The fact this guitar was Mike Bloomfield’s puts it on a whole other level. He’s not as known as his peers to the modern guitarist (sadly), but he was arguably just as influential as all the other OGs - so to go _from_ Hendrix _to_ Mike Bloomfield is like handing from one guitar god to the next. Amazing piece of history
I'm a left handed player. I started playing on a black, 1960's inspired strat (not a Fender, I think it was an SX or something cheap like that) which I would just flip the strings since I didn't even know lefty guitars existed as a kid. It was uncomfortable to play, but I learned guitar on that thing. It was also black with a cream pickguard. It's not a special guitar by any means, and I don't own it anymore, but it's cool to think I got some sort of connection to Jimi Hendrix, having started out in a similar type of guitar. Great stuff!
Wow, a great guitar in your hands - a real original! On my original Hendrix Guitar, I left the strings upside down, because I wanted to keep his wibe.... I removed the tape on the case, though.
I need to comment so the algorithm will push this video out to as many people as possible, but I don’t know what to write. I’m starstruck and …just wow. I’m not even jealous, just honestly happy you got to make this video, and that I get to watch it! ❤
Unreal!!! Congratulations. To so many of us Hendrix is the pinnacle...the reason to play/learn and constant inspiration. There is music before Jimi and music post Jimi...no matter the genre he influenced it. Youve got to play the gear of a genuine guitar diety!!!!. Thanks for sharing, well deserved
I remember one of the first videos I saw of you was where you were on the street and had people spinning a wheel to select which Hendrix tune you'd play. Congrats on your journey!
I just finished a biography about Hendrix, so this was a special video. I was like Joe back in the day. I was a sophomore in high school mourning the loss of Jimi. I was crushed, despondent. He was my favorite then and still is.
Ummm.. no. Did you not listen to, or read the description. It was refinished (twice) then played for years by Bloomfield. He even states that it used to be a 12 string.
What a wonderful privilege to be able to play a tool from the man who wrote the book on electric guitar. This is like sculping with one of michalangelo's chisels. Or painting with Rembrandts brush. Unbelievable
If you ever find yourself at guitar center in San Mateo, CA, ask them if they know what happened to a 1961 cream white vintage Les Paul SG. 3 gold humbuckers, vintage tuners, arrowhead markers on the 4 knob tone/volume. It's the Hendrix SG! if anyone deserves it imo - it's you!! My brother sold it to them a long time ago but it's a 7 digit SG... Worth the relic hunt if you like that sort of thing!
Watching the start of the video. I thought. That looks like emerald city guitars! Lol. I live 4 blocks up Washington street. Hope Jay and Trevor were good to ya!
Maybe the only one- but I believe a big reason JH played upside down was because the guitar just looks super badass that way - more looks than because of knob placement. Hendrix's stage outfits were often meticulous- not just hippie stuff thrown together. He put a lot of thought into his stage presence. Great sound, nailed the Hendrix sound.
I remember reading an article in the late 70's-early 80's in GP magazine that one of the main ways (at that time) to tell if it was a Hendrix guitar, was that they had 6 neck screws instead of 4, he did this to help keep it in tune from all the heat from the lighting, and the abuse he would put it through on stage. There are hundreds of them out there, he would go to a local Fender dealer while on tour, and buy 10 guitars, and give them away to the local stage crews, opening bands, etc. Only 1 or 2 would actually get used, but they would still drill 2 holes in the neck plate and reinforce it. Apparently someone had gotten one at a pawn shop, ran the serial #, and it turned out to be listed on a PO of several others, plus some other items purchased by Hendrix.
I call nonsense considering we have photos and the actual Woodstock guitar with no such modifications. If his most used guitars (white and black strat) dont have this then why waste time on throw away guitars? Not too mention the reasoning behind this makes no sense. SRV didn’t even do this to his #1 and he played that thing to literal death for longer with more tension
Your playing is amazing as usual. But I have to say, you took that iconic, vintage, fender strat and, in making it your own, it ended up sounding like a generic prs 😂
What an experience that must've been. Non-guitar players won't ever understand how impactful just touching the instrument truly is - I likely would've legitimately cried. What a great memory to hold onto.
Funny that it is because he thought they are better in photos ! I mostly play colored guitars because I wear black and you can't even tell the shape of the guitar on show pictures because it's black on black haha I never really got the "stratocaster" bug though, maybe it will come with age.
I really want to know what the deal with those things in line with the strings on the headstock are. Seems weird. Can't see them being something to do with a string tree, especially as it has a regular string tree.
There must have gone some "wow" through your body picking that guitar up. I got goosebumps by listening to Machine Gun, let alone holding a Hendrix geetar 😅
No, I haven't washed my hands yet.
Don't do it please
put a plastic bag over it, don't let anything touch it.
Ever?
Now that you played Hendrix’s Strat…. How much are your hands worth?!?!😆😆
Yeah you shouldnt wash them... ever again
Next video : I played g-sus chords on jesus's guitar
Next time: I struck A minor on a minotaur's harp
Next video: i peed on the same guitar that EVH peed on…
@@notsobigcheese Next: I played Playing God on God's harmonica.
You're such a massive Jimi Hendrix fan and dedicated musician.
I'm happy for you.
That’s the stratiest Strat I’ve ever heard Strat.
6:41 - ''Why did you all look nervous behind the camera? What did I do?'' - Tyler
At this point he has played more guitars then any other guitarist
and he only played for 12 years lol

