same. I haven't sung in public since I was 11. knowing I can be heard by others causes me to never sing outside of the house or the car, though part of me would love to.

What you said is so true! It helps so much. At the end of the school year, my school has a tradition to sing Hallelujah, and in yr 11, we sing soprano, and our music teacher always says, "imagine that you are looking over and singing over the note" (sort of the same thing as what you are saying).
Thank you for making these videos :3

Great comments Evynne, takes me back to my singing instructor when I was a young boy. Sing High = Think Low , Sing Low = Think High , Always have more breath than you think you need. It always worked for me.

This video is super helpful! I sing a lot in a small local theater. A lot of times when I hear the song I'm terrified of hitting certain notes so I will either not get there or wimp out and not support. Then sometime during practicing I'll just let it go and get over the fact that it might sound bad. Once I hit it practicing a few times it is so much easier to sing. It's all because my head stopped saying "you can't hit it, it's too high, you can't do it" and started thinking "you've done this before, you've got this!" Relaxing is important!

YES to all of this! And can I also say that having a teacher/director/mentor who believes in your ability to succeed is also a huge help towards learning confidence! One of my greatest moments in choir in college came from the director asking for one soprano to do the high note during the piece's climax, and people seemed hesitant to volunteer, so I thought to myself "Why not?" and I volunteered. And even though I wasn't the best singer in the room, and I didn't have the most self-confidence, I WANTED to be confident. From the moment I volunteered, our wonderful director firmly believed in and supported me. She told me I could - and would - hit that note. Our first run-through in practice, I didn't quite get there. But she smiled, let me know to take it up a bit, told me to relax, and the second time through I did it! She just gave me the thumbs up with complete calm confidence that she knew I would. And guess what? During the performance, as nervous as I was, when the note came up I knew I would hit it, because my director believed in me, and I believed in me. And I did! :)
I know it's just one note in one performance, but for someone of my limited experience level it meant a lot to me at the time - the confidence in myself and the confidence my director had in me. I think this video is perfect not just for students, but for mentors who want to encourage others and help give them confidence. Thank you!

I wish I had discovered you and Peter sooner. Your voices are so beautiful and while I know I have a good voice too, I was never able to get over my stage fright, I couldn't even sing in the car. So I ended up leaving choir and music behind for years. But since being introduced to your channels I have rediscovered my voice and am now singing the car louder than ever. Thank you for all you do. I still have yet to become truly confident in my singing but I am so much more comfortable than ever before. So thank you again! I can't wait for your next vid!

      Do it once.
      And one more time.
      And then one more time.
And then again... and then... again.
      Once more AND again!
The only cure really is just to do it.
As dumb as this might sound... I’m speaking from my own beginning experiences...

I've always had the lower voice, the "true Alto", with help and videos like yours, I have been able to do so much more than I thought I was capable of (I'm actually shocked at how high I can go). Love all of these videos and how good every tip is and how well you show it!

Wow you are a real darling. I love this video so much and I love your Over The Rainbow video too. I believe everything you said here.
Anyway I am relatively new to getting voice lessions and last week my teacher took me on an exercise down really low. Like down to the G below the lowest E on guitar. And I was amazed I could actually do it. I was watching the piano and in this case it was confidence building. But I do know what you mean about not watching the piano so you don't get scared.
Thank you so much for putting up such great videos. Your positivity is so awesome and you make it seem like it is all possible. Now I gotta test out your theory on myself. See if I can get to the B above the high E on guitar. Well the thing is not just getting these notes but being able to use them successfully in a song.

    Hello Evynne !
This video came to me like a miracle. I was casted to play Ariel at my university musical, and this first weeks of rehearsals Confidence is the less ai felt. I actually thought that I can't sing and that my performance in May will be horrible. Actually I'm a little bit scared that everyone will laugh and judge me cuz I know I'm not a soprano as Ariel. That are a few of my "problems" right now...
But certainly watching your videos makes me feel more comfortable and I wish you were my singing teacher, In a way you are and you've really helped me, every time I feel bad I'll watch this video all over again, your smile and Confidence made me feel conformance and believe in me... That I can do it and I'll practice a lot to give a great show. I'm a total fan of you and admire your soul and heart and God bless your family and voice. Thanks so much for making this videos. 💜

Oh my God Evynne thank you so so much! I watched this video like 100 times because I wanted to go up to that 1 Note and to practice it more but I just hit it once and then never again... That's why I watched your video so often, I knew your video is the key. Just a few hours ago I got all my confidence together and just sang that one song with this high notes in it. I warmed up as normal before, sang it and didn't hit the note. Then I remembered "you can hit those notes" and I DID IT!! And I was like WOW YES I CAN DO THIS and I did it again and again and it worked!
Thank you so so much you helped me so much and you are so beautiful and thank you so much again!
I'm going to practice more now, because of you I have now more motivation to move on. Thank you so so so much!

Evynne, do you think you could touch on exactly HOW to increase range? I know that there's good strain and bad strain, but I'm still a bit confused. I was in Musical Theater and Chorus for 3 years, but it was never explained to me how to increase, we just warmed up.
Now, I'm graduated, and not singing on a near daily basis and my range has shrunk a bit. I try to warm up when I can, but my progress isn't the same as it use to be...

+Emily Ann I will definitely do a video on this! Stay tuned! But for now I will say it's just all about practice, so warming up on both sides of your range everyday!

Evynne thanks you for making these videos. I've been playing music now for almost 6 years, I started playig the guitar when I was eleven then started to sing on my own when I was twelve, wich was quite hard for me 'cause my dad and sister were not so fond of my voice. So I starded singing in the choir and then I quit about two years later. Ever since I started to sing my dad always told me to only sing songs that suit my voice (Which was really annoying, 'cause he always told me to shut up when I was singing a song that I really liked) . Is it true that only certain songs can suit your voice?
    Sorry for the bad gramma.

i don't always believe know how to belt the high nots when i really can't hear it through my own vocal range because i don't really what vocal tension really is and nobody told me when i get so intense i'm too scared to believe in myself that i can hit the high notes i actually recovered in surgery for my throat and i really thought i was going to give up on something that i love to sing but it's hard but now i got better after that and i'm to afraid to believe that i know in my heart that i know that i have a voice and i personally want to be heard more and to not be in my own head

What’s your singing range? I’m a second soprano but I can also sing into the alto range but I need the confidence to do it with power.

Does anybody have an advice on neighbours outside their house.?I can hear them walking there and I’m too scared to belt. Besides I also sound like a whiny cat when I get really high so shame kicks in as well in those situations...

When I was with some of my friends they were talking about belting and how hard it was to do it. I didn't think it sounded to hard so I tried. I wasn't that bad until I had a massive voice break. I'm sure the whole damn school heard it

Always ignore him. If he makes you upset or tells you that you are bad at it you can challenge him to a singing duel XD Pretend he's not there. You also can sing LOUDER when he talks so he can't say a thing. Hope this works XD
