I live in Lancaster and can confirm that Preston is best avoided.
As is Lancaster. Awful place full of drug fuelled university students.
I have never had a good trip to Preston. It is eternally cursed. Every time I go something bad happens.
@@lewkio Try visiting the next city you come to going north you will be well depressed. Still haven’t got over my visit to it a few years ago. 🫣
Hi Colonel, you were in the zone with this one. It`s so good hearing you enjoying commentary. You made me laugh myself silly after a hard day, thank you for that. Death Star, Ahoy!
It's so good to see that the half-wind of the destination blind is also a feature of British Rail as well as in Australia!
Very enjoyable video, Colonel. You summed up the Pacers' perfectly when you called them junk. I used to hate riding on them.
The nostalgia of you saying Transport Fever when you mean Train Sim World... never change!
The bit with the rollsign in the beginning already had me doubled over in laughter. Ahhhhh so relatable with old transit! Well done, Colonel!
Also surprised they have the modern "Ping!" AWS instead of the old bell. I wonder when the modern electronic AWS came about.
these videos remind me that while my memory of visiting England was that it was charming and the people were very nice and the series of bed and breakfasts I stayed at were lovely, that people who live there like to grumble about the place. Though this may be the famous British self-deprecating humor sailing over my head, distinctly possible.
Yes, it's vitally important to know that natives grumble a lot, but visitors will cause great offense if they do the same.
I've played this four or five times, and your comments about Preston still have me wheezing. With laughter. 🤣
Every announcement on public transport should be presented with a bosun whistle.
That’s a change of pace, an incident free train ride. Well done Uncle Captain Pilot Failure, have a 🥇
Wonderful - a North West service in a "Skipper" (South West) liveried Pacer.
They would have been immesuarbly improved by the provision of even small bogies instead of the single axles.
Mouthy grab-face thing?? Pharyngeal jaws! Oh wait, you're winding us up again, well played sir.
Never had an issue with the pacers, quite liked em
The hustle is strong with this one.
What a fun ride
I love the movie Aliens, you were spot on with the dialog 🤣
Like someone mention, that class 101 ride was epic
I have a friend who grew up in 1980s Blackpool. Hell on earth summed it up nicely. A Pacer is the despair icing on the cake of hellishness.
According to the Government's Index of Multiple Deprivation, out of the 10 most deprived areas in England, 8 out of the 10 are in Blackpool. Another one is in Liverpool, and the remaining one (and most deprived) is in another seaside town, Jaywick in Essex.
I loved the celebratory honk, the double trolling about swingy-arm signalling things, and no I didn't notice that the snow in the thumbnail never showed up in the video 😊
Nothing beats Colonel failure playing with his train🎉😂
Spent my day working in Preston, its probably the roughest part of the Lancaster canal. Was working right next to the Blackpool line for a lot if the day
My local line. Used to love riding the pacer as a kid. just as good as the roller-coaster and the end of the line well if you had gone Blackpool south. I could see my house towards the end of the line.
Yay! Passenger announcement. Love you Colonel!
Thanks CF, this was a nice surprise.
Every Pacer I have been on... Which living in the North West was a lot... had somewhat questionable stains on most seats.
And fluids. I never mentioned the fluids. No matter the weather, there were always pools of something onerous on the floor.
I really needed a good laugh. Thank you, Colonel. :)
As a local to Preston myself, yup - very much best avoided.
A Chernobyl reference would've been more appropriate Colonel. You were passing by the British Nuclear Fuels Springfields facility at that exact moment. Then again, I worked there in my youth and Aliens isn't too far off the mark either.
Pepsi, pop culture reference. I see what you did there...And it's Bob that owes money
To quote Douglas Adams, "it's a by-pass, you have to build by-passes."
CF, I think the pacer also has working public address system. Button near handset.
1986? Ah, the year the Mister and I done got hitched. Jury is still out on whether that was a good year or just a year. I suppose as it's approaching 40 years, perhaps I am merely reluctant to admit that it must have been a good year.
FINALLY TRAIN SIM 4
blackpool? not been for ages, mind if i hop onboard?
I'm from Lancaster, bit North of Preston. You're right, it's a shithole and definitely best avoided
We're on our way home.
Back to the old Freezerinos
And to think they were still using Pacers until 2017.
6:38 headlight burnt out. Very realistic
The big one didn't open until may 1994, I know that but it opened about 2 weeks after I was born
Only good thing in Preston is the motorcycle clothing shop and five guys for a burger.
Woo wave as you go past 👋😄
And on another serious note that train ride was uncharacteristically safe not what we usually get when CF has his hands on the throttle. usually, I have to be helped from my seat as the knees have gone and I'm covered in sweat and starting to dribble only wanting a taxi as far away from the station vowing never to travel if CF is doing the driving. But as he was driving a pacer we shouldn't expect too much on the way to Blackpool in January.
With Blackpool trains looks like a bus on rails
Ah, a train video. Could this be an indication of a new upcoming TF2 series (I'm grasping every straw here)?
We used to call them the bendy bus😉
You got the true abouts the pacers
There’s announcements on the 142 for this route and west Cornwall local Colonel! Press g on your keyboard or press the phone on the left
Yeah, not worth coming to Preston!
11:01
"Nice. Hair. Sort of."
lmao
25:37 presume the line closure notice was true to life?
the sullenest person I ever knew was from Preston
PNE
I'm also from 1986, so you could have made many references about me and my life so far.
But I accept that you don't know me, nor did were you aware of the fact I was born in 1986, so I will accept this omission, and remain content with the other references.
Plus I'm far less interesting than Aliens, Top Gun and Chernobyl. And I'm far less dangerous to humanity than any of those.
Bit harsh. ;) Keep them coming...
Remember Preston ????
I HAVE noticed the lack of snow in your video and I'm NOT over it. Such lies.
Fun fact, i had been on this playing with the 31 engineering train, waiting at salwick , walking round like a yobo and nearly railed by serice 1M35 flying at 75
And the class 20 is a railtour touring the route
Since you've done this 10nner youk since about 2018 it shuld be about 15 now, why shuld steve get allthe inflaten for free when he is this tardy with repaying money?
This being 1986 and Steve owing him a tenner for an undisclosed amount of time before that, I'd say he owes somewhere north of 40 years inflation!
@@Mettasutta1970 right i wass refferencing the wrong starting point thanks for rhe correction :)
@@bjarnenilsson80 Oh no sorry, I wasn't trying to correct you, I just made a poor attempt at trying to be funny.
Remember the "How Fast Can a Class 101 Go" video? We may need a re-run using the Pacer!
You're waiting for RETURN TO THE ELECTROTHRUST TURBO SPEEDWAY.
@@colonelfailure A Class 101 on the Wurzburg-Kassel for the Electrothrust Le Mans (or Le Kassel) 24 Hour Edition. Probably still wouldn't make it.
I did (and recorded) 3 hours driving a class 08 on Kassel before decoupling my coach to see if it'd roll, only for it to break the signalling.
@@colonelfailure Sounds like a patreon/member exclusive. I also applaud the commitment, I only drove the DB Class 101 on it (200km/h top speed) and I thought that was pushing the limits of sanity a bit.
@@colonelfailure Sounds like a Vuvu Boys franchise to me with The Return being a sequel.