Clapton
Hetfield
Van Halen
Hendrix
All done. It won't get better than this. Congrats Tyler!!
Slash?
Better is playing the guitarists that Hendrix looked up to..or Clapton...a musicians musician....Beck..there was none better
Knopfler needs on there too and he's a nice enough guy I bet he'd be happy to if asked.
What about any of the guitarists from Lynyrd Skynyrd
John lennon
Even if that wasn't Jimi's guitar, the fact is that's an incredible sounding Strat.
You're a lucky man Tyler. Whatever you do next, we're here for it. Some more interviews would be awesome.
Bring back Guitar Villains!
Such a great video that tells a great story. I got to visit ECG last month, everyone is so friendly and kind. An absolute incredible guitar shop!

paul davids also had just a video like this, but the guitar appeared to be not from hendrix actually lol
Yep haha
I was gonna say, when I saw the title I was like "Oh no, not again" lol
It’s not Hendrix’s guitar.
it sure sounds killer
I didnt know what to expect at the end with the improv'd song but dang you killed it! That reverse solo sounded so fitting too!
sounds so good.
Ok, while yes that it was a Hendrix guitar, the sub-headline is definately: BLOOMFIELD TOO!
Wow, a great guitar in your hands - a real original!

Stradivarius circa 1963 Fullerton California. You played it so well, coaxing out the JUJU ! ! !
Tuned in E-flat. Nice!!
I remember one of the first videos I saw of you was where you were on the street and had people spinning a wheel to select which Hendrix tune you'd play. Congrats on your journey!
Crazy...that 2nd fret g bend is the dang sound.
Jimi has given you the power now
The mountaintop at last, the utmost of congrats man
Bad ass jam at the end got my thumbs up. Awesome reversed licks!!
Holy shit!
Love the "Freak of Nature" beer T-shirt. I just came back from the beach and enjoyed more than a few of those while on vacation.
Looks like😄 another relic job
Love how worn it is on the arm cut. Just think your arm was resting on the same spot he had his arm on! So awesome!
Amigo ... your playing is amazing ! thx you for that.
i have seen pics of him playing a black strat.
What an AMAZING experience and you did that "tool" justice with your play! Lucky guy!
This is probably the coolest thing that will ever happen to you man holy crap!
Hey Tyler! Looks like that scar is healing well. Glad you got to play Jimi's guitar : )
Playing Satriani on a Hendrix Strat. Life is awesome sometimes.
I bought a G&l Strat from Emerald back in july. they are a great group of people.
When you said Bloomfield played the guitar, I started listening.
I just finished a biography about Hendrix, so this was a special video. I was like Joe back in the day. I was a sophomore in high school mourning the loss of Jimi. I was crushed, despondent. He was my favorite then and still is.
So many new guitars. When could we see a updated collection??
I just picked up a Silvertone strat...it plays as well as any REAL strat out there. I paid a whopping 125 dollars for it in a second hand store.
you made that guitar sing man
Shouldn't the arm wear be on the bottom as Jimi played it upside down .
Ummm.. no. Did you not listen to, or read the description. It was refinished (twice) then played for years by Bloomfield. He even states that it used to be a 12 string.
@@SZG65 Thanks for the correction ,have to admit I missed all that because I'm a lazy bastard . My apologies to all.
Awesome tribute 😊
Nice playin' Tribute!
What a wonderful privilege to be able to play a tool from the man who wrote the book on electric guitar. This is like sculping with one of michalangelo's chisels. Or painting with Rembrandts brush. Unbelievable
WOW! very cool guitar! great riffage!!
Rock on !!
at first the bro look excited as a puppy seeing his owner getting back at home

