My favorite technique in defending is to fake diving so like the attacker thinks I'm going to dive in for the tackle, then I fake and he tries to dribble me but I tackle, works amazing for me
N K W this strategy works if player thinks you are tackling and he tries to get around
N K W same here. Also I've been on 2v1 situations tons of times. I fake tackle then go to the player open and usually they pass it to the other guy who was countering and makes me look like a boss

I play CDM, and what he's teaching is really accurate defending.
The added advantage that you get as a CDM is being able take a few more risks with committing more heavily to tackles and interceptions because you have the backline behind you still. Obviously that doesn't mean just throw yourself at the ball whenever you want, you still have to be smart about when you choose to but it does mean that the chance of picking up a straight red for being late on a 50/50 isn't as big as it is being the last line of defense so you can use that to your advantage.

Thank you for this great video! Trying out for High School and I did not make a team last year and during the training I have been on defense so this has definitely helped me with a position I was not entirely comfortable with!
defenders that like to defend are a dying breed, u can be very skilled in defending just like very skilled attackers u can be fast and have quick feet and thinking
stoolsie These days people just want to be attackers and midfielders (i used to be one of those people until i noticed no one in my team was a dedicated defender) plus one of the benefits of being a defender is if you're decent it will immediately give you a spot in the team
4 months ago, I made the decision to learn this sport. I'm beginning to develop as a pretty decent defender, and I'm loving it! Stopping the attack is every bit as rewarding as a goal, IMO.
So true defending comes to me easier than attacking, I'm pretty good when I play football at school but now that we're starting soccer unit, I need help because I don't know how to steal the ball when I'm defending
Jacky li As a guy who’s played as a defender for 4 Year’s I can tell you one thing. You will rarely ever steal the ball directly away from the opponent unless two things happen 1) you’re stronger than him and easily bully him off the ball or 2) he takes a terrible touch and you get the ball back. Otherwise NEVER and I mean NEVER commit unless you know 100 % you will get the ball. Always stay close to your opponent, don’t give him room to breathe get physical but not enough that you will get carded. Stay on your feet and stay focused at all times and try to only look at where the ball is going when you’re defending so you minimize the chances of him faking you out. And one last thing, when you do manage to pry the ball away from his feet, unless he’s the laziest player on the team expect a rough challenge or an intense amount of pressure so be prepared for that as well.
