To everyone asking if it works on a pedal board. YES. All it does is transmit the audio signal. You can plug it directly into your pedal. It has onboard systems to output the audio signal at the correct gain. It won't be quieter than a cable, and should keep it's volume until it loses signal. When it loses signal you will just have a terrible sound but the volume will be the same.
Let me answer every single question left unanswered below in one sentence: this works exactly the same way as a guitar cable but there are about 6ms of added latency which is barely noticeable on a hardware rig. Now the "gravy" clarifications: Yes, it works going into pedals, or a pedal board, or into your DAW audio interface, or even a iRig-like device for mobile devices. But latency is cumulative for software applications/monitoring, so it's a better live tool than recording tool unless you use zero-latency monitoring for your recording. Yes, it sounds great. Yes, 5 hours is enough battery time. Yes, it will fit your [fill in the blank] guitar. Yes, it is cheaper than any other comparable wireless system I'm aware of. No, it is not durable (its plastic), so thrash rockers can keep their cables. One other downside -- putting these near a wifi router can interfere (causing breakup in sound) -- you'll need to get away from the router by about 5 feet or so.
Dude thank you!! You are the shit!! This is the answer I’ve been looking for, I couldn’t figure out why I was hearing static on it? My damn router is in the same damn room
I've been wireless for yrs. Built a board in last month. Just tried cable for first time and sound was terrible. Big loss of treble. Thing is first pedal Wampler dB-1 buffer_boost. Is a cable different impedance than wireless? I dont know but wireless sounds awesome and is good for 200'
Regarding WiFi routers interfering with the signal of the wireless system. Well, there are now guitar wireless systems that work in a different and less-crowded frequency such as 5.8Ghz. So it can solve that little issue
People are such jerks. Thanks for the hours of free quality content you put on your channel. Hopefully you do start making some decent money off some product placement in the future.
I use this wireless system live and in rehearsals for my band. The only time I've ever had an issue with it is when we'd play a club where the wireless router was close to the stage. It'd give a little interference that'd cause some drop out, sometimes remedied by channel switching, sometimes not. Some people mentioned cross talk between other wireless units, but I haven't had that issue. All in all, I'd say that it's a great system and I'd recommend it.
I bought one a few weeks back on Amazon for £115.00, works great. One thing to note, I didn't pay enough attention to the fact that it was actually being supplied, through Amazon, by Xvive Direct. As they are based in China it took just under 2 weeks to arrive. No big deal but it is amazing how quickly you become used to things arriving next day or the day after. Still a great product, the only reservation is, will being made of plastic affect it's life, if that life is spent "on the road".
I was thinking the same thing. 100 ft across a stage vs. 100ft through walls are two different things. It held up but I did think it got a bit fainter but still overall good
You can be 100 feet away from your first pedal, then have that one 100 feet away from your next pedal, and so on, until you're at the other side of the world still annoying your neighbours.
I can't stand cables or wires. I damaged my old guitar by pulling and stepping on the cord all the time so I went wireless for about 100$. There is no sound difference. Just have to keep charging AA batteries for it. Well worth it.
Ive been using the AKG wireless bug system for yrs. Got a couple of them used of EBay. I love them for switching guitars fast. And keeping cables off floor and out of way. My rig is noisier with a cable plugged in.
I've had one for about a year and a half and it works very well. I don't gig with it but have taken it to jams without any problems. The only problem I've had is that it interferes with my TV. I don't have cable, just broadcast and it interferes with that. I don't know what would happen if more than one person was using one at the same time. I guess you would all have to be on different channels.
I just purchased a pair of these. And in regards to them working from a wireless standpoint, they’re fine. However, I was not satisfied with the tone. They definitely affected both drive and sustain. So I was highly disappointed. Will be returning them
You should try running a cable from your amp, to your pedal board, and then run the transmitter from the output of the pedal board to the guitar. That would make for an interesting video... Because I might use this to gig if it sounds fine through a board.
Derp Derpson why would you run it from the output of the pedal board to the guitar? Surely you mean the output of the guitar to the input of the board!?
I built my board after I been using wireless for a long time . Keep mine transmitter on the amp so I got cable running from wireless transmitter to first pedal and 2 cables out to separate amps. I actually use 3 ft cables to keep length short since I can go far enough away with the wireless. Everything is in its place away from anything that could cause noise. My system is real quiet unless I have too many drives engaged at once. Same as it should be if I used a cable all the time.
