3 of my favourite intro’s, Type O, The Manics and Joy Division! I also think of Disorder or Shadowplay by Joy Division, and although it’s not an intro 4st 7lb by Manic Street Preachers is quite a “dark” bass line. Keep up the good work!
Thinking of a lot of basslines that define the song so much that I think of them as standalone intros but upon listening actually aren't, like "Nick the Stripper", or "Dirt" by the Stooges. Great selection as always.
Megadeth, SOUNDGARDEN, Alice in Chains, Melvins , Type O negative, Janes addiction, the cure, rage against the machine and tool Sober 🤘🤘🔥🔥and OZZY OSBOURNE Believer 🤘🤘is why subscribed HELL YEAH !!
Respect to the man Bloxsy for adding Manic Street Preachers. Also I woke up with "Would?" by AIC stuck in my head and there is was. Lots of other super cool choices too" Joy Division, Melvins, RATM and more!
My personal favourite dark bass intro is from 'Dust to Dust' by The Warning. I feel like it already sets the tone for the entire album that follows afterwards (which has quite the dark theme) so it is very fitting imo.
Respect for faturing Manic Street Preachers, JDB is great frontman, he sings in the band and taking role as lead guitarist as well, while Sean Moore keeping the best drumbeat, and also Nicky Wire as a lyricist and bass player, but dont forget Richey Edwards as the main lyricist during 91-94, even though he did only lack of musical input (he frequently mimed during early live performances)
good mix. When I saw the title, I correctly predicted there would be some Joy Division and Bauhaus and The Cure in there. I didn't guess that there would be that much hard rock/metal, but it was good stuff. I am surprised that "Lucretia my reflection" by sisters of Mercy didn't make the cut.
Great video man, i always love the dark tone!. Other bass song that may have a dark tone is "Coma" from Guns N' Roses, great dark intro!. Cheers from Argentina
I’d love a video of surprising bass lines. Paradise by Sade for example. One of my favourite ever bass lines. Or Imagination (12 inch mix) by Belouis Some. Which also has some great melodic bass playing.
Glad to have seen SOAD in this video :-) also "One weak" by Deftones has a very dark sinister bassline that would've been a good one to have on the list in my opinion. You should make a part two of this!
It's such a relatively small band that I wouldn't expect a load of people to know about them but Fatima's track "Mongolo Bill" from a couple of years ago has an insanely simple but cool "dark" sounding bass intro.
I'm impressed with the range of styles and your playing is on point. I was hoping that Failure's Heliotropic would make this list, but damn it is a really fine selection of songs!
" I just wish I could live in a place where Autumn never ended". -Peter Steele (Jan 4, 1962 - April 14, 2010). Rest in peace, Green Man. The Type O family loves you always & forever.
Hell yeah Hollow Hills, such a satisfying but simple one to learn. It's interesting though how many of these aren't "Darkly" voices at all, by virtue of using a pick they tend to sound brighter both here and often on the original record.
Very nice content, I enjoyed this video so much! It gave me inspiration for songs to listen and for my own bass lines :--D . Good job, well done. (extra thanks for putting Joy Division in video
I've been having a lot of fun playing Type O Negative songs lately! I've just started learning how to play with a pick and their songs use a lot of picks (at least, according to the tabs on Songster), and a lot of their songs are tuned to BEAD, so I can finally use that fat floppy string on my 5-string bass! :P
Ha! Was just about to suggest "Dead Babies" but you beat me to it! Holy shit, "Night Goat", yes!! Okay, there's no way you're gonna do "Boris th...never mind
The intro to Hand of Doom by Black Sabbath is a good one. I know everybody goes crazy over NIB but Hand of Doom is my favorite.
Master Of Reality is just a great album
Jason Newsted's bass intro on Metallica's "My Friend Of Misery" is such a dark but pleasent sounding sound haha. Banging video, my man!
Thanks man. I nearly included that one but not sure why I didn’t.
I really liked Jason's part on ...And Justice For All. Really revolutionized the way metal bands put bass into the mix.
Listen to his original version before they changed it for the song. Absolutely beautiful and really dark
Twenty Four Hours is godly
Indeed
Respect for featuring Manic Street Preachers, they somehow get under a lot of people's radar, which is unfortunate
Holy Bilbe is one of my favourite albums ever.
I 2nd both of these comments
Amazing band. Seen them a few times. They should be considered one of the greatest.
