For people disagreeing about the banana - it's solid advice backed up by science! Bananas contain tryptophan, which boosts serotonin in the brain (naturally helping calm nerves). It's also high in potassium and low in salt, which helps with blood pressure. Most athletes eat bananas before training, because of the natural sugars that briefly boost energy (sucrose, fructose, and glucose). They're also a natural antacid, soothing the stomach, and high in B vitamins (also calming). Science!
That is really good advice for life in general also, for example in business meetings. Which I have every 2 weeks. You inspire us all in so many ways. Thank You Very Much!
Thank you so much for this video! You are such a heartfelt mentor to all of us & give us so much inspiration on so many levels. Much love to the Hollens family!!!
I did follow similar advice a year ago, was myself, and nailed not 1, not 2, but three potential jobs! I had my pick and chose the most active, that would work with me and my schedule. You have to be careful with how you let people down when this happens, because you always want to leave those opportunities open. I chose the right job for me, and I'm glad to be where I'm at. Taking deep breaths help, if you're nervous. Also, when you know you are going to interview at more than 1 place, the worst thing that they can say is "No thank you." You begin to realize that maybe it wouldn't be a good fit for you and it's time to keep hunting. When the time is right and when the fit is right, you'll nail it! Good luck to any hunters, and kudos to Evynne for sharing how to be a success!
Thank you so much for those advices, I'll show your vlogs too all my friends who nerver trudt their selves when they pass an exam ! Lot of love from France.
I appreciated what you said about putting yourself and your heart into what you present. Sorta reminded me of my call interview at the church I'm serving now. I remember feeling like we were having a very honest and heart-felt conversation in the midst...and I got the call... Interesting that an interview for a church has connections with show business. I dig it.
This was incredibly helpful Ev! I kinda wish I saw this a few days ago when I had two auditions I was preparing for back to back! But thanks! I actually have callbacks for one tomorrow!! Wish me luck!
These are some great tips and tools! I'm going to be auditioning for a community theatre presentation of "Next to Normal". It doesn't pay, but the music is so sick!
Hi, thanks for all these tips, next year I'll doing my second audition for a very big school. Actually I'm in a school where I entered by an audition but for my next year's audition it's not the same thing, my first audition was for an art school and next year it's for a dance's school. So your isn't usless ^^ Thanks so much Evynne ^^
In more ways than one, these tips are very helpful! Promotions in your job, meetings of any sort, pursuing a career in music, etc... And might I add, you should always keep that smile on! That alone can help in boosting your confidence! Thank you ***** for sharing this video with us! :)
I remember this one time i had to play the national anthem on electric guitar for sections basketball game (the gym was absolutely packed!) and i got about half way through no problem and when suddenly my hands just went off on their own and i started playing half a step down from what it was suppose to be. but luckily i did my research and found out at this part in the song other famous musicians would do like a breakdown solo (basically shredding) so I somehow did all that and ended on the right note. the crowd went crazy. meanwhile i was like shaking because i almost blew the national anthem haha but it was a great experience :) i love your videos evynne!
Great advice video!! I really can second every bit of it - especially when I remember that I once failed spectaculary at an interview because I went in ill-prepared. Well, not so much inprepared, but stressed out, wet (because of rain on my way to the interview - i went by bike... ;-) ) and therefore grumpy. Not the kind of person I would accept into a course for elementary musical education. ;-) But I learned from that, believe me! :-)
The banana works! I have tried it. I am preparing for my audition for college, and I feel like I don't have enough music in my repertoire. When I spoke to the director about two years ago she asked me to sing for her it was like a mini audition I wasn't prepared at all i was so nervous,so she warmed me up with some scales and I sang Ave Maria, she said that I have good breath support but I needed to work on my theory. That has stuck with me since.I do get that nervous feeling that I won't reach that high note so I chicken out.I will take your advice and put it towards my audition thank you so much! :) Also I have family in Oregon what places do you suggest I visit? I would love to meet you and your family! :) little Ashland is getting so big its crazy how fast they grow up! :)
Evan what do you suggest for actors who are auditioning for a director who notoriously typecasts everything I love you so much thank you for making your videos Love Sarah
Sarah Fitzgerald Hmm...this is a tough one. I would say in this case...try to "become" the character as much as possible. Dress the part, style your hair the same way...or inspired by & try to sing something that's very similar to a song that character sings, etc. If you are sick of playing the ingenue and want the gritty character role, then you've got to go for it & prove you can handle it. Get out of your comfort zone too & just show them what you're capable of...you may even surprise yourself! ;)
hey Evynne. just an opinion on annotations. I think they should always open up in a new page. when your little mermaid annotation popped up I clicked on it, but then was like, "ack" because I didn't finish this video yet, and now trying to find where I was...maybe I'm just watching videos wrongly XD maybe I should finish a video through before I click on the next one, but this is the business of short attention spans :-/