Thanks for this. Have you done any testing to see if other wireless sources (particularly ones that operate at 2.4 GHz, like the Xvive) cause any inference with the Xvive? For example, mobile phones, other Xvive's being used at the same time, in the same (rehearsal) space, and so on?
I bought one of these and it’s been stellar. I have a Strat with active pickups and no problems. So I bought another for the Marshall mini stack in my den. Had a friend over, I was playing my Les Paul through a Line 6 Spider V 60 and he was playing my Taylor 214, same room no problems at all, except I had to turn my guitar down.
Lee Abraham I figured. I have to fight just to play along with my tunes at home. It's still a cool thing tho. And there is a channel setting too. Do u know how to use that? I sure don't.
In the setting i play in we have 3 lead wireless mics. so are you saying if i got this it wouldn't work because there are already other wireless devices in use?
Lee Abraham But how do bands like The Rolling Stones or AC/DC or any band with 2 guitarists use these systems in concerts? Or is it a complitely different system?
OK, so I bought one. Used it 6 or 7 times and it operated flawlessly. The 8th time there was a small glitch and I ignored it. The 9th time it completely cut out from about 30 feet away. After that it just sputtered if I moved a foot. Wow, talk about embarrassment on the bandstand but after some testing I learned a valuable lesson. Always make sure your battery is charged before a performance.
I have a Line 6 G-10. Inexpensive (under $200) and works fine for live shows and P&W context. Albeit I can't run around entire club or auditorium but no cables and I feel no tone loss.
it's introducing 6ms latency because it's using wi-fi 2,4 ghz band, but still, you get 6ms of latency when your ears are 2 meters away from your amp speakers, so not a big deal, unless you have some digital processing on the way which adds its own latency as well.
These work great...only issue is you're dealing with a lithium battery and they have a half-life. My unit had no issues making it through a 4 hr gig for the first year or two fully charged...now it's right on the edge of petering out the last half hour. These really aren't serviceable unless you're a complete electronics geek so you'd have to consider it a disposable unit that you get 2-3 years out of tops. The sound you get is indistinguishable from your cable...there's no dropouts or "pumping" etc.
The big question, does it work well with ACTIVE Bass/Guitars? I've read quite a bit that this system and a few similar ones struggle with Active Guitars.
Great review. looks way more convenient that my old sennheiser system. Plus to answer comments below about using with effects pedals/boards...I found that to be fully wireless and cable free...I needed two systems.
Yes, my transmitter went from my guitar into a receiver next to my pedal board on channel 1. Out from the receiver it went into my pedal chain and out into a second transmitter, which was on channel 2. That wirelessly sent the signal to the second receiver sitting on top of my Marshall head...which fed into it's input. After a while I stuck with a single setup and ran a lead out of my pedals into my Marshall head, whilst still giving me freedom to move around like a loony onstage and jump in front of the monitors now and again so i could hear what the audience was, rather than my wedge monitor.
One night, our bass player was on channel 3 of his wireless rig and our drummer going through channel 4 of his headphone microphone that he did backing vocals from. Unfortunately the venue ran parallel to a large taxi rank....We had their dispatch calls coming through the channel and into the PA...audience thought it was part of the act during the song....drummer didn't see the funny side !!!...The joys of old school wireless Georgia !
Hello and thank you for the review video. I bought a XVive U2 system after watching your video. I have two issues with it and I was wondering if you know the answer: 1. when I connect my guitar to the amp directly using a cable, I put the amp volume to 1 and it's low enough. But when I connect the XVive system I can't hear anything and I should turn up the volume to 3. Have you faced the same problem? any solution? 2. the system doesn't memorize the channels. Basically anytime I turn them on I have to do the channel setup again.
These are great. Just don't rely on the for active pickups. Been using these for almost 6 years and they seem to work on some of my instruments. On others it gives a really high pitched digital squeel which cannot be fixed.
OK for messing about I guess, but those constant crackles tend to get a bit annoying for me. Not good for live or recording. To lose the crackling you need a way more expensive system. But if you are just playing for fun its fine, although there are cheaper systems about that are just as good like Muslady.