Agreed, James Dean Bradfield and Nick Wire are awesome players

Don't forget Sean Moore. A man has a good groove and we all should be thankful for his trumpet solo on Kevin Carter, great stuff
3 of my favourite intro’s, Type O, The Manics and Joy Division!
I also think of Disorder or Shadowplay by Joy Division, and although it’s not an intro 4st 7lb by Manic Street Preachers is quite a “dark” bass line.
Keep up the good work!
Thanks man.
I want so badly to see a bass cover of Shadowplay .
Bloxsy on basss, and he starts with Mind and Would? Perfection.
Thinking of a lot of basslines that define the song so much that I think of them as standalone intros but upon listening actually aren't, like "Nick the Stripper", or "Dirt" by the Stooges. Great selection as always.
Yeah, I know what you mean. Like 'Enter Sandman', 'Six Inch Gold Blade', 'Transmission' or 'Eighties'.
Megadeth, SOUNDGARDEN, Alice in Chains, Melvins , Type O negative, Janes addiction, the cure, rage against the machine and tool Sober 🤘🤘🔥🔥and OZZY OSBOURNE Believer 🤘🤘is why subscribed HELL YEAH !!
Melvins, Tool and Jane's Addiction, the holy triad.
Respect to the man Bloxsy for adding Manic Street Preachers. Also I woke up with "Would?" by AIC stuck in my head and there is was. Lots of other super cool choices too" Joy Division, Melvins, RATM and more!
That tone!!! Great job as always!
Thank you!
Sorry, I have to disagree. It sounds DI to me.
Night Goat was a great pick!
One of my all time favorite intro !
Twenty four hours is so fucking good
Ayyyy bauhaus and joy division
my fav dark bass intro has to be stigmata martyr by bauhaus... so empty and evil and addictive
So glad you included Archives of Pain, love that intro.
It's fun to play!
Awesome stuff. Made me try Dawn Patrol as well! Love that song. Struggling on the 8-9, 9-8,7-8,8-7 bit though!
There is so much metal out there but the first one I thought off was U2's Bullet The Blue Sky.
Great! I missed Mexicola from Queens Of The Stone Age, but it was a great list!
Fuck yeah!
You can't quit me baby is even better !
In Dark bass intro, we trust 🤘🏻👍🏻
Three Days. Great choice. A haunting bassline. ❤️
4:58 thanks for doing my recommendation, sounds killer!
Thanks dude and thanks for the suggestion.
Also the rest of the video is played stellar
I geeked out especially hard for Black #1 and Settle For Nothing. Fun list with a lot of nice deep cuts on it, ty sir!
Thank you!
YES SOUNDGARDEN AND THE MANICS!! Great video!
I was hoping for something from My War and I'm glad you included Three Nights.
My personal favourite dark bass intro is from 'Dust to Dust' by The Warning. I feel like it already sets the tone for the entire album that follows afterwards (which has quite the dark theme) so it is very fitting imo.
omg i was not expecting "three days" to be in there. my fav song of all time.
Good list and great playing!
Was surprised mudshovel from staind didn’t make the list. Always thought that was a pretty dark/heavy bass riff.
Nice touch breaking up the darkness a bit with good old Boris 🕷️👍
Yeah love that song. Was tempted to play the whole thing
Entwistle!
ayyy I'm glad you included my suggestion
Thanks for the idea!
really amazing how the P-bass sounds on this video 💯💯
My first thought after reading the title was Mind and you didn't disappoint 😆 Great playing as always
Mountain Song - Jane’s Addiction
Nice New Bass!
Pretty new yes! Thanks!
You should a video for more post punk/gothic basslines! That would be awesome dude.
Boris the spider probably first ever heavy metal song imo
Dead Babies is the darkest song ever written imo. Thought you might play London Dungeon, excellent song selection & playing.
finallyyyyy some recognition for “believer” by ozzy. it’s such an underrated song 😭🙌🏽
Night Goat is an all time classic.

Yeah I might do a separate video for post-punk stuff.
Very nice list and playing, glad to see my suggestion as well (the holy hour)
I feel like I Bleed by the Pixies would’ve fit here perfectly
I would just like to see a "Top 10 Pixies Basslines" video. Kim Deal is definitely one of the g.o.a.t.s, imo!
Hollow Hills is indeed dark. Great video!
i love how bauhaus have like 4 pretty bright songs then the entire rest of their discog is incredibly gloomy and dark lol thats why i love them
@@growskull indeed hahaha I also love them for that!
