I am a licensed plumber working in Vancouver. I wanna say you video is excellent, very well done, very good explanations. It should be used as a teaching tool for plumbing apprentices. Great job - keep shooting!
FINALLY! Of all the videos I watched, none of them were for the type of toilet that I had. Most have an easy twist off of the top portion of the intake valve, but mine has the same as this, where you have to push down and turn with pliers. After following these directions, I have my toilet flushing back to how it used to and filling back up in 20 seconds, instead of minutes. Thanks so much for this, really appreciate it!
Your comment gives me hope, I have been also looking for the right video and have tried numerous different things and nothing yet has worked. I have 2 toilets lile this, 1 fills up in less than 10 seconds and the 1 nor working correctly takes like 3:30 minutes!! (I know insane! & I get excited when my "use to be plumber b/f says, "I fixed the toilet!"... then I go in there with high hopes, FLUSH, then listen.... 1mim... 2... 3 min. . . Ahhhhhh not again NOT FIXED!! 🤔🙄) SO my fingers 🤞, I'm going to try this method shortly and I pray 🙏 it works for me top!! 🙌😃🤞
I literally cannot tell you how amazing this video was to me. We have the EXACT same full inlet here in the UK. I took mine apart and the diaphragm was full of gunk (limescale); cleaned it all up in the sink of warm soapy water, reassembled and boom. She works like a charm 😇 this has been bugging me for years!! Sending good vibes and love to you my good man, thank you 🙏
I was searching for two days and finally i found yours explaining the way of cleaning the diaphragm of the fill valve without the need of removing the whole set..much appreciated and thanks indeed
Thanks for the video! I was able to fix a water fill valve this morning that wouldn't shut off with the cleaning you show in your video. It's the gift that keeps on giving. It made my Father's day much more enjoyable.
Man! You are a God send. I tried watching so many videos and none could help me. My fill valve is only reachable to change behind the toilet which meant taking the toilet out. You saved me a great deal of money, I wish I could buy you a drink. Thanks mate
While your video skills are lacking you showed me what needed to be done. After taking it apart I couldn't detect any problems but after I put it back together the shut off valve worked perfectly.
Worked perfectly for our Western-brand toilet; the fill valve tower is exactly the same. My problem however was the small drain valve at the bottom of the float bowl; without this video I wouldn’t have been able to disassemble the fill valve tower to access the float bowl. Thank you very much, great job!!
Thank you for the video. I dredged up some sediment when replacing a well pressure tank and it clogged up the water inlet for my Glacier Bay toilet. I knew there was some type of filter, but had never needed to clean it before. My toilet is only a single flush model, but the video walked me through what I needed to do to clean the inlet.
This worked perfectly. The only difference is mine had a little red clip that needed to be removed first. It came right out, no tools required. Thank you again for making this video!
I had same issue and your video helped me to solve my problem. There were some debris in the rubber seal. After I cleaned it the problem got resolved. Thank you so much
Joe - Thank you my man. Just fitted my first concealed cistern, attached pan, waste etc and no leaks! Trouble was the cistern continued to fill despite adjusting float. I shut the water off and disassembled the unit as per your instructions, gave the (brand new) diaphragm components a clean and all is now working well. Many thanks from the UK.
Additional - fill valve still slightly leaking. In 10 hours reaches overflow, so probably something that can be tolerated. The system appears to work by having a very slow leak path into the diaphragm causing it to bend when under pressure from the mains water. When the float pops up a small rubber pad at the other end of the arm touches down onto a tiny aperture. This seals the unit pressuring the diaphragm and shutting off the water - very neat. Short story, clean the rubber pad and the tiny aperture in addition to this video.
Awesome video. This is same as delta valves. Explained it all perfectly. I didn’t really find any debris in it, but just a wipe down of the film on it stoped the leaking! Thanks!
Good detailed directions, a couple more steps may be needed: @ 02:10 use a q-tip to clean out the center hole of the fill tube, I removed a bunch of gunk from that hole, and at 02:52 pull out the float connected to the float arm and clean the float and the inside of the float bowl, mine was full of crud causing it to stick.
