@@KINGD353 you are severely downplaying the fact that everytime someone talks while they’re fighting, they’re talking at hypersonic speeds. and somehow everyone in the peanut gallery can hear and perfectly comprehend it
It feels so nostalgic hearing the original voices of these characters after all these years of watching DBZ abridged by teamfourstar. I remembered seeing this fight for the first time on TV and it was the most amazing transformation of goku going super saiyan. This was where the show shows the raw power display of his hair going yellow and it was incredible.
It's not a theroy, but that's not the problem people have with the fight, many scenes were edited out here, if you add all of them plus all the dialogue, the battle is way longer than 5 minutes. And dialogue is the one thing that needs to happen at normal speed, as it needs to travel at the speed of sound.
Speed of Sound is the speed it takes for words to travel from 1 person to another & is not a fixed speed by any means. Speed of Speaking however is limited only by how quickly you can exhale words. Do you not hear how slowly Goku & Frieza talk? You can use UA-cam itself to listen to what they say at x2 speed & it sounds like a normal pace. Them speaking at 10x Speed isn't a stretch by any means. If you cut out the filler & pause the timer for everything that isn't Namek it's plausible & if you want you could always say Frieza was wrong about the time it took. Hunter x Hunter during Chimera Ant Arc the phenomenon of time slowing down during moments of intense combat is discussed, which may be related to what happened on Namek. Dragon Ball Super also has the entire Tournament Power flow at a rate of 1 minute being about 1 Episode in length.
This actually convinced me it's possible to do an actual edit for 7 or 8 minutes, and still make sense. Frieza himself admits 5 minutes have passed and gives the planet two more. He likely would have said this at 6 minutes, and get 3 more.
I like how Vegeta’s first instinct when he found out he was alive to try to fight the guy that killed him without even training or anything, I mean I know he got a zenkai but damn bro