The Cure Fascination Street
A forest ❤
Clean agressive tone man, keep it up.👌🏻
3 days was great man
eyehategod has the best bass intros
Great video man, i always love the dark tone!. Other bass song that may have a dark tone is "Coma" from Guns N' Roses, great dark intro!. Cheers from Argentina
I’d love a video of surprising bass lines.
Paradise by Sade for example.
One of my favourite ever bass lines.
Or Imagination (12 inch mix) by Belouis Some.
Which also has some great melodic bass playing.
i love your dark/heavy riffs videos!!! keep doin them :D
Thanks! Will do.
Dark & Gothic dark wave material always goes perfectly with Bass guitar. This video is so perfect 🖤🩶
Crisp with a heap of underappreciated songs; very nice thanks.
Sick list! Stoked tool appeared I think the intro riff to the morticians flame by acid bath is super evil too
Nice start SOAD lml
Glad to have seen SOAD in this video :-) also "One weak" by Deftones has a very dark sinister bassline that would've been a good one to have on the list in my opinion. You should make a part two of this!
Night Goat tone is perfect
I see System (incredibly underrated song imo), Sober, Type O Negative and The Who and I’m happy, fucking love those songs
First thought when i read "dark bass intros" waa archives of pain, v glad u put it in there😍
Heck yeah Manic Street Preachers!❤ Thanks for video
Glad to hear some Bauhaus! Nice playing!
Boris the Spider!! Nah…..
The rest are spot on although picking a Dark JD bass line isn’t easy! 24hrs would be my pick with a shout to Wilderness.
Awesome. I think I also would've put for whom the Bell tolls, maybe flood by tool, definitely H
I think Animal I Have Become could have gone on if you thought it might work. Love that bass intro.
Dawn patrol is such a good bassline
" I just wish I could live in a place where Autumn never ended".
-Peter Steele (Jan 4, 1962 - April 14, 2010).
Rest in peace, Green Man. The Type O family loves you always & forever.
Nice video!!
Israel's Son from Silverchair is another bass intro that is dark asf
True
Hell yeah Hollow Hills, such a satisfying but simple one to learn.
It's interesting though how many of these aren't "Darkly" voices at all, by virtue of using a pick they tend to sound brighter both here and often on the original record.
So many great ones on this list
Rotten apple by aic is still my favorite bassline of all time. Sounds dark and chill at the same time
Very nice content, I enjoyed this video so much! It gave me inspiration for songs to listen and for my own bass lines :--D . Good job, well done. (extra thanks for putting Joy Division in video
Thanks. That’s cool hope it inspires your next bass line!
hey man nice bass
I've been having a lot of fun playing Type O Negative songs lately! I've just started learning how to play with a pick and their songs use a lot of picks (at least, according to the tabs on Songster), and a lot of their songs are tuned to BEAD, so I can finally use that fat floppy string on my 5-string bass! :P
You missed Bella Lugosi’s Dead
This entire list could be Peter Hook
Great Tone
Good to know that Alice in chains would.
One that stands out to me is the intro to I Love You by Fontaines DC.
Great selection!👍 a good one to try out would be "Machines of Loving Grace-Golgothan tenement blues" off The Crow soundtrack 🎧👌
Settle for Nothing by RATM has nice menace
Tire Me is also another good addition.
Might not be a dark song but another good track with a bass intro
He plays with pick
I always appreciate that 🖤🖤🖤
I loved all of them ! In part two can you include some failure songs? For example "frogs' would fit
I knew Would? would be here. Thank you
Bauhaus Double Dare!
Ha! Was just about to suggest "Dead Babies" but you beat me to it! Holy shit, "Night Goat", yes!! Okay, there's no way you're gonna do "Boris th...never mind
*YES*
Fantastic as always
Thank you.
Great selection, as always!
Thanks dude
great compilation btw
Thank you.
Great video. My favorite UA-cam channel.
Thanks
Please do more Bass stuff, love it
I was hoping for Three Nights, one of Black Flags best songs
Soundgarden, Melvins, Tool, Jane's Addiction... west coast. Filter mid west. Type O Negative NYC
Slave & Bullozers punchs good to My ears 🔥🔥🔥. Lounge Act from Nirvana could be in the next list. 🥸
respect to you👍
I can’t believe you left out Dazed and Confused!
Haha yeah I thought about it but I've played that riff so much lol
I also think The Stranglers - Enough Time is quite a dark bass intro to
'I Don't Believe a Word' by Motorhead has a pretty good 'dark' bass intro.
