Rheem HVAC Fan Motor ECM 2.3 Step by Step Repair with a new ECM 3.0 (Serviced 2022)

These HVAC fan motor ECM by Genteq are bad quality and they go bad every few years. DIY replacing them is very easy if you are a handy person and know your specific ECM programmed part number. saves you a lot of money to have an HVAC guy to do it and they will sell you other thing you don't need.
Mine is a Rheem 3 Ton air handler with a 1/2 hp motor for 1200 CFM. the new ECM 3.0 part number is 51-104904-10, programmed for this air handler.
I have another 2 air handlers with a 4 Ton and a 5 Ton, which all 3 motor ECMs will burn out every few years and have to replace the ECM for $400 ea part. perhaps the static pressure gets higher as the system ages, but the air flow in general is very good. the filter is good, the coils are fine...
the ECM 3.0 is still a bad design and bad quality. they still fail the same way as the 2.3. with today's EV motor technology advancements in the past 10yrs, Genteq needs to fix their ECM designs or charge a lot less for this simple module.

I paid $1549 last summer to have the guy replace it. and he told me the whole motor was bad. He spend only a few minutes to troubleshoot and told me that was the only option. I believed him. I didn't know this module is a common problem. Thanks.👍

Sometimes is the module ,,, sometimes is the motor housing,,,,is recommended to replace the entire thing

I thought ECM 3.0 is 4 pin. The new one you installed appears to be 16 pin matching the 2.3. Did you install EON? EON is direct replacement for 2.3.

did you fixed the water leak you have a condensation problem look @ your p trap it might be closed

not yet. probably wait till spring when weather allows me to shut it down a week to look for the leak. it is dripping from the heating coil. the p trap is fine. thanks for the suggestion.
