Pinion Seal Repair (Ford 9 inch)

- Ford 9 inch pinion seal repair on my 1976 E-150 van. Ford 9 inch rear ends are very popular and widely used in everything from street rods, hotrods, offroad builds and tons of ford vehicles across many years. They are very strong and dependable.
My van has been sitting for more than 20 yrs so it's no suprise the rear pinion seal is shot. Pinion seal repair \ replacement is a very common repair and not specific to ford 9 inch rear ends.
In the video I show the process to remove the old seal, install the new one and put it all back together. I even throw in a few tips and mistakes too. I hope you find this video useful and entertaining. Let me know in the comments anything I forgot to mention.

As a mechanic, I’ve never related to a video more than this one. Especially putting stuff together and realizing you have extra parts 😂
Glad you enjoyed the content!
When a hr job turns in into a 5 hr job ... I know the feeling 😂
@mikehenderson2412 I've learned to just add 2 hrs to every thing that has a blue oval 😆
Hi, thank you for this video, I lurned a lot.
But one question: how to avoid oil leaking though the spline shaft?
Thanks for watching, I'm glad you found the content useful. If it leaking around the nut on the pinion shaft your best option is some permatex. If you replace the seal and it continues to leak then the rear drive shaft yoke may need replaced. they are readily available online. Hope this helps!
Did you have to purchase a new washer as well ?
@@GARZA_760_OFF-ROAD nope, usedcthe old washer just cleaned it up with a wire wheel or wire brush! Hope this helps