That's pretty good, I would love to try it, i roadie for Unforgettable Fire the U2 tribute band out of NY, we currently use the line 6 wireless. we do a lot of outdoor gigs I wonder how this unit would work with all the other RF going around at outdoor gigs
Except for the fact that it pivots I think the Line 6 G-10 relay is superior due to the stowage dock having a built in charger and it having greater range.
Ive got one, They are not that great. Its not a clean sound. Play it clean without distortion. I use a Nylon Gtr and its not the same as playing with a lead. At 179 you get what you pay for. Its ok and does the job but if you want a clean sound without the noise then go either lead or by something more expensive, clean and reliable. I have an AKG wireless system. The difference this requires power as opposed to the xvive where its charged/wireless. My 2 cents worth
I use it for clean sounds on a Strat, Les Paul and a PRS - works just fine on all of them. Perhaps Elio has a dysfunctional unit, but I've used mine live, at rehearsals and for recording and it has performed remarkably well in all situations. Great value for money, too!
It doesn't really matter how far after like 30 feet lol but seriously you should test while other household items are on like when I'm playing guitar (not wireless stuff) and then stop to press the home button on my iPhone (when it's plugged in) I instantly get a lot of feedback so I would like to know if I get the same, less, or more of that static sound from using this because I am interested in buying one...
I have decided to go wireless due to getting a very nasty shock on stage while at a gig. I do not trust guitar leads anymore so my question is, is there any electrical current running though the connector or is it just battery powered? I know everyone that I sound crazy but the shock was intense and I'd rather play safely from now on. Any help would be great thanks.
I noticed that years ago Keith Richards and Ronnie Woods didn't used patch chords and wondered about the new way of transmitting what they were playing to their amps.
It's definitely not stuff like this. These cheap ones use 2.4ghz wireless, which is the same as WiFi and is prone to interference. Pros use professional grade wireless transmitters and receivers such as the Shure ULX-D system. The benefits to these are: 1. much more reliable, stable, and clean signal 2. less prone to RF interference, especially when there are multiple systems being used at the same time 3. more rugged/durable 4. longer battery life But they do cost easily $1200+ per channel, so it's up to the individual if the peace of mind is worth paying 10x the price.
any idea what the frequency is ? i ask this cause I have 2 electronic implants that recieve wireless signals. ( medical implants ) and have had Artifact sounds with other wireless signals when my Glucose monitor transmits. Also Guitar super system is awesome and has pulled a lot of random theory knowledge together for me.. thanks :)
tbh this is the best guitar channel in my opinion it not only gives the most helpful lessons but also keeps it entertaining and not so boring ps i love ur channel
Just a couple of questions, does it have any cross signal issues? Eg if there are two guitars using these or a radio mic is used do things stay sending to there designated ports? Does it do a spinal tap and start picking up other signals like cab companies or the police? Also how long does the battery last?
doegy Whail I've heard a few accounts of it picking up noise in places with heavy WiFi use. I've played a couple shows with it and used it in the practice space and so far I've had no issues whatsoever.
Really didn't need to see you playing your ax in the shower... What do you do for a living? Can you play some Robin Trower psychedelic blues? If so, I'll buy tickets to your concerts. You rock those strings really good!
As long as the tone stays, it has a long battery life (like maybe two hours +) Doesn’t cut out randomly or stop working suddenly with no reason like cheaper options do And fulfills this reliably then it’s gonna be a purchase from me
I have one of these. I can't play with these most of the time because the signal cuts off when its near internet router or when bluetooth is connected with other device. I really like the product when the signal is smooth but doesn't work all the time.
And yeah I bought on impulse( like everything I do) anyway I like it but mine doesn't work near as good as this one. It cuts out and the big thing is... I've got this db boost switch on one of my Les Pauls. Man it does not like that. It starts to squeal and sputter. I also only use Bluetooth for my tunes nowadays. It doesn't seem to like you playing along with that stuff either. Interference big time. So imagine on stage. Bluetooth every where I'm sure. I bet they'll work it out in a generation or two tho.
This is a great product at the beginning. Their rather fragile and the battery life diminishes dramatically over time. Drop outs are common. I've tried two of these from different sellers. Same problems with both.
Does this work with a guitar that doesn’t have power to run the pickups and whatnot ie. a hollow bodied electric that gets phantom power from the cable? If not, do you know of any wireless system that does provide that phantom power?
