On bass playing with a pick istotally different than with fingers. Its totally different. If you alternate pick you get two different tones. Down picking gives you a heavier tobe than up picking. And the alternate pickin with a pick adds to the music. If you play it with fingers it just dont sound the same. With fingers it dounds more monotone. With a pick you get a sort of galopping effect on bass. That adds to the tone. Just from the pure thickness of bass strings how you pick the strings can either add to or kill the song. AKA make the bass lune monotone. The sound is not as decernable on the guitars but on bass it is. Playing bass? You are the rythem and groove bridging between the drummer and guitar/guitars. You have a lot of freedom to play with. So play with it. Perfect example for finger picking. Black Sabbath's Black Sabbath. That slide on bass has to go up to the octave on the A string and back down. On the A string you have to slude up and back down to and from the 16th fret to get the full effect. Geezer slid up to the octave of the diminished fifth and back dow and hit the root again. A G on the E string and the octave G on the D string and a diminished fifth on the A string slid up to the octave and back down and hitthe G again never think you can just slud up and down. That C sharp or D flat needs to slude a full twelve frets from where you play. It takes some practice for sure. But playing bass is always playing the thirds, fourths, fifths and octaves. As a bassist you are never there to play lead guitar and belueve me you can stand out without noodling. Rock and southern rock is a lot easier to stand out because your guitar is playing between the six strings. Metal is a little harder to stand out because of distortion and metal heads really can't discern between bass and guitar but its there. Findthe bass in the drums. I have played guitars and bass. I love playing bass i can do more on bass than I ever did on guitars. On a 4 string I can play and walk up to the octaves or play a lower octave using thirds fourts and fifths. I have learned more about music theory on basd than i ever did on guitar. If that makes sense? I would say bass is more simple than guitar but it forces you to learn more than tabs. How will I get from this note to the next and what can I do to add to the next note? Ormaybe an octave or two two higher or very few times lower? Can I put more emphasis on a bass line playing a fifth higher than the guitars. Stay with the guitars in a riff or keep with the drummer in a monotonous 1/8 in the key. Or should I split it in the verses? Thats pretty powerful. Keep with the guitar riff and split to the key mudway ACDC's Givin the Dog a Bone was perfect on this aspect.
@@daveweed2765 It's perfectly possible to 'gallop' using fingers, just listen to Steve Harris, in fact the term gallop was first used to describe his playing style

I won't lie, I clicked the thumbnail to talk shit about a 6 string bass... and I almost immediately ate the shit I was coming to talk. Sick cover brother, keep up the good work!
the bass guitar looks like a weapon for thunder gods; the afro makes you cooler than Sammy Jackson; your skills and playing are god tier level; your tone just slays! Dude just make a band and take over the world, you already have everything you need for it
That thing looks like it's from a cartoon with non-musically inclined producers who don't understand the difference between a guitar and a bass, except it's actually real.
I did'nt even knew that such a thing like an 6 string explorer bass ever existed, and the first one I've ever seen was playing one of the sickest songs on bass.. Damn.
I saw a thumbnail with a skinny dude with glasses playing Megadeth on a HUGE bass with fingers, had to click because I knew it was be good and it was. Now to watch the Arise bass cover...
The most amazing to me is that not only you play it flawlessly with your fingers but you also achieve the same tone as the original with a pick. Those right hand’s fingers must be beef af!!
It is way harder with a pick on bass. It is significantly easier with fingers. Little to to wrist strain compared to alternate picking. You can do triplets, eighth notes, and sixteenth notes easily with consecutive fingers more efficiently. Gallops become almost trivial with 3 fingers.
@@Arycke it’s a very subjective way to see it. I have no problem with alternate picking and my wrist has way more endurance than my right hand fingers. I’ve been playing music for 15 years, don’t worry, I know the difference between complexity and hardness.
😂 In all seriousness, the strap across the top on Explorer-shaped bodies lets you both keep your axe from moving around too much and also angle the neck in a way that is comfortable for the fretting hand.

fret markings don't mean a thing for the player cause there are side dots that tells where u r accross the neck