Thank You Sssooooooo MUCH!!! I DID THIS step by step and it WORKED. It saved me so much time and money tring to have a professional come in. Literally only took me about 7 mins. Iy would've been less time (I kept rewinding the video). I AM SOOO HAPPY RIGHT NOW!! You have no idea. Bless you!
Great video! You described what you were doing perfectly! I have an R & T valve, which isn't exactly the same as this one, but you're directions still worked!
Bro.... awesome review... mine was running for like 10 minutes to fill.... but I cleaned mine out like you said... worked amazing... BUT... it kept running afterwards... then my girl says... just put the lid on... and wouldn't you know it... the toilet lid has to be on for some stupid ass reason.. but hey... it works now... thanks again
Thanks so much for your detailed description; I could have saved a lot of time, if I went to UA-cam first, before trying to locate the manufacture's support, that told me to pull the diaphragm housing straight up and out, instead of rotating it.
Overall excellent video, thank you. Side note, my cap didn’t have to be lined up with the hose to come off after pushing down and turning. Tried for way longer than I should’ve to follow that step when the whole thing turned and then came off when I lift up in case anyone else is like me.
First I twisted the valve head back and forth and saw a rush of black gunk come up. Then I ended up breaking the valve head trying to get off. I went ahead and replaced the whole valve as it was fairly old. Once I removed the old valve I was immediately able to see what was wrong. The rubber gasket was breaking up in tiny pieces and clogging up the valve. In my experience over the years it's so much easier to just replace the valve then spend tons of time trying to diagnose.
Thank you thank you thank you, we have this same system and the valve was full of gunk, had no idea how to sort it out until I found this clip. You have saved me a ton on calling a plumber!! Thank you!!!
Thank you so much , Single Mom getting tools on hand saving lots of money !!! So helpful I did what you did but replace the black rubber and Magic happens !!! 🥰🐾
OMG, this really helped me. I was able to pull the pin out using my fingers. I used the pliers to open it and it was very easy. I rinse the diaphragm because it had some black stuff in it. It completely fixed the problem of the water coming out of the top.
I just fixed mine by using this same method, mine doesn't have the pin to pull out, just push-down and turn counter clockwise and clean ed it. My has some sort of white sand or mineral built up which blocked the valve to closed all the way. Thanks for a great video.
The reason I made this video is that I was away from home for 1 year working in Las Vegas and my wife was at home in Hawaii when toilet decided to act up. Yup city water crew decided to work on main water line and introduced sediment which found its way into my toilet diaphragm. This cause it to slowly keep filling even after float shut flow off as sediment was not letting diaphragm to seat properly and shut off flow of water. I bought new toilet and made video and posted so my wife could follow steps to fix it. As previous comments stated you should clean and inspect diaphragm to insure all is good and also clean part where diaphragm seats to make sure nothing is causing a bad seal.
@@queensexynenaxox4597 Dont understand you question. Are you talking about the top of the lid where buttons to flush are? If so they are not meant to come off. The whole assembly is held together from underneath of toilet tank lid via big plastic nut. There are 2 plastic tabs that hold each button to chrome ring from under side of tank lid. These tabs are long and if broken render flush button useless.
Hi thank you for the guide... I've checked and cleaned the diaphragm part(s), but toilet still filling very slowly. The hole you can see at 2:08 is full of water though, is that the problem? Please can anyone help?
hole is supposed to be full of water as this is the supply for the toilet fill. As it fills diaphragm is pushed down to shut off water flow. I suggest putting a plastic cup over it with diaphragm removed and have someone turn on toilet water supply while you hold cup over it *hold cup to prevent water from shooting up and soaking you and everything is sight :) *. Water should flow fairly fast and you have just confirmed input flow is good. If little or no flow than you have a bad water inlet valve or blockage at valve or hose from valve to toilet. To check hose turn of water inlet valve and hold toilet flush lever to empty toilet water tank. Use a wet/dry vacuum to suck out remaining water in tank or if you don't have one than do it the old fashion hard way with a small towel to suck up water repeatedly ringing it out in sink or tub till ALL water is gone. Once ALL water is gone unscrew inlet hose from under side of toilet water tank and inlet valve. Blow thru hose and hold up to light to see if there is a blockage or take to water hose outside of house and run water thru it and see if there is good flow. If good flow screw it back onto inlet valve and get a bucket. Hold end of hose into bucket and have someone turn on inlet valve and flow should be slow as valve has blockage. To fix valve you would need to shut off whole house master water valve (usually at front curb of home which feed whole house). Once water is shut open toilet inlet valve with inlet hose still connected to it and drain water into bucket. Once line stops draining water inlet valve can be removed and blockage cleared or if valve is broken replace it. Once blockage is removed or valve replaced close toilet inlet valve and turn back on master water valve. It is normal to have air come from all faucets, toilets, showers, etc as you have shut main valve and drained line which introduced air into line. This air will be purged as you use water to each device. Once again turn on toilet inlet valve which holding inlet hose in bucket to confirm good inlet flow. Now that flow is confirmed good reattach hose to toilet tank and reassemble toilet diaphragm. You should be good to go.
