This is the discussion I had with a friend of mine in Nigeria today. She was telling me about a couple that sold all their properties, their stores and moved to the West. I told her no reasonable person in Nigeria doing well financially should move to the West.

Move to the west if you are broke, doing nothing. Do not move if you are doing fine...especially 5, 6 or 7 figures in nigeria. Do not!!

People do this a lot and it is an act of stupidity. How can you do that when you haven't been to the country to see if it is greener or not instead of listening to western media? In my opinion, people should first go on a tour with an open mind to see for themselves because taking the risk. I know a couple who sold all their properties and resigned from their well paid jobs to move to Canada. When they got there, they realised that it was worse but, pride no gree make dem come back to 9ja.

You have summarised the whole concept of how the minds of Black people work. I am very glad you noticed it. For one thing, I don't think Phrakleen is too eager about money affairs, he's very passionate about the plight and condition of our people and to inject undiluted truth with no left over. Solemn "soft powers " easily works around our people the attention of time they give to looking good they don't give personal reflective thinking that type of time or nothing at all. All this reminds me what Thomas Jefferson and Frantz Fanon put in thier writing memoirs on Blacks. Even the recent late Kevin Samuel was seriously worried during his life time. The price is we would be here for a long haul to break through 😢😢😮

My brother I am not sure how I ended up here but you are absolutely correct. Being from Cameroon I must say that unfortunately ours is a country where the playing field is completely uneven and made even harder for the English speaking peoples of Cameroon. So coming to the west seemed as the best alternative. But we suffer here. The hype of the west is definitely not true. Yes some of us do make decent lives but we have to conform to a reality that is definitely NOT ours. If we have the opportunity to go back home and be Africans, that is always best. Thank you for the knowledge and insights. Keep doing what you do. We applaud you.

You are so right about being victims of neocolonialism, or 'the white man's ice is colder'. It is shocking that a middle-aged man with a wife and kids, self-built home and a good job would leave all that to move to a much more expensive country without the guarantee of a job. If you had to live with a friend even for a week, that was an irresponsible move.
It is truly sad what this man went through.
Some people grow up in the diaspora(from a young age) and end up settling there and living relatively well. That's is far different than someone who leaves all they have built to start over in a new country without having saved 1 year's living expense.
Imagine someone like SisiYemmie - successful Nigerian YTer deciding to move to UK. That would be a dumb move because she will have to start over in an expensive country and lower her quality of life just to live well.
    Take note, people.