Awesome! All's that's left is Jeff Beck's white Strat...
Watching the start of the video. I thought. That looks like emerald city guitars! Lol. I live 4 blocks up Washington street. Hope Jay and Trevor were good to ya!
I don’t know this video reminds me of Paul Davis promoting a Jimi Hendrix guitar.
GOD bless you Tyler.
Very cool legend
You have played on john5's telecaster too ! (My legend)
Well played. I'm betting that most of your guitar Heroes haven't played a Hendrix guitar. Hah!
OMG YESSS!!!!! ❤
Realease that song as a single brother!

Funny, Carters vintage had that guitar. They mentioned Bloomfield but no Hendrix connection. Interesting how these dealers work.
So many videos coming out today that I instantly clicked on when I saw them, including this.
Wow!
Amazing
I’m in awe. Insane.
Wooooow... a strat... cool...
He used this guitar at the Atlanta Pop Festival.
No he did not lol. What are you talking about?
Exactly. That's why Tyler explained that it WASN'T played live...only the studio. We can tell you watched all of the vid.
Maybe it’s every guitar discourse community that experiences this but the blatant confidence people say nonsense about Hendrix and his gear is crazy
no lol that was the ‘68 maple neck black Strat holy grail (Uli Jon Roth has it as far as i know)
Prs woulda made money from me if you had an affordable model. How did they miss the mark on that?
So Cool
Man this better not be the false one that paul davids played a year or two ago
so now we need to get to know whats up with the screws in the headstock and the tonal abilities of such
🔥🔥🔥
The magical 4th position on the pickup selector… 60 cyl hum diminishes
So 🔥.
Dam , real bad ass
If this guitar was used by hendrix, shouldn't the forward strap button be on the other horn? Or he used only sitting down?
Jimi definitely would be up on the latest technology. We can only imagine what he could’ve done today.

LUCKY!!!
It would have been cool if you had Paul R. Smith's Hendrix's amp set up with you!
Your playing is amazing as usual. But I have to say, you took that iconic, vintage, fender strat and, in making it your own, it ended up sounding like a generic prs 😂
Well , need to do SRV , BB king , and an original Leo Fender
What an experience that must've been. Non-guitar players won't ever understand how impactful just touching the instrument truly is - I likely would've legitimately cried. What a great memory to hold onto.
Good for you man. That's FUCKING awesome , bucket list shit right there kid
I am pretty sure Hendrix is smiling and loving the show. You did him proud.
Honestly a little disappointed you didn't plug it into a Marshall! Still rad though! Right on dude! 🤘🎸🎶
Dont care except for the 65amp cab - that is perfect
Ledbelly next??
Funny that it is because he thought they are better in photos ! I mostly play colored guitars because I wear black and you can't even tell the shape of the guitar on show pictures because it's black on black haha
I never really got the "stratocaster" bug though, maybe it will come with age.
wow
Properly relic'd. I own a guitar once owned by the guitar player with David McAlmont's 'Thieves' band. I know. Who?
Beatles next
I really want to know what the deal with those things in line with the strings on the headstock are. Seems weird. Can't see them being something to do with a string tree, especially as it has a regular string tree.
What was with the screws on the headstock? I have to know. Have never seen that.
What a beautiful tone. Jealous!
There must have gone some "wow" through your body picking that guitar up.
I got goosebumps by listening to Machine Gun, let alone holding a Hendrix geetar 😅
Holy sh*t
how did you find that guitar?
What are the rosettes on the headstock under the strings?
