If your A/C needs a helping hand consider getting a window-unit A/C to assist (or even replace) your main unit. They have gotten so cheap compared to a professionally installed home A/C and the technology is far superior to what my memory told me they were like. In April my home unit stopped cooling but the heating portion still worked. The repairman (for $750!) got it working again with no guarantee and quoted me a $5300 replacement cost for a new unit. I bought 3 window units instead and the house is WAY, WAY cooler than it ever was with the central A/C. I bought two super-quiet units for 2 of the bedrooms. *They are the newest technology which places the noisy compressor completely outside the window.* One of the units only removes 5" of your 'glass window' viewing area. I bought a large 15,000BTU unit to cool the living room & kitchen. I installed everything myself, kudos to the internet. Below are links to the 3 units. Things to consider are: 1) Make sure you get a unit that cools to either 60 or 62 on the lowest setting. GE (General Electric) units only cool to 64 for instance. 2) Use the BTU rating to get into the general cooling range you want but more importantly find the high/medium/low CFM (cubic feet per minute) air output of the unit. 3) The name varies by manufacturer but get a unit with the 'Follow Me' feature which measures the room temperature via a sensor inside the remote control. www.amazon.com/gp/product/B085P28D2S $529.99 8000 BTU Soleus Air Saddle AC www.amazon.com/MIDEA-Conditioner-Flexibility-Installation-Smartphone/dp/B0867GMW9X $459.00 12000 BTU Midea MAW12V1QWT U-Shaped AC www.ebay.com/itm/Danby-15-000-BTU-3-Speed-Window-Air-Conditioner-w-700-Sq-Ft-Coverage-/223854970373 $419.00 15000 BTU Danby DAC150EB2WDB
I just checked those old links and I guess it's a seller's market *NOW.* I did this back in April so perhaps this is NOT best attempted in the "Dog Days" of Summer!
They do still have this *ONE UNIT* available in the new super-quiet models. It's only an 8000 BTU unit which can HELP keep a single bedroom extra-cool and not drown-out the sound of normal conversation. I wouldn't be surprised if it too were soon sold out. $339 www.amazon.com/MIDEA-Conditioner-Flexibility-Installation-Smartphone/dp/B08677DCKN It says _"will be released on July 20, 2020."_
We agree, it's really a nice place! Should be a fantastic rental choice for vacationers! If you happen to call Coco Plum Vacation Rentals about it, be sure to tell them you saw it here!!! Thanks!
That is such a beautiful home. The two things I like the most is the kitchen/dining/living area. That is such a nice layout. Next is that view of the ocean. As of course it's on the canal. Great video Laurie and Mark.. Keep up the good work.
Hi you guys! I am suffering in the NW, but I have a little place in Ft. Myers. Can't wait to get down there. You've got me thinking about the keys! Great videos!
All about that view!! The keys are just not big enough for everyone these days with this weird world today everyone wants a piece of USA paradise. My ❤ is in the keys! Love this info video n congrats to your friends on a wonderful home. Great rental too! Thanks again for sharing this with us. Enjoyed n look forward to the next
Hello guys, hope you guys are doing well. It looks like you're doing very well. LOL. Just wanted to tell you I love you videos! I found your channel by accident the other day and watched one and couldn't stop watching. I watched about 30 videos so far, going to watch them all when time permits. I like what you guys are doing with showing the houses for rent or sale that's pretty awesome! I I live in Ocala Florida, I've been wanting to come down there and spend about a week. Are there any cheaper places to rent weekly other than the $2,500 range? I was born in Miami but I haven't been down there since 1994. we moved to New York when I was 4 months old I came to Ocala to take care of my grandmother who recently passed. Anyway I'm rambling on sorry. just want to let you know I love your videos and keep up the great work guys! Hope to meet you one day.
Hi Jeff, thanks for joining us! This is Mark responding to you. I lived in Ocala for five years about 20 years ago and loved it! Sorry to hear about your grandmother. My mother still lives in the Villages. There are many homes here for rent less than $2500. I would say the bottom dollar for a rental on the water for a week is about $1500 and it will be small. But hey, you don't need much to have fun here! Call Barbara McKee at Coldwell Banker Schmidt realty, and tell her I sent you...she'll find you the perfect place to rent!
@@GablesOnTheGo hey thank you Mark! I will definitely check into that and I will tell her that you sent me. Have a great rest of your day guys. Can't wait to get down there and do some fishing I love all of your fishing videos. I love me some Mahi Mahi!
