People commonly think the Ocean dub VA (Brian Drummond) sucked as Vegeta...however when it came to iconic lines like 'It's over 9000!' and this one, he made them famous. This guy could really express anger and shout. I liked his voice as Vegeta up til the Frieza saga because it was fitting for the more cunning and villainous Vegeta imo.
I love Sabat and Funimation, but Brian Drummond really knocked it out of the park with his cocky, unhinged performance as early Vegeta. I can't imagine Drummond voicing Vegeta after he calms down, though. It would be... weird.
candykanethunderbolt I agree, the early Ocean were epic at best, but the later Ocean was really overrated, I can’t stand that they use their own sound effects over the original sound effects too much, a true headache, the soundtrack choice is even awful but a few were good, still wished they could’ve have Faulconers permissions to use his soundtracks like Funimation used it and some voices were even overrated like Goku and Trunks for example, Trunks sounded the worst. But guys like Brian Drummond, Scott McNeil and Terry Klassan were the only ones bare able and still underrated.
I think that his would be second in terms of comparison to the rest of these - the intensity matches Drummond, but goes to the funny instead of the chilling in the best possible way
ocean sounds like his vocal cords are gonna explode. how the hell could any other dub beat ocean. OMG its absolutely incredible what brian drummond produced for early vegeta
Brian drummond in ocean dub still takes the cake after all these years. ah the glory days of my younger youth. I loved staying up till eight to watch dbz.
Basically Sabat really fits Vegeta as the anti-hero but early DBZ Vegeta was a maniac and a psychopath and that fits Brian way more. As a kid, I legit feared for Gohan's life after seeing Brian Vegeta rage. As an adult, I still feel it. Brian's Vegeta at no point in the early DBZ sagas ever scared me or made me feel anything, but by Cell arc he mastered the anti-hero voice and fits Vegeta way more.
TFS: Vegeta: Now, it should be right here... Right here... Where the hell is it?... It couldn't have gone anywhere. Alright, I'm going to close my eyes and when I open them up it's going to be right here it's not here... Why isn't it here?! I don't get it! Who could have?! The kid... This was the scene that actually made me realize as a kid that they switched the voices Midway through the series when they aired the reruns. Because I was thinking wow Vegeta isn't as scary this second time around I don't remember him not saying "you won't escape my wrath" lol You know isn't just the acting but I think the dialogue was better in the ocean because I can hear Chris say the dub dialogue in my head and it does sound better.
The Ocean dub is truly underrated for certain characters. Drummond was just brilliant as early Vegeta. It also happens to be the best dub in terms of dialogue. I totally felt the characters' love, hatred, and emotions. I don't know who does Goku in the Ocean dub, but his infantile voice perfectly captured Goku's pre-active and green nature who didn't know his true origin whereas Schemmel captured Goku's pro-active side after his training with King Kai.
Goku had a couple different actors in Ocean. Ian James Corlet did Goku during the Sayin saga but quit anime dubbing during Gokus trip to Nameck. Peter Kalmis took over and voiced him in the Ocean Dub of the first three Z movies (though Ian has his own version of the tree of might) When Blue Water brought the Ocean actors back, Peter left and the late Kirby Murrow took over into the end of z
I am so glad someone else said it. I prefer the Ocean dub just for the dialogue. The Funi dub uses a lot of filler words because they have to match lip flaps, but it just sounds unnatural to speech. Ocean was able to match it, convey the emotions, AND still make it sound relatively realistic in terms of dialogue
