Sometimes difficult starting of a diesel engine is due to old and worn-out glow plugs like in this Nissan 1 Tonner Bakkie, enjoy the video, and please comment as I always like hearing from you, thanks for subscribing, and until next time "Safe Motoring".

Hi Gary... This videos reminds me of the glow plug job I did on my 2006 Mark 6 Fiesta with 338000km on the clock couple of weeks back.... I have never been so stress about loosening those glow plugs because as you rightly know, one is not sure if you are actually loosening them or busy turning the "heads" off... I sacrificed a whole can of WD 40.🤣Thank goodness, I managed to get them all out and replacement was easy peasy.. Just on that Ford, there is a program out there call Forscan, you most probable know it, that gives a far better indication of what faults are stored in the PCM....My OBD scanner picked up no fault code... Anyway, as always thx for sharing your knowledge with us, it is much appreciated. Be Blessed 👍👍

Yesterday did a first for me. Noisy cambelt on my Chevy. turned out a small bolt from "somewhere" went and rattled itself off, and jammed up at the base of the crank and was cutting through the belt. so new belt, new tensioner as kit, and serpentine belt and idler as well, because that was really rattly. So good I did it twice, off by one tooth first time, and no timing kit, so we struggled with 2 sockets and a lot of blue words to get the tensioner on the cambelt to loosen up, no locking pin on this Romanian kit. Serpentine belt was OEM, guess it never actually had been changed, but still in good order, but with it being 11 years old good to change, and the idler was both noisy and rattling, did a temp fix (parts not available Sunday....) with a tiny bit of white grease into the bearing, which made it a lot quieter. First time I saw a cambelt get a bolt stuck in it, little M6 one, must have been from when it was serviced 2 years ago at agents.

Good day Sir love your videos very informative. Can you perhaps do a video on how adjust the fuel and air ratio on a golf mk1 carburetor

First check base gasket, that normally is what leaks, and so long as it has not been fiddled with the fuel air mix normally is good. Otherwise you need a CO analyser in the exhaust, but a good first approximation is screw in the mixture till it is closed, then back off 1 1/2 turn IIRC, and it should start. When warm (fan has run once) you adjust up to a half turn for smoothest idle, adjusting the idle stop to keep it at 800RPM. If original Kehein carb you will probably find the diaphragms are leaky, and need to be changed, and are agents only. Last time they had entire carburettor, already set up close to perfect, as complete unit, just undo 4 bolts, and put new, or go to Goldwagen and get the complete aftermarket one, which will work well enough, and is a lot cheaper.

What problem are you referring to be more specific.

Would it only be glow plugs for the starting problem or could there be something else wrong

Air in the diesel system and a malfunctioning immobilizer system are known to cause hard starting on these Bakkies too.

If I read mileage correctly those glow plugs should be changed with half the mileage one it. Its how people ruin motor vehicles without maintenance on time & and then blame the vehicle for being subpar.

Yes but with modern diesels they often will start first crank even without glow plugs, at least till the compression rings are well worn and the blow by is enough to not get it to start cold.

I agree this is a building contractor's vehicle, so care is tossed aside, this very bakkie received its 1st oil change at 100,000 kilometers, which says a lot for the Nissan brand

@@vehiclemaintenanceandrepai3790 Says more for how good the modern oils are than the vehicle manufacturer. If assembled in SA then that oil would have been made in Secunda by Sasol, but I bet the oil came out looking more like grease than oil. Hope you told them they need to change the oil more regular than that. That long without oil change the oil rings must be stuck by now, and either you use a cleaner in the oil, and then flush it, or your Spanjaard oil treatment is really good, and got most of the gunk off when you first used it.
Had the same with a Toyota Corolla, first oil change was at 60 000km, with the oil looking like diesel oil, and the new oil was black when it came back from the dealer, just from the residual oil and sludge.
