- If you have a bit of experience with InDesign, you probably both know and use paragraph and character styles. However, there is a third style type that I feel isn’t quite as appreciated as it should be. Object Styles, a powerful feature which lets you format text or graphic frames with one click. You can include, colour, effects, text options, paragraph styles position and more. In this tutorial I’ll show you some of my favourite features and use cases.

Also I would like to say I have listened to your feedback and scaled up my InDesign interface to make it more easy to read. I've also tried to adjust my EQ to make my audio less muffled. Thank you for helping me improve my content, cheers :)
Superb little presentation, thanks
Thanx, happy to hear it.
Thanks for a concise video presentation. Obviously well planned & delivered.
Great to hear, you're welcome
you changed the game with this simple breakdown bro. please keep uploading as many indesign tips and tricks as possible - the word tutorial was also lovely.
Thank you, so glad to hear that 😀
alright here's the thing, I am super grateful that someone's making this tutos! you have thought me endless possibilities and for someone like me who finds their joy playing with these settings, very amazing! also keep on unfolding underrated features like these, and may be get a little more advanced! thaaanks
Thank you for the kind words. You are very welcome 🙂
Object styles have always been an underused function in Indesign.
I am a new user and picked up on this quickly, and glad I did.
Thanks for the tutorial.
Glad to hear it, you're welcome :)
Thanks for the video Kevin, today I was learning to do Object Styles to embed images, one every five pages, in the books I'm working on. Your video was in the top of recommendations for this task and your explanation was even easier that the other videos I saw today.
Great to hear that. I try and make my videos as straight forward as possible without getting stuck on details not related to the topic 😀
@CC Pipe please consider doing an "InDesign obscure tool bar items" series some day. Every time we learners get confused we have to assemble our solutions from multiple videos that just barely touch explaining tool bar items cause-and-effects. Many times they assume we know everything in InDesign and I have to rewind just to see where the mouse was placed and interpret it myself. Most don't explain what are the tools for, just assume we know them and fly through the tutorials
Thanks for a very clear tutorial! Do you know if there is an easy way to select all objects of a certain style? The reason I want to select all is because I want to apply "clear overrides" for all objects of a certain style.
Hi, happy to hear it. In the find and change dialog (CTRL+F) there is a tab for objects, I haven't used it much but you should be able to find and change an object style or a particular attribute. If it's about type this trick might also be helpful: ua-cam.com/users/shortslnTGINs6QTE?feature=shared
thanks so much for this content! I have a question, is it also possible to Link (threaded frames) textboxes for longer import text files so I can place the text in one go and apply after the objects styles. I coudn't do it so you might have an idea or work around on this?
Hi, I've noticed that problem too. And I don't have a great solution. Some things work some doesn't. I usually unlink boxes (at least temporarily) and then apply object styles if I need to work with them. Glad you liked the video.
@@ccpipe thank you! Yeah I did unlink the boxes after more or less placing the text and then formated the objects, its a bit a lala option but it does work. Happy to see more of your content, well presented, thanks!
