I just finished Atomic Habits and I think something I want to try is to try something that seems like a pre-routine. Like listening to study music might signal your brain that it's study time, or putting on running clothes signals that it's time to run. I think they mentioned just like you that the biggest factors of these 'queues' that signal our brain is location and time. The same way goes for bad addiction as well, when a gambling addict hears those gambling machine noises, they're reaction in their brain is going to be different than someone who's not addicted. Same thing with smelling ciggaretes.