We are coming down June 26th and staying at Coral Bay Resort on the Gulf side. Do you have any video tours of that area? I have a 23' Key West Bluewater offshore boat and trying to figure out my best route to the ocean and to a bait shop accessible by boat. Love your videos 👍
We don't have any videos on that area just yet. Give me a shout when you get down here and I'll be glad to help you out with pointers on boating here. markgable@me.com
I love this house. Very nice with lots of room for living. I am wondering what price range something like this would go for? Same condition similar design and yard. I know this video is almost a year old so prices will be different. Love all of you videos. Have watch so many. Can you tell me if there is anything like a mini version of Duvall st in the Marathon area? Bars, and pubs along with shops on the same drag?
That house would probably be in the $1.3 million range....estimating of course. Marathon does not have anything like Duval. Everything is located off of US1 either on the Gulf or Atlantic side of the road. Sort of spread out and not much of an area to walk to bars and restaurants.
Hi Guys my wife and I love the channel. Found you through Heiko’s channel and I am so jealous. You are really doing a great job with the videos. We live in Odessa FL right now but plan on moving down there in 3 - 5 years. I was wondering if you could do a video on the cost of building an elevated home on the water down there. A 3 - 2 would be ideal but could live with a 2 - 2. Seems like there are a lot of vacant lots but I don’t see prices on very many of them. Keep up the great job and hope to see you someday out on the water.
Thanks for joining us! We are working on some plans to do videos with more specific information about building costs and other expenses. Don't have everything ironed out just yet but we are moving that direction! There is a building permit moratorium coming up in a couple of years and apparently you will not be able to build anything new here. Most of the lots have been sold and folks are hanging on to them until the last minute people get desperate for land to build and they can get top dollar to sell them off. Better hurry if you are planning to build a new home! Thanks again!
@@GablesOnTheGoVery true. My memory says something in the ballpark of 10 or 11 thousand privately-owned, un-built lots exist in Monroe County which will be impacted by the moratorium. The state & county together are working jointly to come up with the money to compensate landowners for "loss of value" or "loss of use" or whatever the legal term is when a government action reduces the value of private property. I bet you the last penny I own that this thing ends up in a courtroom! And it doesn't take a genius to figure out which direction existing home prices will go.
I love watching watching your videos, makes me want to move somewhere in the keys. We have been there several times over the years. My question to you is are you still doing videos? Everything I see is a year old… I hope life is treating you well…
We are definitly still making videos! We've been a bit slower with them lately because we've been so busy, but be sure to click on "videos" and you can see a list of everything we've done if you are on a computer.
Awesome property. Clean with all new appliances and the location is prime, period. The access to the GOM and Atlantic are second to none. I absolutely enjoy your videos and will continue to "like and support" your page. The only issue with this property is only one boat would fit due to the owners boat on the lift. A typical rental with two families of 4 would require 2 boats. Perhaps the owners could remove their boat during rentals. Thank you.
I agree totally on your assessment of the property! It's a great spot for sure and there are always drawbacks to every home for rent down here....thank goodness there are many to choose from and most find a spot that works very well for them and makes their visit a great one! Thanks for watching Paul!
It was windy the last couple of weeks, but things seem to be settling in to the normal summer patter of light winds and afternoon thunderstorms...typical Keys weather!
One suggestion: if you could get some footage from across the canal that would really showcase the dock and outdoor areas as well as show the neighboring yards. Great job though. fun to see how the 1% live.
We should have asked Amy and Chad while we were there. It's awesome how much we learn from folks like you watching our channel and communicating with us! Thanks for the info...and now we know!!
If you could afford let's say up to 1.8 million for a home, what area would you buy? Must have good water and easy bay and ocean access, and not littered with rentals around you. More of a neighborhood?
In the Marathon area....Coco Plum without a doubt. We really love that area. Check out our video "Chump Change" if you've not seen it...that's Coco Plum.
Marathon is nice but its a ways to get anywhere north or south, in peak season the road is crowded and can be very slow, if your plan is to get there and stay put- be out on the boat all the time, 1.8 will go far in Marathon. That budget may not get you as much in Islamorada/Tavernier/ Key Largo but you will find bay and ocean access properties in nice family neighborhoods with the option to get into Miami for a change. I have a place in Tavernier, I like that I can be at MIA in about an hour.
Amy and Chad really did not want to disclose that and we respect their wishes so we can't say. We can say that comparable homes here in Marathon will cost you between $750,000 and $1,000,000 Keep in mind, their home is new construction.