Gunbladewarrior to the max. This is like one of my favorite things of all in the DBZ universe. And it's not even because of the episode of this, it's just when Toonami used to make trailers of their own. And this ending in the opening mixed with him breaking free of a rock Goku kicked him through on Earth was just epic. And dudes voices and screams are just on point. Makes Vegeta truly seem sneaky, sinister, and evil.
This is one of the few times that the Ocean dub was superior to the others. This is mainly because of how manacing and scary Vegeta sounded. The Funimation dub simply sounded weak, and both Kai dubs sounded remarkably forced. I love Sabat's work as Vegeta, but here and only a few others, the Ocean dub certainly stands out more.
Definitely agreed here. Sabat makes a much better anti-hero Vegeta, but when it was the "oh shit, Vegeta!" part of the story still, Ocean had it down perfectly.
*What I hear in Ocean dub* Vegeta - I'LL CATCH YOU!!! Nappa - Vegeta! Stop it, it's no use, you gotta damage it first! Vegeta - ALRIGHT THEN, YOU'RE ALL MINE!!!!! *What I hear in Remastered* Vegeta - YOU'RE FUCKING DEAD!!!!!!!!!!!!! *What I hear in Kai* Vegeta - YOU'RE FINISHED!!!!! Nappa - But Vegeta! Full restore... _Nappa used Full restore!_ Vegeta - YOU WILL PAY!!!!!!!!!!
Ocean dub wins in a lot of aspects with their dubs vs Funimation's Original and Kai censored and uncut. Plus who can forget their awesome Rock the Dragon theme. Shit is solid 10/10 with the nostalgia vibes. (Also their Voice Actors were a lot better, Gohan sounds like a child, Freeza sounds menacing, Vegeta doesn't make weird sex grunts, and their dialog isn't as cringy)
then you have team four star's version: Vegeta: "wait... that watch..., that watch wasn't a watch at all, it was some kind of dragon ball locator..., which means... Which Means!..." Ghost Nappa: *poof* "he took the dragon ball....." Vegeta: ".....aaaaaaaaaaahhh-*splash*-AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHH!!!!!!!!"
I like the "cut" versions better than "uncut". Even if the original Japanese just had him swearing repeatedly (I don't know if it did or not, but I remember some scenes with Piccolo are like that), hearing the things he was saying in the other dubs had so much more emotional power to them than hearing "damn it" over and over.
yeah in japanese anime he just says "chiksho" over and over again pretty lame to be honest hahaha in the manga, though, he pretty mich says exactly what the remastered version says!
Sabat in both of the Kai Dubs does pretty good with the actual "Wrath" part, better than his original attempt. Think I prefer the Nicktoons "YOU WILL PAAAAY!!" tho instead of "DAMN IT ALL!!" Has more of that wrathful energy instead of comically angry. Drummond is still probably my favorite though.
Imma try to combine all these Vegeta: That was no watch, it was some kind of Dragon Ball Radar. *Goes into rage mode* I’ll kill you all for this, you won’t escape MY WRAAATH!! Filthy double crossers, I’LL GET YOU! YOUR ALL MINE!!!
People can say what they like about the ocean dub, but Vegeta's voice and dialogue was far more intimidating. Funimation Vegeta sounds like he's one cigarette away from a tracheotomy.
Each of the dubbing has it’s own respectable layouts. I grew up watching the original Dragon Ball Z rather than shows it just Kai or Ocean dub, but each of the acting is pretty good. Brian Drummond portrayed Vegeta really well for the whole series in the ocean dub; The way he takes a roll of a really menacing and cold-hearted fighter was played well. Then we got Christopher Sabat, with how we portrayed Vegeta in the original remastered version and the Kai version for a pretty good run ( much respect for his work might I add doing two different dubbings of the show). He also gives a menacing and cold hearted character as well, making him suitable for the character as well. Honestly, it’s hard to tell which one is better in my opinion, but I really find entertainment of the acting from each of them.
*Ocean:* Brian Drummond is a legend. *Remastered:* Chris, go home-you’re drunk. *Kai (Nicktoons):* Holds up just fine. *Kai (Uncut):* “Where’s that DAMN fourth Chaos Emerald?”

