SimplySoccer Hi there I've just watched this video an I really think that this is really helpful. Im a defender at heart I never want to score goals cause firstly I'm not attackingly good and secondly I find it boring to just score goals. However there are major setbacks lately when some of my friends starts to ask me where I'd prefer playing and when I say I'm a CB many would not believe me because I'm 5 ft 1 inch. It's sad cuase being a CB has always been a dream and I had played a few times in CB. Did some recovery tackles after a corner where every single one wasn't up to recover. Tbh my body shape is somewhat like luke shaw. Big and short. But don't get me wrong when I come and make a tackle it's always a brutally clean tackle to a point where people make referee the problem to the game. Still I really need your help In assessing a problem I have. How to time ourselves to a tackle. I'm bad at stand tackling and i always do slide tackles. So I've been watching Diego Godin cause his stand tackles are solid and hard. Way better defender than Ramos, and also I've been analysing this young defender named Milan Skriniar. He's compose as a defender. I really love his standing tackles. Maybe you could make another video if does not hinder you in any way to help people like me to know when to time a tackle and how to stand tackle in a certain situation? Or maybe have pictures of attackers and deduce whether isnit the time to slide or to stand there we could get the rough idea to when's the right time to tackle. Btw this video's a very good one. Thank you and have a very good day.
Some tips for defending Never stay flat footed Know your surroundings Communicate with teammates When the opponent makes a bad/big touch , that's when you make the tackle, unless your 100% sure that you can make the tackle Be aggressive
Julian + he no mercy. for me as a striker (and wing player) its very hard to get past a defender who is cold blooded and does have no mercy. Go for the ball and not the player. Kick the fucking ball away if u have the chance. Don't let the attacking player do his strength. Amen
A good rule of thumb for going after the ball is if you can arrive before the ball or at the same time you can try for the ball. If you arrive after the ball don't "dive in" or try to get the ball from the offensive player. Jockey and apply pressure. As a defender your job is not to win the ball, but to prevent the other team from scoring. Stopping the forward momentum of the offense and forcing a backward pass that allows for your teammates to recover into defensive position is also considered a win. I also like to attack the ball when it is still in the air and the offensive player has not settled it yet. I see a lot of kids allowing the offense to settle a bouncing ball then turn and face them. It is much harder to beat a defender with your back turned to them. Don't let them turn! If a player is running straight at you in your defensive third of the field and they are going to run by you... Don't let them cut into the middle of the field where they can get a shot off. Force them to the outside to take a lower angle shot... your goal keeper will greatly appreciate it! Consider a purposeful foul. Don't hurt anyone, pull a jersey or obstruct the player. Never ruin another players career by injuring them! Never under estimate the power of applying extreme pressure. Even pros make bad passes when they don't have time to pick their head up to find a pass. The easiest way to frustrate a more skilled team is just applying extreme pressure. Get in their grill immediately! Once again this does not mean diving in. You should have a fast approach but a slow arrival.
damn thats some good advice... ive got to play CB next season n im not looking forward to it cos im shit at headers, but also it depends how high your pressing
Lendoggydog If they're tall they'll have less balance so get low and push them with your body. (I'm 5'11" /180cm 177 lbs / 78 kg and managed to stop counter attacks against tall midfielders. They'll be further from the ball (tall= longest strides= less contact with the ball to dribble the same distance than the average player= less ball control) so when the touch the ball calculate when they will touch it again. When they make contact with the ball, and it goes more than 1 foot away from them, tackle as fast as you can. This way they hopefully won't be able to react quickly enough because they have to "react" to YOUR mouve in order to stay in possession of the ball.
Lendoggydog if someone crosses the ball to them they'll probably take the header but you can still try to get a better placement and plant your feet correctly in order to jump the higher you can. Remember! You should have a better balance and footwork so try to get a better position than them. Don't try to think of these tips in the match because you will get confused. Just train and everything is gonna be fine. Training quality+ training quantity + experience= success
The two most important things to do as a center back when defending a really fast guy is don’t let him turn and tackle really hard because they will get scared of you. Be physical
can you make a simple comparison in any website and show me the result ?!! that general talking isn't correct at all .. yes Ramos do a lot of fouls and get cards but in defensive actions he's the best !
As a defender I would like to give a tip. You have to stay strong. Because in the league I’m playing in they put u16/17 in their teams while it’s u15. And those can be strong so you need to use your strength and aggressive to push them or cover the ball. Another tip is to use your shoulder/hand to push them at throw-in or corners I always do that and it helps a lot.
Sou obrigado a falar isso aqui ta uma porra Yeah Sergio is the goat over the last 9 years or so but last season it was VVD but that doesn’t mean that Ramos is better overall 🤷♂️
Amud Al Jafar do not give them any space. Wait until he goes a certain way and kite him for as long as possible. Only go in for the tackle when it’s inevitable or easy. Use your body to guide him away from your goal, but don’t get too physical as a smart attacker with good dribbling will simply take the ball around you.
+Amud Al Jafar it is the same as this video. Skills take space to perform, if you eliminate the space, they cannot do skills. Use your body, be aggressive
Thanks this really helped I play RW and LW and I don't like playing and defensive positions unless a attack minded full back. There are some Strikers on my team who are really fast. One time we did a scrimmage and I thought of this when I was put at CB. We only conceded 2 goals and scored 8 on a half field scrimmage. I know I'm late but thanks. 👌
One more tip: If the player faces up to you one on one not especially trying to use pace, mainly trickery, look only at the ball and wait and wait and wait. Usually he will eventually perform a heavy touch. This is when you step in and take the ball. Diving in early is exactly what they want and they can just tap it past you and burst into the space you left behind, Great tips, brilliant vid, should help me on my defense, thx a lot
SimplySoccer not really for defending against pacy players but just skillul and good dribbling but players who are fast often are good dribblers so thought it might help! Great vid though really improved my game