it should disengage by applying downward force and turn counter clockwise. Pushing down enables it to unlock they tabs that hold it and turning it counter clockwise (to the left) will make it so tab is able to clear and be able to lift to access diaphragm. It will work but some force must be applied and fill shaft must be held so it doesn't rotate. Maybe get someone to hold shaft so you apply needed pressure or you hold and other person disengage cam lock to access diaphragm
@@joejones9546 Thank you for your reply! I followed your instructions and tried to push down and turn while holding down the fill shaft, but it doesn't budge at all.. is there a possibility something might be stuck? i tried to take a photo of how mine looks here: i.imgur.com/i0R3t1Y.jpg
@@followyouaround something stuck as you can see from your pic there are 4 big white plastic tabs holding down the 4 big white tabs below them and there are 2 small tabs to the right of 2 of the big tabs below. These 2 small tabs on lower level is the stopping position when you reinsert top portion of fill and line up all 4 big tabs on top of each other to keep even pressure on the diaphragm . This is the reason why top MUST be turned counter clockwise as small tabs prevent it turning clockwise. Only thing you can do is try to get flat tip screwdriver and with hammer lightly tap on flat surface of top fill trying to remove to break it loose. Tap with medium pressure as you dont want to wack it very hard and break the plastic. After tapping each flat spot where big tabs are I would use a big size channel locks to get a good grip on it and have someone hold fill shaft so you can apply a lot of downward pressure and turn it counterclockwise. At this point your toilet fill either must give or break which is the only options. If it breaks than it was shot and needs to be replaced. Can replace whole fill with generic Fluidmaster 400A instead from Home Depot. Replacement is around $7.00 and will last for many years problem free.
Way to go in be in depth for those that maybe doing their first or are new to tools! Much respect for the info I had no clue about that diaphragm which I'm betting is my issue!!! Liked and subscribed! (Only positive fueled critique wld be less camera movement, cam stand/holder, or a second person/camera man, (but I'm sure you've heard it😏 already lol I get motion sickness so easy it's stupidly rediculous) but really liked how in depth n informative you are with the repair!!!! 👏🏻Nice job!!👍🏻
These were good instruction and exactly like my tank - but didn't resolve my issue of the water not filling back up after a flush. I even took off the float and cleaned that all around. Any suggestions for that?
This is very helpful. It explains how to release the fill valve plastic very well but I'm still hesitant to push so hard down on the stopper. It feels like it will break. I'll try again but thanks for at least giving me the confidence to try to fix my leaky fill valve seal on my Glacier Bay dual flush toilet.
I didn't. It was very difficult to turn at first but once you put enough pressure on it, it turns. After doing it the first time and understanding how much force to use, it was much easier doing it a second time (I purchased an incorrect replacement valve the 1st time).
B T I have a toilet just like this one and it's not filling up with water that well.... would this fix it or should I buy a new part? What was wrong with yours?
I just got a duel flush toilet is there any water drip that should be happening near the top of the fill valve when you flush it's running thru the rubber hose but if there is water dripping before hose is that a reason the bowl doesn't fill enough. Thanks . Hope you can answer this 😬
Thanks much, this helped me. Mine didn't have debris, but I flushed it out and it no longer occasionally leaks. I also removed the main flapper and hosed and wiped it down. Also I removed it from the toilet, because I felt it would be easier to work on the outside.