I tought it was great.. used it with a les paul.. until i bought a musicman luke 3 wich has a 9v battery in the back for the db boost. And basically when used with a guitar that has active pickups theres a horrible line noise.. so dont use it anymore..
mine breaks up always now. batteries don't last and you cant replace them :( or can you? Doesn't make sense. $150.00 Didn't last two years. Buying a cheaper one for around $50.00 with 5.8 instead of 2.4 everything runs on 2.4

Please up-vote this. It's so obvious, but apparently this needs to be boosted to the top of the comments.

How does it handle low input impedance fuzzes? They don’t like buffers, so I guess they probably don’t like these things?

Not bad if the signal can travel 100ft through walls. Is it me, or was it starting to wash out at the 100ft mark?
I was thinking the same thing. 100 ft across a stage vs. 100ft through walls are two different things. It held up but I did think it got a bit fainter but still overall good
Kyle Olin it was the battery
That was the camera, not the Xvive.
Why the hell would you end up 100 feet from your amp?
more important question, why dyou expect a wall between you and your amp?
can you use it with pedals ? i mean four of them , all wireless , moving around with pedal ?
-T-X-M- it would be fun
Devrim Odabaşı the way I would is connect the input on the last pedal
You can be 100 feet away from your first pedal, then have that one 100 feet away from your next pedal, and so on, until you're at the other side of the world still annoying your neighbours.
SheepHair, You know I actually wonder if that would work, because on paper it should work :P
the amp to pedal would be with cable and the end of the pedal to guitar you can put your wireless
I can't stand cables or wires. I damaged my old guitar by pulling and stepping on the cord all the time so I went wireless for about 100$. There is no sound difference. Just have to keep charging AA batteries for it. Well worth it.
try xvive U2 next time
Have you heard about the xvive u2? I hear it's a great wireless alternative.
yes,it's great wireless
Ive been using the AKG wireless bug system for yrs. Got a couple of them used of EBay. I love them for switching guitars fast. And keeping cables off floor and out of way. My rig is noisier with a cable plugged in.
Much appreciated, Tyler! Also, I used my ESP LTD White Zombie with its EMGs and it worked great with no problems from the XVive!

I didn't notice any at all!

You should try running a cable from your amp, to your pedal board, and then run the transmitter from the output of the pedal board to the guitar. That would make for an interesting video... Because I might use this to gig if it sounds fine through a board.

For a wireless, it's actually pretty cheap. Amazon has them for $150. My SHURE system was a hell of a lot more than that.
Mud Dauber Studios And works better!
Can I add multiple transmitters? As like is it possible to have one receiver have 2 guitars (transmitters) at the same time? Hope it makes sense?

Except for the fact that it pivots I think the Line 6 G-10 relay is superior due to the stowage dock having a built in charger and it having greater range.
That's a beautiful house!!!
Thanks for posting. My first thought was what about when you want to play really clean, which I do a lot.
I use it for clean sounds on a Strat, Les Paul and a PRS - works just fine on all of them.
Perhaps Elio has a dysfunctional unit, but I've used mine live, at rehearsals and for recording and it has performed remarkably well in all situations.
Great value for money, too!
does it work for acoustic as well? I am thinking it would. I may have to look into this little toy. Thanks for the review
Yep!
Update? Have you been using it? I bought it and it was terrible. Sound was choppy just 3 feet from receiver.
Great video, helped me make up my mind.
Sweet! This is an entirely new way to play with myself in the shower.
🤣
Hell yeah! This is perfect for jumping around in circles endlessly on stage like a child while playing and not get fucked up with the cable
1:37 Holy shit that move was awesome.
Great!! Love it! and neighbors garden?
what does the channel do? How do u know you're on the right channel?
I have decided to go wireless due to getting a very nasty shock on stage while at a gig. I do not trust guitar leads anymore so my question is, is there any electrical current running though the connector or is it just battery powered? I know everyone that I sound crazy but the shock was intense and I'd rather play safely from now on. Any help would be great thanks.
Cool, but I got a question, does it mess with your tone (specially when you are 100 feet away)?
do you recommend it for professional work!?
Where does the sound come out of? The amp? If you are so far away from the amp how can you hear what you are playing??
I noticed that years ago Keith Richards and Ronnie Woods didn't used patch chords and wondered about the new way of transmitting what they were playing to their amps.