It's nice to show experienced world class players since they are the epitome of the sport itself. However, can we get lesser famous players with brilliant tactical and athletic ability who may not play for the Reals and Chelseas but would be excellent players to learn from? Analysing the top 0.001% is wholly useless for teams lower than the first division in any league on the planet.
The best way to learn is to study the best and focus on the small things that they do. Guys like John Terry, Gary Neville, Phillip Lahm, Loic Perrin is actually a very good example of a great defender that is undersized at CB, Javier Mascherano is another good example of the same thing, Mario Gaspar is another,Fabio Cannavaro, I think the best example I can give though as a guy that is a fantastic 1-on-1 defender and a good all round footballer is Cesar Azpilicueta. Never two players can atack the ball the same time...if one is with a atacker another one need focus in his next moviments and atack the ball with intelligency....defends just need learn moviments...and of course left feet or right feet push the players to weakness sides....or normally they push the ball for their normal best feet...the balls in the air the hardest you do need constantly follow middle/gaps and not every time players...and be agressive is important... to not give the best confidence to the atacker...when have the ball try push the ball always to the lines not middle...you lose the ball in middle have a lot of place direct to the goal and lines need do different ways...

GM intertamendTV its hard to defend against an attacker who dives..
You forgot patience
Julian what do you mean never stay flat footed? is it staying on your toes
Dough Boy it means that you should never stand in one place doing nothing you should always be ready
I'm so happy channels usually just pay attention to attackers but the defense is the platform of the team
hater
Hamza Abuarqoub why..?
true
The defender is the most important position of the game because they’re like a wall to protect your goal

Great advice and I’m an attacking mid so this helped me learn from the defenders position
Well said.
Wow great advice
Tactically:
- Don't try to win ball high up, run straight back
- Defend deep
- Don't slide tackle
- Press from mid, force him wide
damn thats some good advice... ive got to play CB next season n im not looking forward to it cos im shit at headers, but also it depends how high your pressing
daquan94 Yes it does. I'm confident you will improve your defensive skills. I wish you best of luck with your season :)
Alos GOL
i love slide tackling
What do you mean by defend deep?
Do defending against tall/strong attackers pls
Myles Goulbourne You CAN'T beat Zlatan ! 😂
Nicolas Lacroix I need to know how to do it for the big donkeys that are about 7 foot in Sunday league

No one ever likes to play defence, so it is always up to me to stay back. I like defending though
Same here
Same bro
As someone that love to play defence (and good at it) you don't know how annoying to play against peoples like that😂
I wanna attack, but I am naturally better at defending so that's what I play and I quite enjoy it actually
Me too
Finally You did a video for defenders 😂❤️
Im watching this to avoid being exposed by defenders as a fast attacker
Kyran Crawford-O'Gorman Same
Lol I'm a defender and I do the same on attacking videos.
Lol same here 🤣🤷🏽♂️
Nah I’m a defender.
@@YashRaj-wz3su and Indian who is fast soccer player

almost all modern clips in this video is showing Ramos .. then a 10 years kid come and say he's overrated ! :D
he is lol,you dumb*?His defensive abbility is way ,way worse than some of the top defenders in the world
yeah you're right all this clips is photoshopped xD