Excellent video. But next video get someone to hold the camera. In any case, followed your instructions and totally eliminated the slow filling and prolonged water shutoff problems. Thanks a bunch, Mr. Jones.
Found most of debris specially hard water deposits at the bottom area of the valve mostly at the filter with the o-ring as the water goes in. Maybe removal of the entire filler valve from the bottom is easier?
I have no water flowing out of the tube when the valve opens to fill the tank after flushing, it's all leaking out from under the top blue cap. I'm going to disassemble it as shown, and hopefully figure out what is blocking the water to flow out of the flexible tube. Thanks very much.
I was so hoping I could use this video to get mine to work again. Followed to a T. Still takes 10 minutes to refill. May have to get replacement parts. Sux.
Well this 8yo video helped me get the valve apart. Cleaned it and it let's a little more water through. My problem is it doesn't fill up after a flush BUT if I turn the water off and then on again it fills right back up again in a matter of seconds. Releasing the water pressure makes it work for some reason. Thoughts?
Can this be dismantled completely to clean the insides of the Tube with some cleaning agent? The quality of water supply in our city is very bad and the valves gets chocked with calcification & iron...???
if you shut off water to toilet, drain holding tank completely (use wet vacuum or rags to soak up remaining water as flushing will still leave small amount of water in bottom of tank), undo water fill hose from under side of fill tank (make sure water supply is shut off or BIG mess of gushing water will follow) and put end of fill hose in a small pot or bucket as it will drain water from line onto floor, unscrew plastic nut from bottom of fill tank (part where fill hose screwed onto), pull up on fill valve from inside of fill tank to remove whole fill assembly, all rubber gaskets and internal diaphragm must be removed so only plastic body remains (follow video to remove diaphragm - it just is secured via hole in center to small stem so just pull up evenly and gently on it and it will pop off). You can now soak all plastic body and parts in vinegar, CLR, etc to remove calcium build up. Main flusher can also be done by just turning it counter clockwise (white will be on the left and aqua on the right - turn till it reaches 7 o'clock position *short of a 1/4 turn* and pull up slightly as it almost reaches 7 o.clock position. Assembly will come off and remove large o-ring gasket on bottom of assembly. This o-ring keeps water in tank and if you have a slow leak and not coming from diaphragm fill it will be this gasket. Pull gasket out *looks like a thin flat doughnut* and inspect as if leaking will have bubbles on o-ring which is it de laminating and causing water bypass (Home Depot sells a generic dual flush gasket for about $3.00). Once gasket removed soak same as above and you should be good to go. I would just replace flush gasket if you are going thru all the hassle of cleaning out both units and rebuilding it as its only $3.00 and will ensure leak free for years.
@@joejones9546 Thank you friend...I have already done it with help from other videos. Your reply will help other possible users at large. Thank you. I have never received such a detailed reply in past. Thank you once again...👍👍
I have the same toilet. The water is not flowing through the tube. Also, I need to replace the seal because mine is worn. Do you know what part I need? The fluidmaster part #242 does not fit. I can't get the thing to turn after putting that seal on.
Hello. My rental unit has one of these but the tank is much deeper than the fill valve so the cistern is not filling enough to properly flush. Does Glacier Bay make replacement kits with a taller overflow valve? Can I use an overflow tube extension? Any ideas? Thanks!
The only information that I get is for the duel flush toilet. I bought a glacier bay one with a higher seat because my mom is 92 and needed the higher seat. It had been running all of the time but didn't know it until my water bill came. I had thought I had fixed it but now the water won't work to fill it. I also found a small plastic part that I have no idea where it'd from. So I basically made the problem worse. Any ideas?
Would this help with the fill valve getting stuck? I'm having issues where once in a while it won't fill and I'll have to just tap on the "plus sign" and it pops back into place and fills no problem after that.
Hi, In my case this didn't solve the problem of making the tank fill faster. Instead I paid $7 for the "400A Universal Toilet Fill Valve" at the hardware store and that worked wonderfully. Now my tank fills in about 15 seconds. and took 10 minutes to replace.
built in dude water savers are here to stay as population is only increasing and federal mandates have caused these type of water saving devices. Yup back in the days toilets flushed almost 2 x's the amount of water down the drain. Good for flushing mondo turds but man if it didn't flush you had a massive flush of crap water on your floor to clean up. See sometime water saver are a good thing. Most times now days plugged water just rises to tip of bowl and let it still for a hour and then use plunger. Not nice sight or smell but beat the crap out of mopping up crap and water off of the floor.

