One of the greatest guitar trios in music history Allan Collins, Gary Rossington, and Steve Gaines. Lynyrd Skynyrd has always had great guitar players.
the plane crash was just a couple of months after this performance-I never get tired of this video-and yeah all these guys woulda been fun to hang with..many stories from Jacksonville Fla when they 1st started- and you look fine-great reaction
Lynyrd Skynyrds Live album "One More From the Road" had been released only months earlier and the Live version of "Freebird" had quickly become a staple on Album Oriented Rock Radio so by the time of this show the crowd was pumped because they knew what was coming . Also "Why so many Girls ?" Skynyrd was an opening act for headliner Peter Frampton who was something of a favorite of all of the girlies who fancied him because of his Poster Boy Good Looks & also for his "Frampton Comes Alive" album which was a HUGE hit at that time . The Lynyrd Skynrd line-up that day and also the ones who would be in the plane crash . Ronnie Van Zant , :Lead Vocals , Gary Rossington Lead & Slide Guitar , Allen Collins Lead Guitar (Played the songs primary solo ) Steve Gaines ("The New Guy") Lead Guitar & Vocals , Leon Wilkerson , Bass & Vocals , Billy Powell , Piano , Artimus Pyle , Drums . "The Honkettes" ( not seen in the video) Cassie Gaines (Steve's Sister ) Jo Jo Billingsley & Leslie Hawkins . Both of the Gaines & Van Zant perished in the crash ,along with Skynrd's Road manager Dean Kirkpatrick .
It's y'all's channel to do how you want. Of you want or need to pause anywhere , do so. I've heard this enough so it aint gonna kill me. If i want to hear it uncut , i can do it at anytime. Rock on folks , btw , great content.
Great reaction. Been watching you guys for awhile but never subscribed, till now. Not just because I love Skynyrd but you guys always seem happy, much respect to you both.
@@smoothcs7366 Awww. Love this song!! I’ve only heard the live version but we plan on reacting to the regular studio version once we do more of the band :) They’re amazing. -Ashley
They had many hits other than Free Bird, such as Sweet Home Alabama, That Smell, Gimme Back My Bullets, The Ballad Of Curtis Lowe, Simple Man, Tuesday's Gone, Saturday Night Special, Call Me The Breeze, Gimme Three Steps, What's Your Name, On The Hunt and countless others.
Steve and Cassie Gaines died also. 6 total were killed. Sad day for the world as we knew it. Thanks to Molly Hatchett(Jacksonville) and The Outlars(Tampa) to name a few that kept southern rock alive. Days past as allembers of Hatchett have left the living. Try Dreams I'll Never See by them.
Love your new channel. Going to check out some more. I have a good one for you. "Triumph" Band, LIVE, US festival 1983. Magic Power, Fight the good fight to start. You will like it. Promise. No auto tune but as good as it gets live sound and vocals. Great reaction to Free bird , glad you did the live. Be Well.
This is truly one of the most epic live performances ever recorded. The band members were: Ronnie Van Zant - Lead singer Gary Rossington - Slide and rhythm guitar. He's wearing a long sleeve shirt and jeans. Alan Collins - Lead solo. Alan wrote the solo part when he was only 16 years old. He is wearing all white. Steve Gaines - Rhythm and doubles the lead on part. He is wearing a white shirt and red pants Leon Wilkeson - Bass guitar Billy Powell - Piano Artimus Pyle - Drums Steve Gaines was from Oklahoma and took over the third guitar part from Ed King (from California) who left the band. Artimus Pyle was from South Carolina and took Bob Burns place as drummer after Bob left the band. Ronnie, Gary, Alan, Leon, Billy and Bob were all from the west side of Jacksonville, Florida and most went to the same high school. The band's name is a parody of their physical education teacher, Leonard Skinner, who hassled them about their long hair. On October 20, 1977, Ronnie, Steve, Cassie Gaines (Steve's sister and a backing singer), their road manager and both pilots were killed when the chartered plane they were traveling on to their next concert ran out of fuel and crashed. All the other band members on the plane sustained injuries, many of them severe. Gary Rossington was the last living original member of the band when he passed away last year. Artimus Pyle (Drums) and Lesley Hawkins (Backing singer) are the only members of this version of the band that are still alive. Lynyrd Skynyrd was great in the studio, but their live performances were what really set them apart from other bands. Their level of musicianship was very high and they would practice 10 hours a day to optimize their parts. When the band added Ed King as a third guitarist (replaced by Steve Gaines) they were able to play all of the guitar parts in concert just as in the studio. Some other live performances you might want to check out are "T for Texas", "Call Me the Breeze" and, of course, "Sweet Home Alabama". However, bottom line, any Lynyrd Skynyrd song is a good Lynyrd Skynyrd song. Lynyrd Skynyrd continues to tour to this day, however, as all of the original members of the band have passed away and the only two members of this version still alive are not part of the current band, the current version is just a tribute band.
I see that yall are back. What happened to the channel before? Glad to see yall back though. I’ll resubscribe lol. Yall continuing the music journey on this channel?
You paused during the solo. It not only cut the mood of the listener, but your girl as well. Don't pause during solos for any reason except a fire in the house.

The era when tube tops, halter tops, and short shorts were the ladies fashion. 🙂 What a time to be alive! 😎

Yes sir Ronnie we still remember you...
LS is my favorite of all time. I just subbed on this reaction. Thank you for helping to keep their music alive and kicking.
I was 20 in that year. Wish I could have seen them, but I did see Led Zeppelin in a stadium just like that, so I can't complain too much.
I was 17 and I was the opposite I saw Skynyrd and wish I'd have seen Led Zeppelin.
If you've ever wondered what your parents and grandparents were doing back in the 70s, this video sums it up.
The story I heard was Peter Frampton was the following act and the future grandma's were there to see him.
@@russellgtyler8288 Aww how cool! That makes sense though lol. Thank you! -Ashley

Peter Frampton was the next scheduled performer-probably a lot of the reasons the girls were packed up front.

Simple man is a great one from Them , but also check out Shinedowns cover of that same song.