@@SoulBro12 No, Goku didn't give Cell a second chance. People often take the scene where Goku gave Cell a Senzu Bean out of context. Ironically things would have been worse if Goku didn't give Cell the Senzu Bean because Cell wouldn't be able to make Gohan snap. Also, Goku wanted Gohan to kill Cell. He even yells at him to do it. the funny part of this being only "5 minutes long" is that the manga really reads that way, but the anime really had to extend itself to fit a very long time because it was almost caught up with the manga.
Running DnD with new players, I gave them like 3 chances not to fight this elite group of bandits and they kept trying to fight them, and I have him say "you fools!" and my friends all meme that line to hell lol
I love how this condensed an entire summer of episodes into 5 minutes. One episode is usually someone grunting and powering up while everyone sweats in disbelief.
Dude there were, legit, at least 5-7 episodes in this arc that was just power ups 😂 We were such stans we still came back the next day to watch the next episode
You shoulda made it more like 7+ minutes. At a given moment, even Frieza was like 'Most planets would have blown by now, but this is a tough old bird! I'll give her 2 more minutes.'
I wanted to call bs on this because the original dub was kinda shitty with translation on a lot of things, but this is true. Just checked the official color version of it, and Frieza's exact words are: "This planet can't have more than two or three minutes left." So going by that, yeah this should have been 7-8 minutes long instead. Maybe 7.5 as a compromise.
1:48 Here, Frieza says that "most planets would've blown by now", implying that the five minutes he gave it already passed by then. Just goes to show how robust of a planet Namek was, or perhaps Frieza just didn't put enough juice into his ki blast.
1:48 I always took that line as Frieza confirming that the 5 minutes had already passed, and Namek is just extra durable so he adds 2 more minutes to his estimate
Goku: Gives frieza "some" of his energy. Frieza: Thinks to himself "I can kill Goku with a portion of his own energy which he gave to me as a gift." Goku: "YOU FOOL!"
As crazy as it sounds, he could. If Goku's guard had been down completely. Frieza's lackey (whatever his name is) lethally wounded Goku with a ring gun in Resurrection F.
@@AizensPlan We never got any information about how strong that ring beam was though. It probably functions like a ki blaster like all the other Frieza Force losers use, so it uses the ki of the person wielding it. At that point in the series even the fodder people were planet busters easily, so if Sorbet was at least Saiyan Saga Vegeta level and his beam is more like a Piccolo type special beam canon attack that pierces defenses then it makes sense how a relaxed Goku would get tapped by it. Otherwise it was just dumb writing.
@@nergal2931 excuse me? buu didn't come from earth, he came from somewhere else and was dropped off at earth to destroy, but bibidi was killed and only in the present did babidi arrive and release buu
I love how it sounds like Goku stumbles through his first line to sound cool. "Five minutes is all I'll need to beat you, and get off this planet... With my friends.... On my spaceship!"
It's interesting. Some of the lines are from the original dub but others aren't. I think it's cut together from a couple of different Funimation dubs. There are like 3 or 4 at this point.
Even in the Saiyan Arc when Yamcha fought the Saibaman, from Gohan’s perspective it had appeared they’d vanished. Piccolo had to instruct him to ‘let his eyes kind of go out of focus’ in order to see them.
actually this line is exclusive to the dub and was not present in the japanese version or the original manga, so it really was only added as a matter to make the audience expect more
This video reminded me just how incredible this arc truly is. Goku, the happiest man in the universe was finally pushed too far. And Frieza paid the price. Goku's whole demeanor is shifted, he spoke precisely and totally filled with a controlled rage. Perfect.
Yeah, sure. He was finally pushed to kill Frieza after all this, definitely... So what about the hundreds of Red Ribbon Army soldiers Goku had already killed by this point? All of whom were guilty of much less than Frieza? Dr. Gero's entire motivation for even wanting to kill Goku is to avenge his son, who Goku killed!
@@seprithlicastia463 That's character progression to you. When he was young and immature he killed with no regards. Now that he has a wife and a son, he is not willing to kill anymore. He saw Tenchihan and Piccolo, who were bad guys once becoming his best allies and friends and good people after their defeat. As an adult Goku is willing to "give the other cheek" hoping that his enemies will change too.
@@BranBal I can sort of see that argument, sure, but Goku was not a mindless killer even before all that. There are plenty of very dangerous people he never killed even though it was perfectly within his ability.
Maybe I'm misremembering (which would be embarrassing seeing as I watch the show atleast once a year) but after this battle... I dont remember goku doing the whole "I'll give you once last chance"
@@OGM_OriginalGameMusic He gradually shifted away from the "generic good guy hero that wants to spare everyone" approach towards more of a "progression-obsessed warrior that only wants to get stronger and will gladly spare anyone as long as they can come back for another good fight later" deal, but aside from the dialogue differences it's functionally very similar. He heals Cell mid-battle with a senzu bean, holds back against both Buu and Majin Vegeta until forced to resolve the situation later after the whole planet has been murdered (and even then wishes to reincarnate Buu shortly after), puts a hit from Hit out on himself and is just generally way too casual about multiple universes getting destroyed in the later Super arcs (most of which again came from his just wanting to fight stronger opponents for fun). Oh yeah, then resurrects Freiza yet again and sets him loose on the universe even though that guy is as evil and powerful as ever. Either way it's definitely a shift in character though, so you're not wrong. It's just that the outcome is still very often to let the villain walk away to a bit more villainy before he's eventually forced to actually put an end to them.
With this perspective, it makes more sense why dbz villains don't get interrupted during power ups, it's because to them, in real time powering up takes less than a second
This is what it’s like seeing a DBZ fight from a regular Earthling’s eyes. I think this is how Hercule perceived the fight between the Goku and Cell. Thank you!
This is even slower, during the Saiyan saga Gohan couldn't see Yamcha and the Saibaman fighting until he focused, 100% Frieza is 100 000 times stronger than a Saibaman (120 mln vs 1.2k)
Can we all appreciate the audacity that Frieza knows the planet will blow up in 5 minutes after an attack like that because he’s CLEARLY done this a million times before?
Honestly I'm not surprised with how evil he was, imagine from the time you're born, with no work at all you are more powerful than almost everyone around you.

Friendly reminder that Frieza SURVIVES this. The dude is unimaginably durable. Probably has the highest non-hacked (like Cell's regeneration) durability in the show.
And while it's not canon, Cooler survived being just a severed head in space until he hit the Big Gete star. That entire family is just built different
@@cosmosofinfinity I don't know how canon it is, but the *show* actually had scenes where Frieza was floating in space all busted up, and King Cold flew through the debris searching for him. Brought him onboard, and we *saw* him get rebuilt.
Cell only had such cracked durability because of Freeza's DNA in the first place. Piccolo gave him the regeneration ability so he could recover from having his entire top half blown off, but Freeza gave him the durability to live long enough to use it.
All of Freiza's begging, as well as attacking Goku after taking his energy was actually strategic. He was trying to stall his enemy so he wouldn't get off Namek in time.
This is a neat idea, so I liked your comment, but I don't think it can be read that way. Frieza would certainly stall by talking, but he would never beg just for that. He was pleading because he convinced himself that he wasn't defeated if he could trick Goku into giving him another chance to attack.
I've always just assumed from the way their power levels are portrayed that they're in slow motion and just get faster and faster as time goes..its nice to know this is actually Canon by the creator.
In the original Dragonball this is shown pretty early on in a fight between Kuririn and the disguised Muten Roshi. A quick exchange, taking one or two seconds or so is broken down by them both for the sake of the audience.
Or maybe forgiveness is always the answer, The reason why this is so popular is because contrary to popular belief to forgive is the right thing to do, after all even frieza helped in the tournament of power
Owikawa, oh, it must be really hard to think of that, wow, I can’t tell you how long I’ve spent thinking about that joke this is totally copied, I mean, you can’t think of this stuff so it must be copied.