You should be good to go.
joe jones Thank you so much for your response. I will give those instructions a try. Keep on being awesome :-)
Thank you sir. Solved the mystery of the running toilet!
Great work showing us how to do it step by step. Save me a trip to Home Depot!
Thanks helped fix mine. I had to tap on the top cap piece with screwdriver and hammer lightly to get the thing to break loose
hi there! this is very helpful but i am stuck at 1:42, no matter how much pressure i apply i can't 'push down' and turn counter clockwise..
it should disengage by applying downward force and turn counter clockwise.
Thanks this was helpful, my intake was not working now fixed.
Thanks for this tutorial. You helped me clean out all the gunk.
This is very helpful. It explains how to release the fill valve plastic very well but I'm still hesitant to push so hard down on the stopper. It feels like it will break. I'll try again but thanks for at least giving me the confidence to try to fix my leaky fill valve seal on my Glacier Bay dual flush toilet.
did u braek anything trying to turn and pull tha piece off
I finally fixed my toilet! You saved me a bunch of money bud. 😀
I just got a duel flush toilet is there any water drip that should be happening near the top of the fill valve when you flush it's running thru the rubber hose but if there is water dripping before hose is that a reason the bowl doesn't fill enough. Thanks . Hope you can answer this 😬
Fixed it, mine was a little different explanation got me there thanks
Hola, no entendí nada de lo que hablaste, pero tu vídeo me sirvió mucho, te envío un saludo desde Valdivia, Chile, y muchas gracias.
Jones.
Awesome video. Very helpful. I tried it, Still inlet is slowly overflowing despite the arm locked water stopped to the flexible pipe
This worked perfectly, was exactly what I needed, thank you!
Dude!! THIS is exactly the fix we were looking for - thanks so much!! p.s. maybe a camera stand next time? :D :D :D
Found most of debris specially hard water deposits at the bottom area of the valve mostly at the filter with the o-ring as the water goes in. Maybe removal of the entire filler valve from the bottom is easier?
What if you can't push and turn? I snapped off one of the sides when trying to push and turn. Probably too much buildup...
I have no water flowing out of the tube when the valve opens to fill the tank after flushing, it's all leaking out from under the top blue cap. I'm going to disassemble it as shown, and hopefully figure out what is blocking the water to flow out of the flexible tube. Thanks very much.
Wow thank you so much, seems like debris was the main cause and this was a quick fix.
What brand is this valve please. I have the exact same one and need to find a new seal. Local hardware doesn't carry this one
Cheers thanks for the brilliant video i can sort this tomorrow. From ireland
Thoughts?
thanks so much. really help me fix the problems after consulting several people. God bless good deeds people like you.
You my friend is a life saver .

Thank you friend...I have already done it with help from other videos.
Thanks so much! Your video was very helpful.
You’re a wonderful teacher!! Thank you! :-)
Smart. Person. want. To learn more .
Please? .
Hello. My rental unit has one of these but the tank is much deeper than the fill valve so the cistern is not filling enough to properly flush. Does Glacier Bay make replacement kits with a taller overflow valve? Can I use an overflow tube extension? Any ideas? Thanks!
Hi guys the water still fills although i have cleaned diafram
Thank you , I have just been able to stop ours from overfilling by following this 😀
Wow, that is a tiny little hole for the water! No wonder gets clogged. Thanks for the advice 😊
Thamk u very much...u saved alot of money... ❤️
Excellent instructions Mr.
Thank you very much !!
Worked for my issue of constantly filling, thank you.
My top of the valve dont come off. To see if there is any debris
Hello sir, can you show us how to remove the water pressure decreaser mechanism on that fill valve ?
built in dude water savers are here to stay as population is only increasing and federal mandates have caused these type of water saving devices.
Thank's. Your video fixed my issue.
Thanks a million bro. Fixed my issue!!