Music and dialogue is way worse. I especially love his Vegito which is Vegeta doing a Goku voice. Where as fusion dance is still two voices.
@@JKurayami Yeah ngl the fusion part was awesome. But his Vegeta didn’t change since he started, there wasn’t any acting involved, he still sounded a lot like a villain and he sounded too sinister for me to take his atonement as an act of redemption.
"I'LL GET YOU FOR THIS! YOU WON'T ESCAPE MY WRAAAAAAAATH!!! I'LL GET YOU! YOU'RE ALL MINE!!!!!" Ocean Dub reigns supreme when this scene is concerned. Unforgettable entertainment.
Brian Drummond's voice in this scene legitimately scared me as a kid. He was the best Vegeta hands down
Voice wise, but Chris made Vegeta more bad ass.. I mean look at android saga
I still think he's the best English VA Vegeta. Sabat has gotten WAY better since the cringefest that was his first DBZ outing, but he still doesn't compare to Brian. And his natural voice tone (when he voices Vegeta and Piccolo) is just unpleasant to me. But hey at least his skills improved

Ocean's angry vegeta always struck me as a very well preformed dub
I would've loved to see hear the Ocean dub with the remastered version's lines. hearing Bruce Drummond yelling "I'll kill you" would be fucking terrifying.
DoomedAtBirth I Know!!! ocean dub was extremely censored imagine if Brian Drummond voiced Vegeta throughout the frieza saga uncensored omg! I feel slightly ripped off
OCEAN IS GOD TIER BRO !!. The echos is sooo insane !. The sound design with the echo, the sound of the flying while being at at it and the screeeeeam bro !!!. Chills down my spine. Is just terrifying and make you being so scare with how intense he was
hes done this scene so many times hes finally like DAMN IT ALL!!
Brian Drummund’s voice acting is literally amazing. You can tell it came from the heart.
Ocean dub went to shit IMO after the first two sagas. I couldn't stand watching later episodes of the ocean dub
As a lover of Kai, I do agree. Someone needs to compile all of his screams onto a metal song for a good workout track. Lmao.
I love Sabat and Funimation, but Brian Drummond really knocked it out of the park with his cocky, unhinged performance as early Vegeta. I can't imagine Drummond voicing Vegeta after he calms down, though. It would be... weird.
Cameron Moore Didn't Drummond voice Sonic for the Adventure games?
candykanethunderbolt I agree, the early Ocean were epic at best, but the later Ocean was really overrated, I can’t stand that they use their own sound effects over the original sound effects too much, a true headache, the soundtrack choice is even awful but a few were good, still wished they could’ve have Faulconers permissions to use his soundtracks like Funimation used it and some voices were even overrated like Goku and Trunks for example, Trunks sounded the worst. But guys like Brian Drummond, Scott McNeil and Terry Klassan were the only ones bare able and still underrated.
Nothing will ever beat Lanipator’s broken rage
Mans literally damaged his voice screaming "FUUUUUUUUCK" for that scene. He deserves the praise
I think that his would be second in terms of comparison to the rest of these - the intensity matches Drummond, but goes to the funny instead of the chilling in the best possible way
There is a reason what Sabat said if he dies Lanny can have Vegeta. Man kills it every time.

Brian's Vegeta at no point in the early DBZ sagas ever scared me or made me feel anything, but by Cell arc he mastered the anti-hero voice and fits Vegeta way more.
ocean dub is the best no question about it, so much more rage and core shaking
Indeed
Annoying doesn't equal “more rage and core shaking”
*+Dont know* Very good! Here's a gold star! But, I don't know how that correlates with the epic performance of Brian Drummond.