It's definitely not stuff like this. These cheap ones use 2.4ghz wireless, which is the same as WiFi and is prone to interference. Pros use professional grade wireless transmitters and receivers such as the Shure ULX-D system. The benefits to these are:
1. much more reliable, stable, and clean signal
2. less prone to RF interference, especially when there are multiple systems being used at the same time
3. more rugged/durable
4. longer battery life
But they do cost easily $1200+ per channel, so it's up to the individual if the peace of mind is worth paying 10x the price.
that's pretty kwl. i had a wireless system years ago but sold it because it was a lot to carry around. this looks real simple to use and also small
any idea what the frequency is ? i ask this cause I have 2 electronic implants that recieve wireless signals. ( medical implants )
and have had Artifact sounds with other wireless signals when my Glucose monitor transmits. Also Guitar super system is awesome and has pulled a lot of random theory knowledge together for me.. thanks :)
battery life?
If the whole band uses these devices, do they interfere with each other? Does wi-fi or mobile signal interfere?
what amp is that? your tone is great
Is it as good or better in quality than a normal cable ?
Ah c'mon ! How could people not like this video ?!
Thank you MIW
tbh this is the best guitar channel in my opinion it not only gives the most helpful lessons but also keeps it entertaining and not so boring
ps i love ur channel
Does it work good for a bass guitar?
of course it works! 😊
SR 0 um... no... he doesn’t...
The shower door slowly shutting was a masterpiece, lol!
How do you compare this with the Nux B2 Wireless? Any difference in latency?
Dude that's an awesome system I'll look into it
Correct me if im wrong but your signal becomes digital as your analog pedals and expensive amp right?
the art is fantastic!!
Really didn't need to see you playing your ax in the shower...
What do you do for a living?
Can you play some Robin Trower psychedelic blues? If so, I'll buy tickets to your concerts. You rock those strings really good!
As long as the tone stays, it has a long battery life (like maybe two hours +)
Doesn’t cut out randomly or stop working suddenly with no reason like cheaper options do
And fulfills this reliably then it’s gonna be a purchase from me
id like to try going from a remote pedal board to an amp...you need two sys..that would be cool
How can you connect a pedal when you use wireless guitar system?
can you change the battery in these? I have them and they are less than a year old and wont stay charged for more than about 2 hours.
I have one of these. I can't play with these most of the time because the signal cuts off when its near internet router or when bluetooth is connected with other device. I really like the product when the signal is smooth but doesn't work all the time.
If the wireless receiver is connected to processor, processor to Amp via wire, it would work fine, isn't it?
And yeah I bought on impulse( like everything I do) anyway I like it but mine doesn't work near as good as this one. It cuts out and the big thing is... I've got this db boost switch on one of my Les Pauls. Man it does not like that. It starts to squeal and sputter. I also only use Bluetooth for my tunes nowadays. It doesn't seem to like you playing along with that stuff either. Interference big time. So imagine on stage. Bluetooth every where I'm sure. I bet they'll work it out in a generation or two tho.
Would this work for bass?
This is a great product at the beginning. Their rather fragile and the battery life diminishes dramatically over time. Drop outs are common. I've tried two of these from different sellers. Same problems with both.
Thanks man, good helpful video👍
Dude, it’s a wireless receiver that talks through frequency, as long as the receiver is picking up signal it will sound the same from any distance
does it work on a pedalboard?
I got the xvive about a year ago and yeah it's amazing. I love the easiness all around and no delay with great feedback
Does this work with a guitar that doesn’t have power to run the pickups and whatnot ie. a hollow bodied electric that gets phantom power from the cable? If not, do you know of any wireless system that does provide that phantom power?
Is the product from the Philippines?
Does anyone here own this product? Does it worth to buy? Do you have problems if more than on of the band members use it?
do a comparison between cable and the wireless system please
I tought it was great.. used it with a les paul.. until i bought a musicman luke 3 wich has a 9v battery in the back for the db boost. And basically when used with a guitar that has active pickups theres a horrible line noise.. so dont use it anymore..
Would the sound be clean enough for upright bass (contrabass)?
mine breaks up always now. batteries don't last and you cant replace them :( or can you? Doesn't make sense. $150.00 Didn't last two years. Buying a cheaper one for around $50.00 with 5.8 instead of 2.4 everything runs on 2.4
