Wow, who'd have thought that the poor little PS-1 could sound so great? Love that snare sound! Your work really is very inspiring. I already had the plan to start putting my collection of 80s keyboards to use, and listening to your great songs gives me some lovely ideas. Thanks a lot!
Nice stuff! I have had that exact little keyboard since it came out, one of those things I never let anyone throw away. I'm going to hook some pedals up 😊
Thanks Ethan. They don't pop up very often. In retrospect, I'd probably go for the PS-3 and get a few more voices. And yeah, that Yamaha chorus pedal has just the right level of detuning depth to sound great on keyboard parts.
@@alfonsemusic I have a really cool Yamaha PSS-270 which 8-bit keys famously reviewed. It's pretty cool considering I discovered it in a rubbish dump 😂
@@alfonsemusic well not quite! One of the speakers has become unconnected from the main motherboard so I need to sort that out sometime, but it doesn't affect the headphone port because I can get stereo sound with headphones!
Great stuff man! Inspiring! Very video game like! Amazing what you can do when sampling the PSS keyboards! I've already sampled my PSS390 and PSS140 completely. I should make a tune with them just like you do! As said, inspiring stuff that you do, Alfonse!
Thanks Johnny. Shame - they do have character, these original portasounds - one with a few more voice options would have been preferable to this PS1...
Would it be okay if I used this as outro music for a future video? (provided I ever get my sh*t together and make more videos?) With thorough credit, of course!
Hi Jesse - glad you like the track :) I'd be happy for you to do that (great videos by the way - love the animation!) - it's registered with UA-cam content ID, though, so you'd get ads. If that's no bother for you, you'd be welcome! alfonse.bandcamp.com/track/lens-flare-ps-1
@@alfonsemusic Thank you so much for both the permission, and for the kind words! ☺ I think that'd be a small price to pay for such a cool ending song!
Many of everybody's favorite pro keyboards/synths only sound good because of built-in effects! and are thin as all get out without them. The strength of the classic and instruments are in the basic waveforms, usually a lot more pernounced and are able to take effects and keep their character better!
Watching videos with PSS series, what people can do with them, i am starting to understand that synth does not matter, user does. Some people buy DX7, Electrons, Nord Leads, true modular synths spending thousands dollars, to have sounds like this.
Great video! I have also have a Yamaha PS-1 but I lost my power adapter. Can you share the specs of your adapter, like wattage, amperes and volts? Thank you!
Thanks Clyde. I don't have the PS1 any more, but looking at the video to see what I used, I think it would have been the standard adapter type for the 1980s Portasounds: 9-12V, centre positive.

@@alfonsemusic Me too :)
I don't know how many times I've watched this. Really showed me the potential of this synth.
It's nice to feel influential... Thanks for coming back!
This song has been stuck in my head for weeks and I bought one because of that!
😄 Nice one! Hope you're enjoying your purchase
Awesome demo!

Guaranteed that no engineer or executive at Yamaha ever thought that this scrappy synth could ever sound this good.
yes they did, because it does..... this has all been put together in a D.A.W anyway.
I've never seen a PS-1 around before! Great track that piano solo is awesome has awesome detuned vibe:)

An artist making great tracks with distilled sounds!
Thanks Rodrigo! :)
It is good to see the little ps1 in such great performance.
Had a Vangelis tone at 1:42
Simply awesome!
wonderful music!!!
Thanks! :)
Amazing masterpiece with lofi keyboard :)
Very nice strings !!
Thanks Philippe. That Yamaha chorus pedal really helps.

I own this superb piano 😊
These are still affordable on eBay and although it's pretty basic, I think the sound of it punches above it's weight
Damn fine
Cool track. Beautiful melodie. Yes, ”boring” keyboards needs more fun with guitar pedals.
Thanks for listening, Jörgen. Agreed, adding a pedal can transform those basic sounds.

Fantstic :-)
Genial
Great one! I just discovered those 3 early PS keyboards and love their sounds, almost being teleported into old games hahah
It's a great raw sound, good for running through pedals etc

How to connect it to audio interface?
It has a headphone jack output, so you can connect an instrument cable from there to your audio interface input.
@@alfonsemusic thank you so much!! Planning to get one after watching ur vid!

How did you connect it to the pedals? Or interface? Thanks!
Via an audio cable plugged into the headphone jack on the right hand side
The only thing missing on these would be MIDI in/out/thru connections and it would be perfect.
I'm sure somebody somewhere can make that happen... (not me, though!)
I'm actually working on that right now, lol
@@jacobfernandez1870 Any luck with it?

Not exactly real world example with all those reverb machines and gizmos 😂. Yeah, it sounds good when you add ton of hardware with it.
Just bought one at a thrift shop for $10 including the case
