A heads up you were deleting the evap box would have been great at the beginning of the video. I followed along step by step only to realize the evap box wasn’t going back on and it was a pain in the ass to reinstall and get the breather hoses back to where they all were.
It's a monster of a job! Just out a tender on when you replace the battery and you won't have to worry about it for a while, but of course most other jobs require tank off, so it's all fun with a Monster! I've just stripped mine down again as the fuel pump is dead. An easy'ish job, just time consuming.
If you think this is bad, you should see what it takes to get to the battery on my MV Agusta F3. The entire tail fairing, seat, gas tank and TRIPLE TREE CLAMP have to come off to lift the tank. 😅
It was designed by a smart person, who intended the battery to only need to be replaced once every 8 years or so. By that point you would have needed to go in there for other service. The problem is, people don't maintain their batteries, or they buy cheap ones that don't last more than a few years.
You don’t have to dismantle all those hoses. You just pop the 2 hoses off at the gas cap. None of the monsters have that left side tank mount bolt installed from the factory.
I'm changing the battery as we type. So I don't have to take all that other stuff off? Just the 2 hoses going to the top? Wonder why he took all of it off.
@@andreww.2579 yup just the tank plastics off, right side tank bolt, bolt under the seat, pop those 2 hoses and it will lift up. Changed mine like that a few weeks ago zero issues
this guy is correct . ive done my battery twice. the guy who posted this video totally unnecessarily did more work than the alot of work already involved...
I wanted to stop by and say think you again for this video and the responses to my questions. I did remove the two hoses on top of the tank and that made it easier to just set aside. Battery went and everything went back together perfectly. Anyone have a link on doing brake and clutch fluid changes. I'm sure it's all the same but seeing it done on a 796 or any other Duc for that matter really helps.
DON'T DO THIS. YOU CAN REPLACE THE BATTERY MUCH MORE EASILY THAN THIS GUY DOES. JUST REMOVE PARTIALLY THE GAS TANK, ENOUGH TO REACH THE BATTERY BUY WITHOUT DISCONECTING ANY OF THE FUEL TUBES. PARK MOMENTARILLY THE GAS TANK BESIDES THE BIKE USING SOME KIND OF STAND (THE TUBES LENGHT ALLOW THIS FINE), REPLACE THE BATTERY AND PUT THE TANK BACK IN PLACE. THAT IS. THERE ARE SEVERAL TUTORIALS IN THE WEB IF YOU DON'T BELIEVE.
Just bought a Duc. The previous owner put the battery in backwards. Yes backwards. What damage could this cause? What may have been damaged that would cause the cycle not to start If the battery was put in correctly?
Great video! Thanks for the parts list for the charcoal canister removal in the linked vid. In this video (4:12), you have a tool to use a box end/open end wrench with a torque wrench. Do you have to do the distance calculation to get an accurate torque? What tool is this and where can you get this?
The bolt that was missing that connected the actual gas tank to the trellis frame, did you ever replace it? Mine was missing in the same exact spot on a 2012 Monster 796ABS. I’m trying to figure out where to get a replacement.
They're not missing a bolt, it's a threaded post that never had one. Typically the other side has one, no point for a second one, actually I leave them out altogether when going back together.
Hi Arthur, If your bike is an ABS model, you may have forgotten to connect the ABS ground cable to the negative battery post (black wire, usually ribbed). It's confusing because the wire I'm talking about routes in from the positive side, so it's common to reconnect this to the positive terminal. You can see me routing this cable at 3:19. Ride, Wrench, Repeat.
Most stupid place ever to put a battery , don't get me wrong I love working on my bikes , there's a great deal of satisfaction from a job well done ....but all that faff just to get to the battery . Maybe its just trying to develop that love /hate relationship 🤔

Just to get to the battery?! I'm here because I need a new battery in my Ducati, and now I wish I had a Honda.
i had a Honda CB500 1997 before my Ducati 1100 Evo..........i'm crying rn

Thanks for sharing this video. Just replaced my dead battery.

Somebody needs to make a battery relocation kit for this bike lol
It seems the location of the battery was designed by a stupid guy. Thanks for the video

Wow, those ducatis are divas, what a pain in the ass for a battery
dude watched you rebuild the YZ250 a long time ago while I was rebuilding mine and now here with a Ducati Monster. Great channel!

Nice info thank you
Good point Jason! You're correct. I shot this video at the same time that I removed the EVAP canister (different video).

Thank you for the video, hugs from Brazil!
Big help thanks, thought my R1100S was too involved.

This one is the best on youtube - Thank you!
First great video I used it to replace my battery. Second where did you get the seat cowl I’ve been looking but not quite sure who to trust.

thank you for the video. I was missing the same bolt as well. Not sure why it's the same one.
Please what is the brand of your pads on the tank ! I really like them !
Also what are the brand of the tools you are using ?
Thank you

Nice video, it helps me to replace the battery of my 796 2013. Thank you
Is it a problem if the tank is not empty?
Can you tell me what you use to clean your bike? Mine doesn't shine like that
Good day sir i have 795 ducati can you show na wiring connection color code
Hello , this is the same process for 696 ?
The bolt that was missing that connected the actual gas tank to the trellis frame, did you ever replace it? Mine was missing in the same exact spot on a 2012 Monster 796ABS. I’m trying to figure out where to get a replacement.

There was no screw missing it only as one
Why did you replace the battery when it only had 3500 clicks
Hey, do u know about 821 battery replacement? Thanks
Is it the same process for the 821?
Is the procedure the same for a 796 ABS?
Hey guy, i made the service but now my velocimeter is not working anymore. Do you know what mistake i've done?

I did all this work, put new battery in, now my screen wont turn on when i turn the key

Geez….what was Ducati thinking ? 😆

lol...... all that for a battery? Who was the a-hole that designed this???
does the tank have to be empty?
No, just keep it upright when you rotate it out of the way