You know isn't just the acting but I think the dialogue was better in the ocean because I can hear Chris say the dub dialogue in my head and it does sound better.
Eh. Sabat improved himself in Kai. It definitely lives up to the ocean dub

even after all these years the ocean dub of this scene still sends chills down my spine
@@Xidipsum that shi sucks ion how people prefer that bums voice
I often insist on Ocean until after Namek

#Toonami
I will ALWAYS remember this one.
Because it's the first and it's a classic! This is how Vegeta originally sounded to most of us!
LilPrince Killa Nostalgia overload....XD
Gunbladewarrior to the max. This is like one of my favorite things of all in the DBZ universe. And it's not even because of the episode of this, it's just when Toonami used to make trailers of their own. And this ending in the opening mixed with him breaking free of a rock Goku kicked him through on Earth was just epic. And dudes voices and screams are just on point. Makes Vegeta truly seem sneaky, sinister, and evil.
*(Manga, 90's Viz Translation)*
Vegeta: "Stupid... Little... Bastards! Think you can play with ME-- AND LIVE?!!!"
Yeah, I even was getting goose bumps from Ocean Vegeta
Definitely agreed here. Sabat makes a much better anti-hero Vegeta, but when it was the "oh shit, Vegeta!" part of the story still, Ocean had it down perfectly.
Nah oceans the best seems like a little mad person had to much internet.
Ilya Kipnis Exactly what I think! Ocean was perfect for villianous Vegeta, but Sabat owned the likable/anti-hero Vegeta.
*What I hear in Ocean dub*
Vegeta - I'LL CATCH YOU!!!
Nappa - Vegeta! Stop it, it's no use, you gotta damage it first!

Vegeta - YOU'RE FUCKING DEAD!!!!!!!!!!!!!
*What I hear in Kai*
Vegeta - YOU'RE FINISHED!!!!!

The music in the ocean dub fit so menacingly
"Uh, Krillin... do you hear that?" - Gohan
"I feel that" - Krillin
Only thing Ocean wins i guess
the recoome fight i think was pretty good when he blew up on him in the beginning. that was another scene i respected in the ocean dub version
Um "it's over 9000!!!!" ????
You understAAAAAAAAAND?
Ocean dub wins in a lot of aspects with their dubs vs Funimation's Original and Kai censored and uncut.
Plus who can forget their awesome Rock the Dragon theme. Shit is solid 10/10 with the nostalgia vibes. (Also their Voice Actors were a lot better, Gohan sounds like a child, Freeza sounds menacing, Vegeta doesn't make weird sex grunts, and their dialog isn't as cringy)
Overall better voice acting until Kai.
The damn uncut Kai dub was so damn edgy.

I like the "cut" versions better than "uncut". Even if the original Japanese just had him swearing repeatedly (I don't know if it did or not, but I remember some scenes with Piccolo are like that), hearing the things he was saying in the other dubs had so much more emotional power to them than hearing "damn it" over and over.
yeah in japanese anime he just says "chiksho" over and over again pretty lame to be honest hahaha in the manga, though, he pretty mich says exactly what the remastered version says!
yep ocean is still my favorite

Yup
So the uncut version of DBZ Kai is the Shadow the Hedgehog of Dragon Ball dubs, everybody gets a healthy sprinkling of damns in their vocabulary
god keep coming back to this video and the ocean part.......no other dub can even beat it its just so badass
Here from DBZA Creator's commentary.
Brian Drummond Prince Vegeta sounds like he's gone ULTIMATE BERSERK when pissed off!
Ocean-"You're Mine!"
Funi-"You're Dead!"
Kai-"You're Finished!"
TFS-"AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!"
Sabat in both of the Kai Dubs does pretty good with the actual "Wrath" part, better than his original attempt. Think I prefer the Nicktoons "YOU WILL PAAAAY!!" tho instead of "DAMN IT ALL!!"
Has more of that wrathful energy instead of comically angry.
Drummond is still probably my favorite though.
Ocean dub feels truly evil and unhinged. Like he's actually going manic with rage
Ghost Nappa: He took the dragon ball.
Imma try to combine all these
Vegeta: That was no watch, it was some kind of Dragon Ball Radar.

"YOU'RE FINISHED!!! DAMN IT ALL" XXXXDDDDDD
Ocean/Brian Drummond!!
Drummond for the fucking win
