone can understand them. He also illustrates each circuit well with his layouts. Excellent job!
This is the best instructional video on wireing a tractor ever, now I actually understand how it works and how to do it. All the others I seen were not helpful at all. They just assume we know more than we do, whereas u start completely from basic and explain everything so well.
This is Soooooo good! Clear, good pacing, understandable! I've had a nice garden tractor for 9 years that I haven't used because I couldn't figure this out. Thank you!
Great video! Very straightforward and well explained. Being in the automotive industry for 34 years I couldn’t have explained it better. Amazing job Norm!
Norm, Your visual of this is much more understandable to understand for those of us less experience electrical people Thank You so much for this and other videos
Super fabulous video! It's clear and straight to the point. Easy to follow and understand. The diagrams are helpful but the best part, I think, is simply seeing each system broken down into its components and wired correctly. I'm considering stripping out all the wiring in an older rider mower I am rebuilding and wiring it up as you show in order to completely eliminate all the safety and kill switches which annoy me to death and to have good, new wire and connections. I'll be checking out the other videos on your site and when I need parts, you will be the first place I check. Thanks for sharing this video.
Really well done, Norman. You are an excellent instructor, and the videography was well done. This vid gave me exactly the information I was looking for. Thanks!
very simple to understand straight to the point easy to follow step-by-step i have viewed others videos and they are too complicated congratulations on this video
There are lots of guys out there trying to illustrate the wireing system of a lawn tractor ignition switch and it's affiliated parts But you my friend have made mention to a great many things as I learned some interesting things from your video as you have broken stuff down it's very confusing as you said to untangle all this information color codes and all and we're they may go if unplugged some how or to add something else like a push button start like I am indeed trying to do and we're your video is putting some light on that dark path it will for sure take me a few extra hours to study the video to get it right with out question your video is the best I have come across on this topic and hearing you mentioned you published information in magazines this in my mind is worthy that your not only telling us newbies how but doing so the right way from the start not as others try to you start with it from the bottom up nicely done for sure you have my attention for future video watching I clearly see it's not wasted time your a good teacher and I am gladly giving you a thumbs up and a button smash
I'm replacing ignition, battery, battery cables, cig lighter, headlight wiring in the morning, October 12th. This is a very comprehensive video in my opinion.
This video made it very easy to rip out all the troublesome wiring and start from scratch. My old wheel horse had all kinds of old switches by passed and old connecters that were just TROUBLE. Now, very little wire, I know where everything goes, and the tractor starts and runs fine. Many Thanks!!!!!
Thank you for this easy to understand explanation of the flow and connections of a 12 volt system. The understanding part for me is due to your clear annunciation. Also, thank you for not using "slut words" that are found in so many of these videos. You are truly a professional.
This was great! Finally, after many years of being confused by the wiring - and further confused by the many complex and limited references to what these wires all do - confusing - and often incorrect - wiring diagrams and not even knowing what components are where on my 3 different Cub Cadets, now i know how to figure out ANY wiring on ANY of my small tractors. I cannot thank you enough for your clear explanations of these circuits and their components. And you know that IsaveTractors.com will be my new source of parts - and advice about keeping my 40+ year old Cub Cadets running. - the 1200, the 1450 and the 17 hp 782... Thanks! (and now I can get back to solving the wiring problems with the old 782. Gotta get back to work; the grass is growing and needs to be cut before the rains begin again....
Thank you SOO MUCH Norman! I know there are very few wires on my Gravely 8122, but without knowing WHERE they go is very frustrating! You are CLEAR, CONCISE and to the point! Thank again!
I do wish I had this when I totally tor apart my tractor. I got it back together but not nearly as quick or easy as if I knew about this video. Thank you for saving tractors!
Norman you just earned another subscriber here. That has got to be the best instructional video I have ever watched and I've watched many. Thank you so much for taking the time to explain everything with such clarity and detail!!!
You have a fantastic way with words! So easy to follow and well explained, even my 8 year old understood exactly how and why the circuits worked. Thanks
Thank u so much for posting this video I was having trouble with wiring on 140 so I ripped the old wiring harness out and made my own just the way u did it works starts right up everytime
Been watching lots of videos but this one rocks. I took the time to copy down all of the audio so I can type it up for future reference. Also did some screen grabs. Best explanation I have found. Thanks!
isavetractors Thanks. I appreciate that. Recently got interested in repairing small engines because I have an older Zero Turn Mower with a bad engine that I would like to repair so that I can use to pull a Craftsman Lawn Broom to pick up grass so I can put on my compost pile.
Mister, if your not a teacher ,you should be, I've watched a dozen different videos trying to obtain this same information.. You put it all in one video leaving absolutely nothing to be questioned , Excellent job Sir, If your not a teacherr theres any open loop in the system,. Thank you,
So glad I saw this. My rectifier has just been sitting in my tractor doing nothing. I just use a battery charger. Now I can hook it back up and use the power. I do have an issue with my solenoid clicking but not running the starter. I just jump from the battery to the starter side terminal with a heavy copper wire to run the starter.
Sounds like you need some new parts. You may need a new solenoid, and a rectifier. We have them all. Look us up at www.isavetractors.com and order online or give us a call.
sharp kid -- tells you of series & parallel ( and series parallel } wiring with out telling you which is which -- but explains it very well > job well done
Np we have talked by phone with regards to my JD 316 parts/ 16 hp kohler that I had ordered several months ago and it is running like a top last time it was a question about the exhaust valve anyway keep up the good work Norman and I did find you fb page take care
ah yes, rewiring . done that many times with all my hacked up wiring on my fleet. some like my 86 gt 2 needed all new wiring, itd been all hacked and corroded, so yanked it all when i redid it. i bot a varitiy of wire, connectors, shrink tubing for just that. thanks for the info.👍
i stand corrected im 86 yrs old worked on eng. since i was a teen ager never new this type system existed but i can see why they changed firing to magnetos
Best video ive found great job im going to recommend this video when i start making tutorial videos working on mowers for my small engine side of my business and for sharing videos of my craftsman lt1000 project as i work on it and modify it into a utv lawn tractor that i plan to use as a second source of transportation around town besides bike riding and another more Ambitious project down the road
Norman, thanks for this very informative video. This is by far the best instructional video on basic wiring I have ever seen. Please keep the videos coming.
I have a mess On my old Ford just like yours. So far they had everything wired on the coil wrong I’m just gonna have to start from scratch I guess. Thanks for the video it’s very helpful
Well done. The explanation applies to just about every vehicle and or stationary engine ignition system with the exception of some very modern vehicles. It does apply to Motorcycles, Dune buggies, lawn tractors, go-karts, cars, trucks, etc with both 6 and 12 volt systems.
Wow, that is the most concise, clear layout of basic tractor systems I have ever seen. It took me years to figure out what you just laid out. Good to have confirmation that I did learn something lol. I have 6 Gravely's only one has points and when they wear out they are history lol I love electronic ignitions. My Gravelys (400 series ) have out lived their original electronic ignitions and have been replace with modern triggers. Haven't had to touch them. I'm a new subscriber, so I don't know if you have covered them in the past, but that would be very interesting to see. Good job.

This is the most complete demonstration i have ever seen ! Ty very much .
I'm building a go cart with a lot of parts from an old lawn tractor. This is the only video that made literally any sense at all. Thanks!