He was mature in his decisions to spare his opponents. Also he really pissed Frieza off more by telling him how defeated he was and cannot do anything about it. He is compassionate and insulting at the same time
@@c.galindo9639 I don't personally find sparing strong fighters who are known mass murderers because you want to fight them again to be mature. Don't get me wrong, I love Vegeta, but Goku's Saiyan pride could easily have killed thousands or millions more in the case of Veggie and Frieza. Invoking Godwin's law, it's pretty stupid to say "Okay Space Hitler, I'll let you live, since you asked nicely." It'd be one thing if he'd somehow completely dismantled the Frieza Force but, like, he didn't, obviously. I've heard "Well he had every reason to believe Frieza would die on Namek anyway," but then why not just do it yourself to be sure? He's Space. Hitler. TL:DR I don't see this as maturity, I see it as selfishly wanting to fight stronger opponents, particularly influenced by being a Super Saiyan at the time.

That's so real
Ironically, this fits the theory that all the combat was super-speed.
It’s not a theory it’s just what happened. There’s even a gag about how the fights look to an outsider in the original dragon ball
Imagine Dragon Ball Súper with Goku MUI without slow motion

@@SoulBro12 No, Goku didn't give Cell a second chance. People often take the scene where Goku gave Cell a Senzu Bean out of context. What happened was that Goku knew that Gohan had the power to defeat Cell. The only problem was that Gohan had to snap to beat Cell. Ironically things would have been worse if Goku didn't give Cell the Senzu Bean because Cell wouldn't be able to make Gohan snap. Also, Goku wanted Gohan to kill Cell. He even yells at him to do it. You shoulda made it more like 7+ minutes. At a given moment, even Frieza was like 'Most planets would have blown by now, but this is a tough old bird! I'll give her 2 more minutes.'
my exact thought
I wanted to call bs on this because the original dub was kinda shitty with translation on a lot of things, but this is true. Just checked the official color version of it, and Frieza's exact words are: "This planet can't have more than two or three minutes left."
So going by that, yeah this should have been 7-8 minutes long instead. Maybe 7.5 as a compromise.
And showed the clock adding more time on.
Yea, and you can tell some of the fight was cut out, so making the clock 7-8 minutes total would allow more hyper speed movement
TRUE so it was actually 7 minutes
1:48
Here, Frieza says that "most planets would've blown by now", implying that the five minutes he gave it already passed by then. Just goes to show how robust of a planet Namek was, or perhaps Frieza just didn't put enough juice into his ki blast.
Which is interesting because in base form he was blowing up planets instantly with a finger.
@@sean9267 eh, tbf he probably did "just enough" to blow it up in 5, but I suppose Namek just built different.

I know it's not canon but cooler in xenoverse 2 say that frieza didn't go all out in that attack out of fear of being caught in the explosion.
1:48 I always took that line as Frieza confirming that the 5 minutes had already passed, and Namek is just extra durable so he adds 2 more minutes to his estimate

When he was young and immature he killed with no regards.
Now that he has a wife and a son, he is not willing to kill anymore.

"for like 10 years" It's actually 11-
@@jaydeflayme2890 frieza dont have the same voice actor.
It was linda who voiced this dbz, while chris voiced db super and kai. Also chris is dead, so we might get another va
Agreed 🤣

This was peak dbz, just 2 absolute units beating the shit out of each other
I feel like this is the speed they are actually supposed to be fighting at.
Thats the assumption given throughout the series, any of these fights we are to assume we are just like the human characters, unable to comprehend the speed, thus its "slowed down" for us to watch
@@ubermaster1 yeah i wonder has anyone even fucking paid any attention at all to a lot of stuff going on?
@@ubermaster1 yeah though it doesn't add up when regular humans like bulma and chichi can watch them fight at SSJ2, SSJ3 or even SSB if we're counting Super

Bro the speed they fight is faster than this by millions of times
Goku: _spares frieza_
Frieza: and I took that personally

He destroyed his home planet , killed his Best friend , and Goku still showed him compassion. That’s true kindness right there.
Just wish he showed half of that kindness to his family
That's not kindness lmao it's being a idiot
@@niger216 It can technically be both. Stupidity due to choosing kindness.
Is it kindness to let a mass murderer go free so they can find more victims?
@@Iruka1991 I'd hardly call sparing the life of mass murderer "kindness"
Parunga not listening to Freeza because he said his wish in English, but reiterating Dende's wish aloud in English just to rub salt into the would will never not kill me
Frieza be like: my time has come
Goku: **gives freiza energy**
Frieza: *your* time has come
Goku: *does nothing*
Frieza: my time has come
